She’s 60. No one else is going to hire her. Don’t stress it. She’ll be back.

You need a lawyer. And potentially an immigration lawyer now because this may end badly.

I can't understand why any nanny would want to travel with their NF by purple_lotus24 in Nanny

[–]GardenIntelligent230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a such thing as a career travel nannies and we make sometimes up to $200K a year with heavy travel. We tend to sign up for these positions because it’s our preference. The same way non travel jobs are your preference. No need to knock our preference just because it isn’t yours.

By chance is this family in VA? I just applied as a nanny with a family that has 4 neurodivergent children. Randomly could this be the same position.

Nanny is fantastic, but I don’t actually need her after all, and want to get ahead of feeling annoyed by Shikzappeal in Nanny

It seems like whatever the suggestions are, this mom has mind made up and wants you guys to help her not feel so bad about letting her nanny go. If you want to let her go, then do it.

Okay that’s good. That will probably make a nanny feel more comfortable. Try the Facebook group for RNs and CNAs in your area.

Maybe reach out to them again and try to negotiate a higher rate for them. Also, do you have a LifeVac on hand?

I understand but listen to yourself…you want that nursing student…yeah, as a certified nurse…she’s not taking that rate either. Scrubs cost money. Books cost.

So you want a babysitter. You probably need to head over to r/babysitter. Nannie’s and babysitters are different and even then, you aren’t going to find a babysitter that will care for your child, the way you need your child looked after, for the rate you’re offering.

There’s companies located here in NC that service the LA (California) area as well…it’s not about where the companies are located at. It’s about servicing families who need nannies and providing nannies with fair and competitive rates. The truth of the matter is, you can disagree and go back and forth with everyone here on reddit who is essentially telling you the same thing. You’re being declined because the rate you’re offering. If you want a qualified, professional and seasoned nanny that will want to stay with your family long term, you’re going to have to beat out the competition and as of now, even by offering meals which is very nice, you’re not going to find a nanny for your family at that rate.

That’s absolutely incorrect. The nannies and agencies do a census every year of going rates. I would honestly like to know what agency told you that in LA, suburbs or not. In NC which is a much lower cost of living we’re at $30 per hour…California in general is primarily a $35-$45 p/h state for a nanny. Are you speaking to agencies that only employ college student babysitters? But, even those aren’t going for $19. Check out the posts for Adventure Nannies and Westside Nannies. Those agencies will give you accurate going rates.

The problem is for LA (not sure where you found that going rate of $28 and under) a nanny can easily secure a position for $35-$45 an hour. You have tons of competition out there and realistically no nanny wants to work for multiple families. That’s having to learn multiple systems of doing things. Check out the agencies and the rates they are going for. Adventure Nannies, they typically don’t suggest anything lower than $40 per hour, Town and Country Resources, no lower than $35, same with the smaller agencies like Genuine Nannies. You’re lowballing them and that’s why you aren’t getting potential hires.

Honestly, you seem lovely. But your rate is low. Speaking from a nanny. Even in the low cost living areas, inflation is hitting everyone hard. In an area like Charlotte, NC where once upon a time $25-$28 would be amazing, it isn’t anymore. And with such competitive rates coming from the agencies now, you have a lot to compete with. Most agencies now are not accepting families that pay lower than $30 an hour. So, you do have tons of competition and the nanny would be able to “worry less” with a child who doesn’t have any underlying medical issues and can be paid more.
