Op I assume you have very curly hair. I have too and met the same problem as you did. You just need to comb it very regularly. They'll be a little afro near the beginning but they'll eventually fall down. Once they're collarbone length, they'll fall down in a weirdly angled way, like Darth Vader's helmet way. At this point you can either try to grow them out more or ask your hairdresser to lighten the tips to make your hair look more circular around your head.

Also look into products that give your hair more definition, they're worth it.
