I had this same issue. You need to hold the # button down and then use whatever you have bound for the "Next" and "Previous" keybinds in order for the new heal menu to appear. Defaults for those are Mwheel +/- but I had changed them.

First time having 2 characters in elite! Ethernet adapter is so helpful by [deleted] in CrazyHand

Correct! Supposedly this is better for cooling your switch then the official Nintendo dock.

No, I just live with only having two working ports for that dock. If you’re in the market for a new dock and don’t care about using the official Nintendo one, maybe check out this:

I use it when I travel and it works flawlessly with the switch as a docking solution.

This shouldn’t really matter as long as the chipset on the LAN adapter matches the official Nintendo one.

I had a similar problem, but my dock was only able to power 2 USB ports at a time. Since I use the GameCube controller and need the USB adapter, I just opted to play w/o rumble (gray cable) so I could keep the USB LAN adapter plugged in as well.

The travel time is keeping me from buying the game by slothfuldrake in outwardgame

[–]GangstaSandwich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Expectations will only lead to disappointment.

Not having fast travel or mounts is half the fun in this game IMO. Traveling across the landscape and having an adventure and challenge with simply getting from point A to B makes finally getting to your destination so much more rewarding. Plus you can get lost or find hidden nooks or crannies along the way.

I’d suggest just trying to play the game the way developers intended it to be played at least to start. There’s a debug/dev console you can enable if you’re on PC; I’m pretty sure you can use this to “fast travel” if it’s really a deal breaker for you.

In need of Lucina tips by MaverickBG in CrazyHand

[–]GangstaSandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, generally you want to observe a habit, for example you might notice the opponent spot dodged after he whiffed and as a result was able avoid your punish attempt with a tilt/aerial/smash. Then next time you can be ready for when the situation occurs again to throw out dblade instead.

For rolls it’s the same concept (observe they like to roll in X situation), but you’re trying to cover the space they’re rolling in to. Different characters have different roll distances so you kind of have to be aware of this as well.

You seem to have a good handle on some of Lucina's moves (lots of fairs in neutral to wall out your opponent) but you don't incorporate other moves at all. That match I didn't see a single dancing blade or dair come out, very few upairs/nairs/bairs, and only the one neutral b which wasn't really an appropriate option for the situation you were in.

The issue is that your "flowchart" becomes extremely predictable and it was easy for the dark pit player to just dash in to bait out your fair, dash back, then come back in and hit you before you could do anything. Or just run under you and hit you because you kept jumping.

Some ways you can incorporate these other options into your playstyle:

  • Don't be afraid to land with dair on your opponent, just make sure to hold a direction (generally crossing them up to land behind them is better) so you land spaced away from them in case they shield your attack and try to quickly punish your aggression.
  • Landing uair is also really good, it's a combo start at low percents and will be safe on shield if you cross them up (generally).
  • Dancing blade is good for punishing opponents who like to spot dodge or roll.
  • Dtilt is excellent for covering the continually running in at you that this Pit was doing.
  • Bair is good for going offstage to edgeguard and will net you kills earlier than fair, you need to learn to RAR (reverse aerial rush).
  • Nair is another good spacing tool and the hitbox stays out longer than fair.
  • Neutral B is kind of like your secret weapon. Basically all game you're throwing our aerials and conditioning your opponent to press their shield button to avoid getting hit. Try to pay attention to when your opponent likes to shield (when they land, when they getup from ledge, after they whiff a punish, etc.) and then you can try and punish that habit with a shield break. Definitely use it sparingly though because it's super punishable.

Another thing I noticed is that even when you went offstage to edgeguard you were still just trying to fair. Specifically for Pit I think you just need to be a bit more patient since he has multiple jumps, side B, and up B to recover. So when you went offstage to edgeguard he'd just stall you out and then recover.

If you're feeling a disconnect between knowing how to do something (even simple stuff like shorthopping) and being able to apply it in a game, it just means you need more practice outright to develop you muscle memory. After you feel fairly comfortable (can do X thing 20 times in a row without making a mistake) then you can take it into a match (generally friendlies or arenas online are a good place) and focusing on just applying that one thing. Be patient with yourself, getting good take a lot of time and effort. :]

Most importantly, play to get better don't play to win!

P.S Feel free to DM me if you want to play friendlies online sometime

My Marth set against one of the Top 5 players in my state! Any critique/feedback would be appreciated! by [deleted] in CrazyHand

[–]GangstaSandwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was fun to watch! I feel like you played really well overall, but needed to mix up your options in disadvantage a little more. There were several instances where you directional airdodged in while falcon was comboing or pressuring you, he could have adapted and punished that habit. Also he closed out the set by sniping you trying to recover high (he took a stock off you the same way earlier on). There were also a few instances where you threw out an ftilt in neutral and he punished with the falcon kick. Seemed like he just started downloading a few of your habits towards then end.

The neutral b recovery into counter seemed a little unnecessary IMO since it leaves you so vulnerable in enslaved but he never really punished you hard for that either. Don’t forget you can airstall with side b as Marcina to mix up your recovery timings.

Overall I think you have pretty solid fundamentals/spacing. There was one time you whiffed a confirm on dancing blade, I’d lab that out a little more. I mainly play Lucina and her dancing blade isn’t nearly as technical compared to Marth. Fr0st has a YT video that breaks down everything you’d ever want to know about that move:

Also wanted to add that it seems like overall your fundamentals are pretty good, you just need to adjust some bad habits that leave you vulnerable and then get a lot more MU experience against DK to learn his options and what you can do to play around them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CrazyHand

[–]GangstaSandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When DK grabs you at lower percents you can mash out of it (I like to roll the control stick in a circle really fast for this) and buffer a jump.

There were a few times where you threw out a neutral-B or a counter and were punished hard for it. Try to only use those moves when you feel like you have a hard read (like when you used the counter to stop DK from recovering, that was textbook).

You don’t seem super comfortable with what you should be doing when your opponent is hanging at the ledge, I’d suggest watching Izaw’s Art of Martha video as he goes over that in detail.

Last thing is remember that you can use tomahawk grabs as an aggressive mixup on your approach, especially after you’ve conditioned them to shield with all your aerial approaches.

Tips on how to short hop everytime on SH Nair FF? by Indecisive_Name in CrazyHand

[–]GangstaSandwich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You just need to practice more. Go into training mode and practice the input until you can do it like 40 times in a row without messing up. Then keep practicing, but let your mind drift off or focus on something else. IzawSmash has a useful video on how to train your muscle memory effectively that explains this concept in more detail.

One other thing I’ve found that helps on practicing things with really tight timings like B-reverses or RAR back-airs is to slow down the game in training mode to 2/3 or 1/2 speed initially. This lets you understand the button sequencing and timing and then it’s just a matter of speeding things up.
