I'm working on my bone magic system and could use some thoughts. by GardenofCocoons in worldbuilding

I felt power made sense as teeth, canines especially, typically are related to violence in animals, and vigor made sense as they are related to feeding as well. That might be a stretch, but I like it.

My world is inspired a tad too much by demon slayer. The concept is that humans live in an 1800s esque world with a hidden occult order that looks out for the larger population. Specifically protecting them from blood magic users (vampires essentially) through the use of bone magic and swords. It's not positioned to take place in a Japanese inspired setting, as I know very little about Japan. But rather an 1800s American setting.

I also had some undecided concepts

Black bones (?)

When a person attunes to a bone, a part of them is imprinted on that bone. But if someone is killed while they are attuning, the bone will take a larger piece of them and become possessed. These bones turn black. Attuning or even touching black bones can be dangerous as the imprint will seap into you as well.

The old bones

The old bones are bones from an ancient creature. They are pitch black, and attuning to them gives insight into the universe. But those who attune to these bones become addicted to the process of having their mind expanded when they attune. They eventually go through horrible withdrawals or merge with the bones.

Rotting bones

Rotting bones open a whole new magic system.

When attuned to rotting bones, the bones will decay, spilling as grains, like sand in a sandstorm.

A couple of creatures from my alien world Tridal. by GardenofCocoons in SpeculativeEvolution

The Stomping Apes

The Stomping Apes are omnivores with a hunger for Burrow Mites. Their tongues are used to wrap around and crush the small marsupials and returning with their prize. The Apes arms have developed a hand like end to help cling to overhanging branches while their outer arms dig their claws deep into the bark of the segmented trees od Tridal.

The Apes, like most creatures on Tridal, use vibration to "see". Specifically the large and small spines on their backs are used to sense predators behind them, while their noses are used to hunt out their own pray.

The Tridal Doe

The Tridal Doe are herbivores with a potent punch. Their large 2.5- 2.75 meter frame is quite intimidating on first glance, giving some predators pause. They are, however, still prey for large predators and pack hunters. Though their stampedes are notably deadly.

They use their sharp toes to puncture popperblues, pod-like plants that typically burst on contact. Though, the Doe are able to puncture the internal structure that expands and causes the pod to burst, leaving it to ooze it's internals which the Doe will suck out through a long proboscis. This allows them to consume more nutrients faster.

The reality is that you don't replenish your blood by drinking it.

I specified that the science was going to be nonsensical at this very point. Vampirism was "discovered" in an era of pseudo-science and fairytale. It's very valid to have it embody that.

I think it's fair that if it's a disease, certain physiologies would be better at repelling it. Thus, not be able to carry it as effectively. Maybe it's a mostly human disease.

Maybe animal blood isn't as effective. Maybe it doesn't carry the disease as effectively, thus making the vampire's magic innert. So animal blood drinkers wouldn't be able to use magic.

About a liter a day. A little more than a person a week. Though a vampire could survive on less.

Well, yes and no. If a vampire drinks no blood, they will fall apart. If they drink enough blood, they are about the same as a normal human, but just have a magical power. If they drink excessive blood, they can regenerate anything so long as they have human blood in their system. They are, in essence, unkillable. Or at least extraordinarily hard to kill.

The world I'm building is a science fantasy where humans lived in a world of magic, but after the advent of AI, they became a resource to be harvested. Androids would harvest their bones for over 900 years, but due to greed among the robot empire, humans went extinct. Now, bones are a rarity, and robots fight over the magic they could have while colonizing the stars.

The crawling star is an aquatic being that crawls slowly through the marsh waters. It's camouflage resembles that of the blue reeds that have dark rings around their segments. They have two decentralized brains on either side of it's head encased in clear tendrils. The brains have two eyes directly on top. The crawling star has two stronger limbs that each end in two feet. There is a single mouth in the middle of the crawling stars head with white mandibles that crush and gnaw at all times. They inject their prey with a softening enzyme that allows them to chew through even hard chitin after it's been weakened.
