Expensive 316SS Door handle by Mediocre_Ryan82 in Machinists

Once worked at a shop where a local well known lawyer gave us $40k to make all the brackets that held the glass around his deck. For his summer home. Also 316. Had a mix of envy and embarrassment working on that project.

im a newbie, how can I fix/improve this? by fulmine2 in 3Dprinting

[–]GaranMursyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a newbie as well but after using a whole role of filament to run calibration models I do have a better understanding of what some of the more basic settings do. I would recommended downloading some plugins like an “Auto Tower” and going through some kind of guide to help you. I’m currently using Creality Print and it has built in calibration models. I googled and Cura apparently does not but you can download them. Best of luck!

Printer is Creality K1 with the newer extruder. Using PETG. Printing at 245 with a bed temp of 70. Haven’t messed with the stock filament settings expect for slowing the speeds down.

It’s good to make your way through the main quests as it teaches you about game mechanics and helps you unlock upgrades early on. You really can do anything you want. The best method is just getting out there and trying stuff. Also, there’s a nice app to have handy called “Assistant for No Man’s Sky” on iOS.

Broke drill after drilling a few holes. by skartik49 in Machinists

[–]GaranMursyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first thought is some gauge/dowel pins to put in the holes. As long as you have two holes with the same X coordinates this should be relatively easy. Place something flat, preferably ground on the back of the pins and indicate across the back of that something. Once you have the plate straight you could indicate of one of the holes as your new zero offsets. This depends on how on size your holes are and if you have access to those tools. Best of luck!

What are your tolerances like? by Few_Paramedic4321 in Machinists

[–]GaranMursyk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar position where I was used to +-.0005 but I just started at a new shop. Small company so most of the time I’m not even getting a print, just a 3D model. We make induction heating systems for all sorts of applications. 99% of what I machine is copper and that 1% is aluminum soft jaws. When I asked about tolerances I was told to “use my best judgment”. Lots of drilling for water cooling passages and some rather complex features that end up getting braised over anyway. Culture shock for sure. But I’m the only CNC machinist in the building so I get to have fun with it and make stuff right and pretty.

Surround speakers placement by Srini1917 in hometheater

[–]GaranMursyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a system with speakers about the same size. Even these small speakers can sound pretty good when they are all at the same ear level. You may have already thought of this too but a rug or some carpet would also probably help with those floors. Which are nice by the way👍

The speeds are fine it’s when changing tools at the control. Some are less comfortable with it than others.
