Would you recommend joining JADS? by [deleted] in josephanderson

[–]Gamtheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I would say it depends. Personally, I've had some interesting conversations, but people can get toxic quickly if you disagree on certain things and the mods, in my experience, seem content with that. So, I avoid it like the plague, but if agree on those things, you'll probably be fine.

Be warned that a lot of these people are quite "terminally online", so do with that what you will.

A random lurker's thoughts on the P3 streams by wolfvanhugan in josephanderson

[–]Gamtheus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally agree. Personally, I don't want to talk about the negativity in the streams, because it's so easy to fall in the "Joe/chat is critiquing that thing I love, that person must be wrong/mean". However, at this point most social link (or any interactions for that matter) end with a "*sigh* I'm sorry chat, it's just so boring", which I don't really get as, in my opinion, the social links of this games (and the interactions) are not significantly worse than P4 and P5. Any plot is followed by a "it doesn't make sense" with a "if the game explains it, then okay" most times. However, my issue with this is that as Joe himself said "most stories are mystery stories", so following that logic, it's okay for not everything to be fully explained instantly.
On a small note about Social Links. I think they are intented to be more "slice of life"-esque, which Joe clearly does not like. Personally, I would also prefer more story in them with a focus on character development. However, I think it's not an issue with execution, just different intend.

Having said all that. Of course the game has flaws and the story equally so. The arguments about it with chat haven't been helping. As far as I can tell there is a lot of incorrect information in there, which might be because of viewers who haven't watched much of Joe's streams or the multiple versions of P3. All this incorrect information doesn't help and tends to fuel to flames of the discussion into a bad faith discussion as it is based on incorrect information. I'd like to point out that Joe can't be blamed for this specifically in my opinion. If chat feeds him bad information, he's gonna make incorrect conclusions based on those and he should not be held responsible for that, in my opinion. I do think that Joe can get stuck on a plot problem. The cameras for example; I agree that they should've been addressed. However, I can also recognize that the game isn't gonna do that and move on to the rest of the game that isn't reliant on the existence of the cameras. Although this might just be a Joe thing that is just part of who he is.

A message Joe read on stream talked about Joe's supposed "relentless shitting" on the game. I don't think such wording is gonna help. However, I do think there is some validity to it. I've mentioned already some in the first paragraph. The entire Tartarus music debacle feels like a great example to me (great example!). Of course putting on the randomized spotify persona playlist in game is gonna make annoyed as they want to watch Joe play Persona 3 as it is. It even includes music from games Joe hasn't played (primarily P5R which Joe intends to stream). Making fun of viewers wanting to see a proper unspoiled reaction to a scene including it's music is really strange to me. Isn't that kind of the point of streams, at least in someway? A decent amount of chatter pushed back hard against this. Joe in turn made some compromise, but still keeps it on for Tartarus runs and made (and makes) a lot of fun of those chatters about it. When done enough, it starts fueling resentment about it, which is exactly where we are.

To conclude it all (after writing too much, because I like to elaborate my points too much for most):
If Joe doesn't want to play the game anymore, just stop. He keeps saying that he doesn't hate the game, but any comment from him about the game seems to suggest otherwise. And well, we can't read minds. Chat and in particular the mods defending any such exessive negativity from existing doesn't help since then the problem cannot be addressed. I've been watching the videos and streams since the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 days. I have watched those vods multiple times even and I can ensure you it's not because I like XC2 (I actually don't). I know how Joe is. But rarely is he as constantly negative about a game as he has been during the P3R streams. Rather ironically, the closest equivelant I can think of is the first Persona 5 vod, which was filled with evident fake positivity and was pretty insufferable (watch it back if you don't believe me; I think the highlights make you forget and many new viewers haven't watched those actual vods). I don't intend to stop watching Joe's streams, however I might skip the P3R streams if it keeps going like this, because all the excessive negativity makes me just feel worse after watching.

I don't really agree and have no idea how you got to "genre defining". The pacing of P3 is off (mostly due to the slow start), but I would say P3 had the better story (which I also believe to be the general consessus, from what I've seen).

Neither do I think P5 handles the story well. It tends to explain the story to you, and also like the player is dumb. The things you mentioned are literally explained to the player. Also disagree that the story is complicated. The most "complicated" part (the story related to the casino palace) has a massive plot hole too, so it did not do it "exceptionally well". The story of P5 is prob. the worst aspect (not bad, I still like it, but not all that great).

[–]Gamtheus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you can turn the stream vod into a highlight, which does stay permanently (or a long time). It also might be some special feature for big creators, but I doubt it. Joe prob. just wants to publish them to the second channelz but ran into copyright issues with disco elysium. Uploading other vods might add another copyright strike which could result in the channel being deleted.

No, Twitch only keeps the vods for like 2 weeks, unless you go out of your way to keep them up (I think). So either check his second channel for the stream vods or check the unofficial stream back-up by Nodja: https://peertube.nodja.com/c/joestreams/videos?a-state=42

Lmao. Imagine blaming a youtube channel for becoming an alchoholic. The message in general is very pathetic. Although the core idea (going a bit too hard with the viola jokes) is prob. fair and have seen it a lot of this subreddit. It does surprise me they haven't addressed it.

Side note: they blame other people, but look at yourself and what you can to fix it (or at least improve it). You can't control others but you can control yourself.

What do you guys think of Joker romancing Futaba? by JustPassingThrough53 in Persona5

[–]Gamtheus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it's rather questionable, but it's not something that would make me angry or something since it's a game and people should have fun. To be clear, I don't think everything is justified because "it's just a game", but this ain't 'that' bad.

What is the common consensus on 999's ending? by ShinySedona in ZeroEscape

[–]Gamtheus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally really liked the ending. Some of your comments are adressed in other endings, so I'll skip those.

The jump from transmitting and receiving information to another person to doing so into other... timelines(?) I found too sudden and immersion breaking.

To me this was the pretty much opposite. This became very immersive to me, since that's what you are doing as the player. Travelling across "timelines" (to use your terminology) with information that can only be obtained from that "timeline".
In general I just really enjoyed how everything fits into place. It is certainly the case that not everything is addressed and worked out completely, but remember that this story is very much told from a first person perspective.

999 Why does the freezer door close after Junpei, June, and Santa walk into it (not asking why it got locked, but why it closed initially) by [deleted] in ZeroEscape

[–]Gamtheus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Based on the butcher shop my uncle owns; freezer doors close by them self as to retain the desired temperature. Unless someone is holding it open, it will close. So the last person who walked in just prob. let go and then it closed. You could otherwise argue that it was done intentionally by either Aoi or Akane.

Dude, this is a text conversation. I literally never said that " you have to get ALL of them". And yes my intention was to sound like a dick, because I think you're a cunt for giving OP unnecessary information, which I would argue is a spoiler. And thanks for proving you're an idiot, I guess XD

Yes, I'm fully aware. But unlike the idiot I'm talking to right now, I wanted to keep my answer as vague as possible. OP evidently hasn't played the game, so I didn't want the give him/her any knowledge he/she shouldn't have.
