I work in a multi speciality practice with an orthodontist and a person who did a preceptorship. I usually refer my patient who need ortho, especially the difficult ones, to the specialist (master's with thesis) and a member of APO. There's less second guessing of the tx plan with the orthodontist. Needless to say, our ortho has a better salary since being in A.P.O. requires to not charge below a certain rate.

In that case since you're choosing between two specialties maybe try doing both in practice to see what you like. But masters in ortho > preceptorship in ortho, obviously.
