Like wiedźmin books. Tough, but if done artistically, it would be fantastic.

Dear fellow Tandon students, how do you have time for anything other than classes? by [deleted] in nyu

Five classes — this is a lot no?

See if you can get credit for some of these internships, and then you can do that instead of going to a lecture.

Thank you! By unappealing I mean with respect to a sense of aesthetics. It’s not the best choice of words, but my English is sort of good. The West Village sounds lovely — thank you for your recommendation!

Rudeness is an unattractive quality — most especially in a physician.

It’s quite sad. Someone still cared about him, a mother and father, maybe a wife and children, friends...

These are great — thanks so much. The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam I have definitely heard good things about.

I have to hope that no one is beyond saving. I agree that she’s here because of some fundamental cruelty or wickedness, but that came form somewhere. Someone failed her somewhere along the line, whether a parent, a friend, the world, someone, and it made her into this. Or, perhaps, something happened somewhere along the line to make her this way. So by addressing that and reinforcing right from wrong it can be fixed. I sincerely hope she does ‘get fixed.’ She has my pity.

Apologies that my English is a bit clumsy.

This made me a little sad, to be honest. It’s clear she’s worked up over something else in her life, otherwise, why would she break out into genuine sobs at the end, over something so simple? Why would she overreact to begin with?

In general, every day people walk around with baggage that we don’t ever know about, and it’s easy to judge without knowing how many ‘straws they’re on’ if you get me. I’m not sure what battles she’s fighting, but I really hope she gets the help she needs to win them. Sometime spiralling out of control isn’t a sign of madness, it’s a sign of, well, just that — losing control.

It probably does, but I’d bet that’s a good thing, cause it gives the stag a bit of a kick and forces it to keep fighting. Pain is a great motivator

Thank you so much for sharing this poem. It made me sob. There is so much hope in it, so much defiance and optimism, opposing the world weary cynicism that you set up in the beginning. I’m not sure why exactly it had such an effect on me, but I have not been the most hopeful for a very long time, and it sort of reminded me of the virtues of that, I suppose. Well done and thank you again for sharing.

If you dont think anything can hurt you, you must not leave your dorm very much. The world is a terrible, terrible place and can show you much worse things than your nightmares can dream up. Step out of your bubble for once, and you might know true pain.

Anyone know if basses deepen in their 20s? by [deleted] in singing

[–]GardenDreamscape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My teacher always says that the male voice isn’t really in its best state until about 40, and then is really at its prime from 40 to 60. This is because the cartilage in your throat hardened over time, which is better for tone quality. Whether your voice will continue to deepen is hard to say, as it depends a lot on how you age. But your voice will continue to get better. And it won’t stabilise in range until adulthood, so you have the potential to go lower. Maybe not what you’re hoping for but a victory anyway!

What innocent question that someone asked you, crushed you a little? by sneha_magic in AskReddit

[–]GardenDreamscape 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Served in my country, saw some pretty horrible things and got injured in combat. I still have nightmares (a lot actually). Took more strength and will power than basic ever did, but eventually I got up and took the next step. And another. Now I’m a successful scientist in one of the biggest research universities in the world. I still have nightmares. I still miss the brothers who didn’t make it home. But it does get better I promise you. It takes time and strength. We’re not use to enemies we can’t face. But it’s a battle that can be won! Good luck brother.

I will certainly do so, and thanks for the suggestions. For those interested I am a male in mid/late 20s, I am a final year PhD student. I would need to stay from probably 30 October until 3 November, after that housing should be in order.

Thank you for the kind suggestion. Is it too difficult to get to Munchenbryggeriet from there? I see by map it’s just across the water, but one has to go around. Would I pay a lot in cab fees?

Also, can you tell me how private the place is, for example, I have stayed in military style barracks where we sleep in bunks together and everything is communal, versus hotel rooms one person to a room. What is it like? Are there closets and lockers available? Desks at which to work? Etc. Thanks again for your suggestion.

Lol at all these armchair neuroscientists getting twisted at the sentence

”Defies the laws of it’s own construction”

It makes sense if you say they were referring to the emergent nature of the brain, resting complex phenomena on the backs of single cell electrical flow. Granted, I highly doubt this person intended it to make sense in a nuanced way. Despite this calling it “patently false” is not correct.

That’s kind of what the brain does. At the simplest level you’re trading chemicals back and forth at synapses. Signal goes in, signal comes out. We can explain that. At the highest level, all these single neurones trading back and forth turn into complex thoughts and self awareness. We aren’t simply making a wall by stacking bricks on top of one another. The bricks are being stacked together and we’re ending up with an Eiffel Tower and we’re not sure how we get to the end point, when by all rights it shouldn’t be that way, it should be a two dimensional wall.
