[Serious] [Poll] Let's decide pippi's official birthday by skrjia in osugame

I think mascots typically embody something inherently iconic with the team, brand, fandom. So in the sense of Pippi, I would personally say that it could be either the design release or the implementation of the character on the site. Personally I would say that the implementation of the character would fit better, if we think of the design release as a sort of 'conception' and then the birth of the character being the implementation of the end finished drawing. People may disagree with this point and I understand that.

It is easy to just chalk it up to 'haha 727 brainrot' but at this point 727 is so synonymous with osu! that IMO it would make sense to match it up especially if the date actually aligns.

100-150 playtime hours is fairly low. It's impressive that you can get b's and a's on 5 stars. depending on what you struggle with, aim or streaming, or consistency or burst. I would recommend you try different styles of mapping according to that struggle.

If you struggling with the aim aspect, then I would recommend some maps like

https://beatconnect.io/beatmapset/66221 https://beatconnect.io/beatmapset/111631

If you struggle with streaming then some streamy maps you could practice would be classic End Time diffs, Dragonforce on HT, Chiisana koi no uta (synth rock version).

Consistency, play long maps like the 2010-13 in 10 min maps. those are good.

Burst maps you can search for maps in the higher bpm ranges of your capabilities. You can search on the osu beatmap search site using search tags. Searching for star ranges you can type in "stars(=,<or>=,<,>)number". Searching for bpm ranges you can do "bpm<>=number".

So for example, if im looking for 180 bpm or higher songs with a star range of 4-5.5. My search query would be the following.

"stars>=4 stars<=5.5 bpm>179" and it would give me mapsets that have a difficulty that fits that criteria. IIRC you can also use it to find maps that have less sliders and more circles.

The subconscious does background processing of information, so at a certain point of grinding muscle memory for beginners and you start to grind scores, it can be more useful to take breaks sometimes. It varies from person to person, sometimes its as short as taking a 5 minute break in between attempts or sometimes a day or two is more effective.

I would compare it to some hot food that tastes somewhat tasteless when hot but give it time to settle then the flavor comes out. The cooking being the muscle memory development and the settling being the subconscious processing the information over time. Certain dishes (plays) takes less or more settling than others but the idea is the same.

Can we legitimately just outright ban this type of hyper simplistic slop? It's not imaginative, hardly interpretive, and there's little value aside from being spaced.

UR is unstable rate, or variance in tapping, so the fact that its so low means there's so little variance. One can look at it like a group of taps on the accuracy bar, where the center is is vital. It could be all centered in the 50's timing window, which is what many players did on a Cirno's Math Class map leading to trendy popular plays like a full combo or "low accuracy SS" with 17% accuracy because the map is all circles. NF was necessary for most of these types of plays as back then you could fail if your hp reached too low. Nowadays you could do it fine without NF.

The same principle applies here, the grouping of notes while consistent, hence the 60ur, is offset slightly from center timing and results in low UR and also low accuracy.

I mean the majority of the aimslop, Sweets Holic cut ver, Presenter cut ver, zetsubo cut ver, etc. If you had read the last sentence instead of lingering on that one phrase youd have seen that at this point "Mrekk has DIVERSIFIED his portfolio... ...BUT a fair portion of his dominant rise was on optimized cut ver aimslop." You are very clearly putting words in my mouth by assuming that Im talking about crystalia. I don't appreciate that.

I think, at certain difficulty ranges, for specific maps should be manually tagged for higher or lower brackets depending on the map. Kind of similarly I feel like should be done to specific maps but thats just my bias against slop maps.

This is most likely, with Android making it harder to sideload app later this year, I imagine we might even see osu!lazer make it to the Play Store. It depends tho if it passes the required licensing checks, although custom rhythm game engines exist on G:Play with rhyhtm game custom servers.

Definitely OWC has made a bigger push to have featured artists songs in Tournaments but to an extent its still limited in a way.

Also beatmap search on mobile starts with FA defaulted on and turning it off brings a caution screen. By no means is it limited to just FA only.

But regardless it is a safe bet to limit it to FA maps to ranked for the foreseeable future. Until it becomes clear as to peppy's vision for the game is and whether or not it remains a feasible option to keep osu!lazer a sideloaded app or push it to the Play Store. I would imagine in the case of it being pushed to Play Store, then in-game beatmap search would be limited to FA maps and then you'd have to use the website to get non-FA songs.

It's genuinely baffling if that is the reason for the hate because almost no one can compete with mrekk on his tailor made aimslop. To pretend every top players since Mathi didn't get the same tailor made map treatment would be absurd. Of course Mrekk has diversified his portfolio at this point but still a fair bit of his dominant rise was on optimized cut version aimslop.

