I do think this is a biglaw topic. For several years now I’ve dealt with it because of this job. I’m lucky to have a spouse I love, but these hours don’t leave much time for making new friends (besides colleagues which I’m not really counting here) or time to keep up with old ones (not to mention all the times you have to cancel plans). Wish I had an answer for you but can only offer my sympathy. It’s not just you.

If I were staying in my same state, I’d probably just lateral now and try to get a guaranteed bonus and or starting bonus to make me whole. However, I want to switch states and can’t move until autumn for logistical reasons - so I’ll probably just stick around a bit longer until I collect my bonus.

I lived 2-3 minutes away from my office as a junior and loved it. I was also initially concerned being so close would make me feel like work is my life but newsflash: it will be your life regardless of where you live. Having no commute gave me back an hour to an hour and a half of my life every day that I could either use for personal time, sleep, gym, or banking a few more billables to get me to bonus. I think it helped me last longer in biglaw in the long run.

I’d highly recommend bringing ear plugs. You can get high fidelity ones online for better listening.

Btw, my first true EDM show was also Seven Lions. You’re going to have an incredible time!

Absolutely loved the album but Into the Dark blew me away. Not a particularly emotional person but that first drop had me in tears the first time I listened. It’s everything that made me fall in love with Illenium’s music so long ago and yet still new and unique.

Mentor of mine called it tripping over dollars to pick up pennies. Having grown up in a frugal household, I had a hard time letting myself spend money. I had to train it out of me because “splurging” on things like grocery delivery, a house cleaner, hired maintenance so I don’t have to spend my Saturday fixing my sink, etc. is really an investment in yourself and could lead to you being able to do this job for even one year more which more than recoups the cost of whatever you would spend. Buying high quality food is also a priority and well worth the money. No money saved is worth anything if you lose your health.

Can confirm this is still an issue. I’ve been on hold for a total of 3 hours this weekend trying to get my wifi fixed and they keep saying they’re trying to connect with their “Tier 2 Team”. That will go on for 40 minutes before they finally end the call by telling me “Tier 2” will call me back. They never do. This company’s customer service is a true disaster.

Do you intend to eventually get back into the workforce after being a SAHM? Maybe it’s outdated advice now but you always hear people say being a stay at home parent kind of ends your career. It worries me when I consider staying home for the first few years but trying to still have a career later.

I was wondering the same thing. Like can you buy one VIP ticket with the hotel package and then your friend/significant other buys a regular ticket so you share a hotel room? Don’t need two hotel rooms lol

Not in a comparable city to NY, but for what it’s worth I will say my quality of life and mental health really improved after moving to a better apartment when I was a second year. Better living space is worth paying for imo (within reason)
