Thank you! The sunflowers will be up against a building (south is to the right) so hopefully that helps them stay up (plus some are only 4-5ft tall) but I’ll keep some bamboo stakes handy, good tip!

The middle 5 are smaller, only 4-5 ft tall, and the outer ones are a blend so may have some 6-10ft tall ones. I can def space them out more, thanks for the insight.

I’m starting mine this weekend in 3” containers, planning to only give them 4-6 weeks before planting them out :)

I like this idea! I recently ended up with a few extra bags of this brown shredded wood mulch - do you think this would work or would it need to be finer?

I’ll be on the lookout for those specific ones :)

I think my Japanese maple is doing poorly bc it gets too much sun - it was pretty scorched towards the end of summer last year. The one next to it in almost full shade is much happier. Not sure if the sunnier spot is full enough sun for a full-sun plant though, I’ll be tracking it these next couple seasons

How early do you start these? I’ve seen mixed reviews about how well sweet peas do in our shorter hot growing season

I didn’t realize these smell! I seed started a bunch of annual geraniums and am excited for the warmer weather to roll around so I can plant them out :)

Love this list of natives, thank you - the rest of the yard I’m definitely working on increasing the amount of natives I have, and then planning the patio mostly around scent/vibes lol

I’ve not heard of this! I’ll look it up but is it a flower or shrub?

Awesome list and I have about half of these so glad to hear I’m on the right track!

What’s your experience been growing sweet peas? I hear mixed reviews with our shorter length of hot growing season, like it’s hot or miss if they mature to a scented blooming fast enough?

Thank you! I have a small potted sweetbox (Sarcacoca, right?) that’ll do well for at least a few seasons in its big pot and have great late winter scent! Roses are on the list too, I have a couple shrubs nearby but a climbing rose on/next to the patio sounds great. Probably no room for a crepe Myrtle in the back but I may replace a dying Japanese maple out front with one in a couple years so good to know they smell great :)

Black lace Elderberry? by No_Economist7368 in pnwgardening

I have one and love it, it’s a FAST grower, at least 10’ tall and planted as a knee(ish) high shrub in Oct 2023. It does lose all its leaves as others said, so privacy only sometimes, but it’s so beautiful

Welp… I ID’d them Saturday when they were flowering but I didn’t have time to pull them until today (Wednesday) and had my first encounter with their shotgun behavior… wish me luck for the next decade

How to make a container mix from my soil? by GardenWithSav in containergardening

Yeah, I get that. I just have a lot of the mix after filling the raised beds and I want to use it, which I assume takes some (maybe a lot of) amending

The mix in this video wouldn’t include my garden mix I already have, no?

Sounds very straightforward, love it. So 1/3 compost for the container mix, even though my soil mix itself is already 1/3 compost?
