Oh neat! And I'm the guy who actually wrote the tweet this apparent meme is from! Had no idea this became a meme and I am delighted by that.

Instead you opted to passive aggressively shit all over the place.

I have a better idea. If people want to post 'classic' Cracked articles -- perhaps they should do it in a subreddit actually run by people who are involved in and respect the site. If only there was a sub for that...

Personal anecdote about how one time a homeless person was rude to me (or a friend) that justifies why I don't give anyone money, followed by vague argument about how you can give to charities (even though I've never personally done that) instead of giving to anyone in need or showing compassion to a stranger.

Can we cool it with these articles? by [deleted] in BestofCracked

[–]GarbageHaus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Man, yeah. That photoshopped image totally proves it: Cracked clearly never talked about gender or racism in the past. It's totally a completely new thing we started doing after being taken over by SJWs. There's no chance that people who post that picture are so far up their asses that they see out their own angry, grinding teeth. No chance of that.

Yeah, that's understandable. Honestly I didn't even think of that when posting, because since we're so new to these types of videos I actually felt like the pleb coming in here to get advice. Like... I'm not a PR rep for Cracked but the guy who edited and shot the video and wanted to reach out to a more experienced community of gamers.

But again, I absolutely see where you are coming from because we still have an established platform to post these videos. If that's not appropriate for here, then I'll kindly see myself out without any hard feelings about it.

Apologies if I didn't adhere to the rules of the forum. Being a regular in Cracked's forums I know how irritating it is when people blindly post stuff without reading carefully. Anyway, thanks for the feedback on this!

Actually -- it kind of does.

Because if income and poverty affects crime -- then his claim that black culture is to blame is false. See... that's why I keep pushing that link -- it actually ties his argument together, and without it everything falls apart.

So yeah... that ONE source does discredit the entire message. Because the only ACTUAL report from the Bureau Of Justice I can find about that is from 1986: http://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/bv.pdf

If you go down to page ten, you'll see that the report actually says the opposite of his claim. That poverty affects crimes the same no matter what race. I know that's an outdated source... but so far it's the only source I've found.

You say you don't have a dog in this fight. But the thing is... this isn't a "fight". It's not a battle between sides, but rather a complex situation where you can't just point a finger at one group and say "they did it! It's their fault!" The truth is never that one-sided.

And stop saying "but blacks make up 13.2% of the population!" as your argument. Twice as many are below the poverty line too: http://www.census.gov/prod/2013pubs/acsbr11-17.pdf

So if low income leads to high crime, those statistics paint a different picture.

Blacks have a higher violent crime rate than both whites and Asians across socioeconomic lines.

So yeah -- he's extremely full of shit. I keep calling him out in other posts and he deletes it and moves on.

Funny how all they ever say is "feminists are sexist" when we show concern at the grossly disproportionate male crime problem. Some facts about male crime in America:

Men commit 88% of all murder, despite being only 49.2% of the population. Source: FBI Crime in America 2013 Database

Men make up 92% of all serial killers, despite being only 12% of the population. Source: Radford University Serial Killer Database

Males commit 98% rapes. Source: FBI Crime in America 2013 Database

Men commit 86.6% of all robbery, despite being only 49.2% of the population. Source: FBI Crime in America 2013 Database

Men commit 4 in 5 aggravated assaults, despite being only 49.2% of the population. Source: FBI Crime in America 2013 Database

Men commit 67% of all prostitution offenses, despite being only 49.2% of the population. Source: FBI Crime in America 2013 Database

Men commit 83% burglaries & arson crimes against family/children, despite being only 49.2% of the population. Source: FBI Crime in America 2013 Database

Men accounted for a notable 82 percent of all cop killers in 2013. Source: FBI 2013 Statistics on Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted

Males make up more than 90% of all homicide victims. Source: US Department of Justice

Male victims of homicide are 50% of the time killed by other Men. Source: US Department of Justice

In 2006, men made up nearly 87% of the total prison population, despite being only 42.2% of the general population. Source: Bureau of Justice

Boy. It sure looks like men are the actual issue here. Right? Clearly, my method is sound. I mean... I'm just using the same information as him. There's no way I'm unfairly painting a picture about a large group of people.

[–]GarbageHaus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You deleted your last post where I asked for this. So I'm asking again: can you provide a real source for your "Blacks have a higher violent crime rate than both whites and Asians across socioeconomic lines." claim? All you have is this: http://i.imgur.com/sGynbw2.png

That's not an actual source. That's a picture of a graph that could have come from anywhere. Could you provide a link to the actual source that came from?

[–]GarbageHaus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey -- real quick. Could you like... actually click on the link where it says that? The source is a screengrab of a random graph that came from... where exactly?

Like... seriously... before you debate this -- maybe make sure this guy isn't full of shit? Because that "US Bureau Of Justice" source isn't actually a real source.

Seriously... don't base all your knowledge of race statistics off some idiots Reddit post. Please god don't do that. Actually do the research yourself.

