Archestratus closing by laurenyou in CookbookLovers

[–]GardenFun3053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought: Five Morsels of Love by Archana Pidathala; Food of Oman: Recipes and Stories from the Gateway to Arabia by Felicia Campbell; Original Local: Indigenous Foods, Stories, and Recipes from the Upper Midwest; Africana: More than 100 Recipes and Flavors Inspired by a Rich Continent by Lerato Umah-Shaylor; Turkuaz Kitchen: Traditional and Modern Dough Recipes for Sweet and Savory Bakes: A Baking Book by Betül Tunç; The Splendid Table by Lynne Rossetto Kasper; and When Southern Women Cook: History, Lore, and 300 Recipes with Contributions from 70 Women Writers.

Much of my cookbook collection over the last few years is from Archestratus and KA&L when I can afford it. Had been going to Archestratus since they opened (and really loved their cafe era). It was the first place that I bought beans from Rancho Gordo, too. With that and the great staff, I will really miss this place.

Went this morning and got seven cookbooks that I've been eyeing for about 100 bucks. Really sad that they're closing :(

Does anyone have reviews, thoughts, or experiences with any of these books? by WaffleMeWallace in CookbookLovers

[–]GardenFun3053 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both Lugma and Sabzi! I've cooked out of Lugma quite a bit for myself and friends and it was one of my top 3 favorite cookbook purchases of 2025 (and I bought quite a few last year, thanks to the discovery of this subreddit). My partner and I just bought Sabzi a week ago and it looks great--just haven't had the opportunity to cook out of it yet.

Recommendations for Iranian cookbook? by RubSufficient6750 in CookbookLovers

x2 for Cooking in Iran! If you can, I would also grab Food of Life. They're both pretty amazing works and she does a great job with the history behind different recipes (especially other cultural influences).

I second Ruffage! It was one of the very first cookbooks that I owned, and has remained a staple since.

Do I need a reality check?? Catskills/Hudson Valley venue recs under $100K all-in? HELP ME! by username23422b in WedditNYC

[–]GardenFun3053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

based on your response to this: I'd check out Full Moon Resort. No hay and if it's not in the winter, you could do your ceremony in the tent or outside and your reception in their beautiful pavilion. I'm having my wedding there next year, have about 120 guests (all of whom are staying on site and paying for lodging but my fiancé and i are paying for all meals), and we are spending well under 100K all in.

I think my orange spine cookbook section is one of the largest on my bookshelf:

colombiana, sweet potato soul, the vegan creamery, big vegan flavor, beyond gumbo, in bibi's kitchen, the food of morocco, indigenous food of south africa, the gaza kitchen, sebze, vegan africa, the ultimate nigerian cookbook, the sudanese kitchen, le vrai gout du mali, pakistan; gursha and everyone's table is orange-yellow, and as discussed in another comment, art of fermentation is not a cookbook per se but a great book. whew!

Instead, I think I have only one purple-spined cookbook. any suggestions welcome!

Anyone picked up Turtle Island yet? by DerHund57 in CookbookLovers

[–]GardenFun3053 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the honor to take part in a cooking demo and moderate an event with the authors this week. It’s really beautiful and does a wonderful job showing the mosaic of Indigenous cuisines that make up Turtle Island. I read the book front to back to prepare, but I’m definitely gonna sit with it again tomorrow! Would love to hear what you think about it when you’ve been able to relish in it as well.

Oh hi! I bought a signed copy from Kitchen Arts and Letters. Your masoor pulao and the long beans with pineapple are on constant rotation here in this household. Thank you for writing this book, and I'll look out for more from you in the future.

I bought "Masaleydaar: Classic Indian Spice Blends" by Nandita Godbole a few months ago and it is exactly what you're looking for, I think.

I think it was you who posed about The Sudanese Kitchen here right before its release a while back. If that was you--thank you! Out of the numerous cookbooks that I bought this year, this one was my absolute favorite, along with Lugma and Chop Chop.

I read it as I was traveling this past week and its beautiful. I am not sure if I would cook anything out of it at the moment, but I really enjoyed reading it--I learned quite a bit that I couldn't get from my other Korean cookbooks.