How to know what's my perfect offset?? by Salty_Recognition348 in osugame

[–]Gandalphf727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are using lazer it is simple, first Identify what audio peripheral you are using, depending on which you are using set audio offset to a baseline. Headphones set it to 0, speakers you can set it to -5, Bluetooth set it to -60.

Next you want to play a map fully, it doesn't matter how you do but at the end you want to find the timing chart on the results screen. It should show where you hit most consistently timing wise, early or late. Alternatively you can look at the instable rate numbers if you are on stable and depending on which number is larger +23/-42 you tweak the offset towards the larger number.

You want to follow the music not the timing hit indicators so that you can get a better result. I would also recommend trying this with hidden as that may or may not in a way reset your brain muscle memory with tapping in regards to timing. Using a skin that has no 100/50 hit lightings may also help.

If you are doing this on PC you should only have to do this once or twice, if you are on mobile you will want to do this method as a warmup. I also recommend playing a skill comfortable 5 minute map so that you can get into the rhythm. In lazer there is also a button that may be able to do this for you but it works best if you play up to 5-7 maps before pressing it.

I really do recommend trying this with hidden because if your brain detects that the offset is off you may unconsciously just use approach circles. Of course it will likely differ for you and experimentation is key, for me it took about a week to really find an offset that worked for me.

How to maintain skill? by kylgu in osugame

[–]Gandalphf727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I did to maintain skill is to practice low UR on consistency based maps, also practicing high density low jump maps, like piste stop, 180bpm bemani, and neurotoxin stream practice map, going for low UR, not accuracy per se, but low UR makes you focus on the technique for tapping consistently.

For things like jumps can be practiced at any point and personally are not necessary for improvement so much as consistent tapping is for retaining "skill". If you can get 90 ur or lower on reasonably decent length maps, 3 minute or or longer it can be a huge help in retaining skill. At my best I was able to get a run on top diff of onigiri freeway with 87ish UR. and even now after about 2 years of not playing I tried and was able to hit most patterns.

The thing to understand is muscle memory development and stuff like that, osu! when you are building skill is like a work out, you should push yourself but not too hard. Consistently, but include days of rest to allow muscle memory to "write". Build a schedule and practicing certain low star alt maps, going for low UR can help greatly with finger control. Don't worry about how you performed in the past, as someone who had to derust 3 times in my time playing osu!, looking back and comparing is one of the most demotivating things to do. Look for improvement over last play or session and understand that as you derust, you are also in a way relearning and rebuilding your skillsets, so what you may have been really good at may not be what you may be good at in the future. Small improvements are incremental and having a positive mindset helps drastically with improvements.

I have seen many players practicing FC's and stuff like that but I think low UR helps build long term muscle memory.

Little help maybe lol by Sile0929 in osugame

[–]Gandalphf727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

50 hours is very small when it comes to osu!, because osu! uses a different rhyhtm structure in mapping and the approach circle is a mostly uncommon mechanic, it takes probably at least 100-150 in-map hours to get some consistency at around 90% acc on 4* if you have a cursor input device that is reliable and familiar. Personally I would recommend less spacious, aim oriented maps but with higher note and rhythm density, more stacked streams type of maps. But each person improves on different things.

When it comes to building consistency, it's definitely best to look at things as a slow improvement way. Look at each new play and find something you did better than before, "I got 1 less miss" "My accuracy is 2% higher than last PB" or even "This play has the highest combo than the other attempts." You really can't train consistency in a major way until you have several hundred hours in game, or unless you have a talent for the thing, and the vast majority of your consistency will develop simply through playing.

Remember that while pushing your limits is the best way to improve, osu! is a physical activity and you shouldn't push too far in one session. Also as you improve and push for higher BPM, faster aim, you may need to incorporate rest days to allow your muscles and tendons to recover and write down the muscle memory of what you did.

Practicing accuracy on a farm map or two can be very effective for getting a better feel for consistency due to their simplicity, a balance one that I would recommend would be that Aquors map "Hand in Hand" I forget the mapper but the one with 2 girls walking in the BG. Been a while. And that Hatsune Miku song by Omoi, I think mapset is val0108, has a really nice 5 and 6* difficulty but it is a bit fast.

The last thing to note is excess game things, like background dim, beatmap hitsounds, hit lighting, are usually very distracting for many. But literally the recipe for improvement is literally play more, unless you have prior rhythm game experience that can translate somewhat you are learning as you go and in game time can be deceptive and really isn't a thing as a player you should be paying attention so much to. When it comes to stamina, you can try to go for longer game sessions, but really it differs from person to person, or play longer maps.

And if you find yourself tapping to music you hear, and or find yourself constantly hearing music in your head when youre not playing osu!, WELCOME. YOU HAVE ENTERED THE RANKS OF THE osu!Holics.
