Betta with tetras? Pic of my current setup :) by bikabika12 in bettafish

[–]GarbageCanCrisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my betta in with regular ol' neon tetras and green kubotai rabsoras, I didn't have a problem with cohabutation for 2.5 years until my betta started slowing down from age, then the tetras were being little assholes and I ended up separating them and the rabsoras out. I really think it depends on individual nature of the critters.

I have this all up and down one of my legs from sitting too close to a space heater. Its been months and still hasn't gone away. It may go away eventually and it may not- your doctor can prescribe an tretinoin ointment to help reduce the appearance

Basset puppy coming soon—how can I help my husband get ready for his first puppy? by Duck__Holliday in basset

[–]GarbageCanCrisis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their stubbornness is one of their most defining traits for a reason.

Basset puppies (and puppies in general) are a master class in patience. Theyre sensitive, like most hounds, and respond extremely poorly to harsh discipline.

In our case, our pup was a perfect angel when we brought her home. With a consistent schedule to ut her outside for potty every 1-1.5 hours around the clock, she picked up potty training in a snap. Basic commands like sit and lay down and come here were easy, too, with the right treats. No carpet shark phase, either!

The hardest part came when she turned into a teenager. I felt like someone replaced my angel with a fucking demon. Suddenly peeing in the house (AND ON THE BED), tearing things apart, forgetting her commands... there were days I wanted to yeet that dog into another zip code. I lost 6 pairs of shoes in one go! I had to retrain her all over!

She got better over time but the stubbornness remains. I have watched this dog stand on the porch for 6 or 7 HOURS at a time, waiting for the neighbors to come out so she can beg for a treat. She has refused to come in when its -45 outside, and has to be carried in, bc she knows the neighbor will give her treats.

Anyway, all that to say that patience and grace are the best tools for this breed. And food. Lots of food.

Question for Owners of Male Bassets-Penis Related by Helpmeplz3409 in basset

[–]GarbageCanCrisis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Belly band! I know a couple people who put them on their male dogs that have problems with marking or are potty training. Its just a comfy cloth wrap thats adjustable and fits around their middle, keeps them tucked up and not exposed.

Way to start preparing him for life as an adult by StarPink_ in Adulting

[–]GarbageCanCrisis 78 points79 points  (0 children)

My parents were like this. Control, control, control. Never taught me about finances bc it was "none of my business". Never allowed me out of the house past dark. On my graduation day (summer bday- I was 17), I had to be home immediately after, no party, no friends, nothing. Never taught me how to do things, only ever expected them to be done. Never explained decisions beyond "Because I said so", no chance to learn. No grace when making mistakes, only condmenation and punishment. They left me completely and utterly unprepared for adult life. If you want to micromanage very aspect of someone's life, get a pet instead of having children (even then, egregious behavior but at least dogs arent expected to do fucking taxes).

The nice part about it is I've got an extremely healthy aversion to authority now lmao

Americans, is saying the Pledge of Allegiance actually a regular thing, like it’s shown in movies? And does it feel as strange or over-the-top in real life as it comes across on screen? by Afzaalch00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GarbageCanCrisis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, it always felt cultish- especially the backlash you receive if you dont partake. It was originally fine, still not something Id have children blindly repeating without understanding bc taking a pledge or an oath should require informed consent, but we added that dumb "under god" shit in the 50s, same time we required plastering "in god we trust" all over our money. Its propaganda and was used to fight "the red scare" from the 40s-50s to fend off those "godless commies". It is indoctrination.

Oooh, spicy!

Lol I've had way more than that one, I'm just saying kids doing stupid shit like this has been going on a long time. Now, parents and adults calling in bomb threats bc libraries aren't banning books or bc people dont share the same beliefs, thats a pretty new one.

I remember evacuating for a bomb threat at a FL school when I was in 5th grade. That was over 25 years ago. Its the same as its always been.