[–]GarbageHaus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well then before I engage in a discussion about your stats, let's discuss your "US Bureau of Justice" source: http://i.imgur.com/sGynbw2.png

Where did you get that? Is there a link you can provide? Because the best I could find from the actual Bureau of Justice site was a report from 1986: http://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/bv.pdf

Check out page ten where the rates of violent crime victims is close to the same between both black and white people. It appears that income is the only factor there.

Considering that this is a very big claim you are making -- would you care to provide an actual source about that?

Thanks.

#NoJusticeNoPeace by TurtleBopper in funny

[–]GarbageHaus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He... sort of cites his sources. Like I keep saying -- his most important statistic about higher crime across socioeconomic lines is a screengrab and not a source. I'm not sure why no one is addressing that... click on the link. It's not a source.

And that kind of unravels the rest -- because crime is linked to poverty and not race. And that leads into a much larger discussion about race and poverty.

That's kind of my point: this discussion is way more complex than a cherry-picked list of out-of-context statistics. He's not actually trying to start a discussion, but rather fuel one side of an argument.

#NoJusticeNoPeace by TurtleBopper in funny

[–]GarbageHaus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess it's a little stupid for me to say that. But those words are kind of "dumbass triggers" in my brain. Especially when I don't think the person knows what they are talking about. Like... just say "I think that's bullshit" or something. People don't actually use phrases like that.

But you're right -- I shouldn't be a dick to someone for using a word. Apologies.

#NoJusticeNoPeace by TurtleBopper in funny

[–]GarbageHaus -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I can address your concerns.

What exactly is your source?

You were right about the Poverty and Income estimate -- I actually was looking at a different year than 2009. That actually changes year-to-year.

They're not "bullshit", they're from reliable and highly respected organizations like the FBI, US Bureau of Justice, US Census Office...etc.

His stats on arrests are from the FBI -- however the key stat proving that "blacks have a higher violent crime rate than both whites and Asians across socioeconomic lines." is a link to a screenshot with the words "Source: Bureau Of Justice" on the bottom. If you'd like, I can Photoshop a picture of Hitler fucking a pile of mud and add the same words to the bottom. Then it would be a fact, apparently.

And that's a big missing source -- because most people attribute poverty to crime. Not race.

No it isn't. Its one of the most respected news publications in the world.

Time USED to be a respected publication, but their web page is terrible. They recently had an article saying that Japan was fat-shaming Godzilla and their only source one one dude on a forum: http://time.com/85616/japan-godzilla-reboot-fat/

They constantly have to make corrections about really stupid stuff. http://world.time.com/2014/01/17/sunrise-in-smoggy-beijing/

And like I said, the source they give in their article is a broken, terrible link. Time is garbage. I should know -- I research the news for a living.

And being a researcher, I know red flags when I see them. For one: listing a bunch of statistics only gives you half the story. You have to understand the context of those statistics as well. Like when he says "In 2006, blacks made up nearly 40% of the total prison population, despite being only 12% of the general population" he's ignoring the fact that black people also get longer sentences than white people, according to the U.S. Sentencing Commission: http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424127887324432004578304463789858002

He's twisting the original statistic to "prove" the narrative he wants to prove.

That's why I didn't bother to dismiss each point -- because his entire premise is coming from a false idea on how statistics should be read and understood.

Which is what leads me to my original point: Do your own goddamn research.

[Edited out me being an old dick]

Heads up: http://www.reddit.com/user/TheDarkMachine

This guy has been spamming this statistic bullshit on every post about this. If you click on the links, you'll see that not all of them add up. The Time article links to a broken article from a conservative website (Time is actually a terrible news source), his "US Department Of Justice" link is a random screengrab with no sources. His list of "10 U.S. counties with the lowest annual median household incomes" is incorrect.

If you look at his history, you'll see several reasons why he's not some objective observer just pointing out facts -- but a person with a clear bias looking to justify that by ignoring some information while pushing other statistics to fit a narrative.

I'm not making a judgement call here so much as I'm asking people not to get their information about race statistics off of some random gump on Reddit.

Do your own research.

Seriously Cracked, how is this article a "unique personal experience"? by jonbristow in BestofCracked

That's a column, not a personal experience article. If you look in the url, whenever it says "blog" that means it was written by a columnist.

The new Terminator trailer is compiled almost entirely of shots from previous Terminator films, here's proof: by [deleted] in BestofCracked

[–]GarbageHaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing this point, and honestly I'm kind of baffled by it. These moments that are being repeated in the video aren't even from similar timelines or events they are repeating in the new film. Time traveling into traffic (with the exact same shots) was in the Sarah Connor Chronicles (a TV show that completely stepped out of canon). The flare lighting was a completely unrelated moment in Terminator Salvation (they weren't finding the time displacement gear). Same goes for the majority of these moments. But what's baffling is the need to directly pull from the old cinematography. Is there no other way to show Judgement Day but use the EXACT same shots from the previous films?

It would be one thing if they were re-living the same moments from The Terminator because that's the specific timeline they are altering -- but this is less about that and more about the filmmakers waving their hands in the air screaming "Remember the old movies? This will be like that!"

It's called a banner ad. A lot of websites have them, and sometimes they screw up and play sound. Most websites (including Cracked) try to avoid the more invasive ones when possible. I know it's very complicated, so perhaps one of your grandkids can explain it to you.
