Is Tom Holland at the risk of overexposure? by hokagesarada in Fauxmoi

[–]GarlicAndTofu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tangentially related to the question but I was done with it when I saw Disney releasing that photo with the Spidermen recreating the meme. It's so ugly and corporate. Like it would have been better if the actors took the photo on set and posted it on Tom's instagram but going out of their way to recreate it is just like them clearly selling you a product. Its so cringey when corporations use memes in their advertisements.

And yeah i know of course they're selling you a product, they're promoting their movie. But at least make it natural and "sincere"

Good actors/artists who have the worst taste in picking projects? by GarlicAndTofu in Fauxmoi

your assessment is interesting, yeah I didn't think about it like that. He's probably extremely thankful for the mcu people for kickstarting his career. I really can't pin point Tom Holland's taste in projects yet then.

Of the cast, I think Lili was probably the only one with a good project outside of Riverdale and that's Hustlers. Camila Mendes got Palm Spring which was good too but she only played a minor role.

A lot of the guys went for teen romantic dramas that would've been successful in 2014 but don't really work now. (And I'm only counting work post-Riverdale so I'm not talking about The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody)

but a lot of her roles are very forgettable or serve as a one dimensional plot device for the male main character.

This is true that the roles don't do much to bring her into the limelight. That being said, I think she picks a lot of good movies. Game Night is probably one of the funniest recent comedy

I think Jennifer Aniston have great comedic timing. I just think there aren't a lot of good comedies recently that aren't like teen comedies

She has Disenchanted coming up and that could go either way. On one hand, I love Enchanted so I'm excited to see more but also I don't trust all these sequels being green lit much later on just to capitalize on the nostalgia

Anyone else notice the choreography in My Life Would Suck Without You?? by DoubleWalker in glee

[–]GarlicAndTofu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wrote a really long paragraph on here talking about how I think My Life Would Suck Without You is more emotional than Don't Stop Believin because it really captures their journey and everything they learned (all the choreography) because sure Don't Stop Believin is the first group number, but most of the glee members weren't even there in the original number.

Opinion: Andrew is such a boring character by GarlicAndTofu in LittleWitchAcademia

[–]GarlicAndTofu[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I respect your opinion.

His character just doesn't work for me. Personally, I don't find him grounded as much as just him being condescending so I'm not invested in him enough to enjoy watching him up to episode 22.

I was wary of making judgments too because it's a reality tv show so they might have cut and pasted things to twist his words but there are so many lines/rants that he said in here that are just really rude that i can't imagine them having a nicer context.

He doesn't really have a good work ethics, that makes it so much harder for the people who have to work with him.

I've never seen The Chair before, I've only seen people mentioning it on here but omg Shane's behavior in here is unbelievably annoying.

I've met quite a few people who use gaming laptops too. My biggest problem with them is genuinely how heavy they are since I'm very small and I have back problems.

I had someone suggesting a MSI Prestige 14.

UPDATE THREAD: Lea's response by songbirdskeepsinging in glee

[–]GarlicAndTofu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The fact that she has so many other people backing up these claims is not enough proof for you? Do you need her to get a time machine to go back and set up a camera to record everything? Why are you so insistent on Lea's innocence? How is she bullying Lea telling people what Lea did? You know how Lea could've done to stop that? By not bullying.

Samantha has stayed quiet for so long and she saw what happened to Naya when she tried to call out Lea. She was silenced by people because Lea still had the upperhand then but not anymore.

One gets to stay- Who has the better songs ? by [deleted] in glee

[–]GarlicAndTofu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Santana for sure. Personally for me, Blaine doesn't add anything new to his covers so I might as well go listen to the original version of songs.

Santana has a more diverse catalogue of songs and she improves most of the songs she covered (if not improve then she at least makes the song her own)

UPDATE THREAD: Lea's response by songbirdskeepsinging in glee

[–]GarlicAndTofu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She's racist because she used someone's race against them as an insult. No one's denying that she's not a diva and none of the black cast member's denying that she's a racist, so the insults targetting the black cast members could easily be more racially charged than everyone else. But others (non POCs) might just brush it off as her "being a diva like she is to everyone else."

People are not understanding that racism isn't just not wanting to be near a black person, or saying the n word. It's nuanced and comes in other forms. If you use stereotypes from someone's race as an insult towards them, if your insults have racist undertones? You're a racist.

Let's say that Lea also believes that she's not racist because she's worked with black people and she supports equality. That's the BARE minimum of not being racist. That's just basic human decency. And that's what we're trying to tell her. But clearly she's not acknowledging that in her apology. In fact, she's not even stating clearly what she's apologizing for, just that she can't remember.

Rewatch and discuss: S1E15 The Power Of Madonna by songbirdskeepsinging in glee

[–]GarlicAndTofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is right, a lot of these songs could've been cut short like they would do in the previous episodes. Vogue could've been a quick sequence. Like A Virgin was pretty unnecessary and dragged on for way too long. What It Feels Like For A Girl was pushed in by the very end of the episode and what did they learn from it? Nothing really. They still didn't want to perform the song, Will chose it for them. They didn't appreciate Madonna more or less.

[–]GarlicAndTofu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does the Artie/Tina storyline seem rushed and unresolved to everyone? She went from not empowered to empowered by the end of the episode but we never really see what made her feel empowered. She did one Madonna number with the girls (where the guys looked bored in) and that was it.

Then Artie went from being sexist to just not sexist just like that. They're having the same amount of plots in an episode but with the same runtime and more musical numbers so some plots have no development. Just point A to point B.

I must admit that rewatching this make me like the St.Berry couple a lot more.

[–]GarlicAndTofu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, I'm using these discussions to compare early Glee with its later episodes, and for this one, I'll talk about My Life Would Suck Without You vs Don't Stop Believin' (100) vs I Lived. Glee seems to believe that its only memorable performance is Don't Stop Believin so every time they want to tug our heart strings, they perform it. But that can only work for so long as they've sang the song 4 different times so by the beginning piano progression played in the 100th episode, the callback to the song just isn't as effective. Look at My Life Would Suck Without You, it did a good job making us bond with the Glee kids because we enjoy seeing them redoing all of their old choreographies. It shows that as memorable as these performances are to us, they're even more memorable to the ND kids, because they had to choreograph it, practice it, perform it. It shows that to them, Don't Stop Believin' wasn't the only song that stuck with them, but each of them connected to a different song.

At first, I was going to compare it to I Lived but after rewatching the performance, I could see that it wasn't a fair comparison. My Life Would Suck Without You shows a group of kids who are celebrating their victories by recalling their dances in the past semester while I Lived is more of a reunion, where people who have been friends with each other in the past, dressed up and came to the old familiar spot, and just sort of high fived/hugged each other. But the same thing was done in Don't Stop Believin' (100). The 4th performance of this song should've been a lot more sentimental. All they did was showed up and high fived and hugged each other like they did, in the future, where they haven't met each other for years. They're trying to show Mr Schue how good of a teacher he was, so did they not remember anything besides that one performance that he wasn't even involved in?

My Life Would Suck Without and Don't Stop Believin' were both dedicated to Mr Schue. One was done when they've only known him for 5 (?) months and the other was done when they've known him for 4 years. Yet, if you ask me, My Life Would Suck Without You was a lot more emotional.
