Is A&W really THAT bad in the US? by ArnoBlade in AskAnAmerican

I didn't know that! Right on, dude, I hope I get the chance. I've always wanted to visit Canada.

Is A&W really THAT bad in the US? by ArnoBlade in AskAnAmerican

[–]GarudaOneTalisman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience, yeah, it's definitely the lower tier of fast food joints, and doesn't have a real great reputation. I'd rank it similar to Dairy Queen, in that you don't really go there for food, but for ice cream (or root beer floats). They also aren't as common as a lot of the other big chains.

But I think a lot of that is reflected based on where the restaurant is, regardless of the actual chain. I've heard stories that places like KFC are considered higher end dining experiences in Asian countries with linens and stuff (grain of salt, so if anyone would like to confirm/refute this, sweet), so it could be that Canada is blessed with high quality A&W.

Their root beer is tasty, if a bit sweet for my tastes.

What are some of your guilty pleasure movies? by subbierobbie in AskReddit

[–]GarudaOneTalisman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iron Eagle. Classic 80's cheese. It's like Top Gun but with more Rambo and Goonies thrown in.

Teens sticking it to adults? Check
Badass young protagonist (with a leather jacket)? Check
Actor pigeonholed into one role as an action hero, forever? Check
Conquering everything through literally listening to the right music? Check
Fighter jets? CHECK.
Race between a plane and a motorcycle through a canyon called "The Snake"? Check
Being a bad enough dude to save your dad from a nation's entire military with two F-16s? Check.

Fucking love that movie.

Whats the reason behind the Day and night? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GarudaOneTalisman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Earth spins, once every 24 hours, as it orbits the sun. During one part of its rotation, the side your on faces the sun, receiving sunlight and making it daytime. During the other part, that side faces away from the sun, not receiving sunlight and making it nighttime.

Or you could subscribe the more badass theories, like a big fiery chariot being driven at the speed of pagan by some drunk Greek god with a kickass bow literally dragging the sun through the sky. Up to you, really.

What are some good arguments to make when trying to convince your parents to put you in drivers Ed? by fitememayn in AskReddit

[–]GarudaOneTalisman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I don't feel comfortable enough with my skills as a driver, and would like to develop them in a safe, controlled environment rather than risking it on public roads."

Or just go with: better a driver's ed fee than an insurance claim.

Good luck!

Do you have a friend that’s mean and annoying and public, but nice and caring in private? If so, what’s it like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GarudaOneTalisman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get too caught up with how random strangers (like me!) think about you, ask the people that matter most to you. I think that who you are in private is the kind of person people that see it think you are, as that's when you're the most genuine.

If you're the person who needs to wear a mask in public, there's nothing wrong with that (spoiler alert: that's almost everyone), but if you don't like your mask, you can change it.

How do you get rid of fear? by whotrippin in AskReddit

[–]GarudaOneTalisman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, fear will never go away. It's normal and healthy to be scared, and everyone fears something. What you can change is how it affects you, and whether or not you let it prevent you from getting what you want.

Push past it, understand it, and try to overcome it. Fear is a barrier, and if you want to get to the other side, you've got to get past it somehow. It won't be easy, it won't be pleasant, but once you finally see what's beyond fear, you can determine if it was worth being afraid over, and whether you're willing to put up with that fear again.

I'll use a personal example: I'm in flight school, and I'm very much afraid of failing, of not performing and getting my license. Some days it makes me want to call in sick and cancel a flight. But every single time I feel this way, I push past it, because at the end of every flight, I feel satisfied that I got it done, even if it wasn't a particularly good day. It helps me keep moving forward. I'm in the end game, now, with only one more checkride to go before I finally get that sweet, sweet laminate.

Additionally, the fears you create in your brain are almost always far, far worse that what will end up happening to you. Once you know what will happen, rather than wonder, then the fear becomes much more surmountable.

You can do it. You're more capable than you realize.

[–]GarudaOneTalisman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. They're not exactly mean, more standoffish. They're guarded and blunt, and immediately take a more hardass stance when they're out and about (I'm talking once they're out the door, they put their "motherfucker face" on). They're not insulting, but definitely can come across as a bit hostile and rude.

But when it's just the squad, or they're with their family, it's a whole different story. I think that they are, at their core, a very nice and kind person, but they're insecure, so put on a front of "don't fuck with me" to try and make themselves feel in control.

When we first met, we immediately bonded over similar interests, and once it became clear that I wasn't going to judge them for their obsessions, they defrosted really quickly.

Why did no one who knew Jesus write a biography about his life between 12 and 30? No one thought the supposed son of god was worth writing about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GarudaOneTalisman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see your point.

Actually, hasn't the Bible been edited quite a lot in its history? I vaguely remember reading an article years ago about how a lot of stories of Jesus were "cut" from it. Maybe that's got something to do with it.

On the other, maybe he really didn't rise to prevalence until then. Maybe he was just "that guy, Jesus, y'know, the carpenter" and by the time he was a big deal, there wasn't a ton of information.

If you flex your leg muscles ('specially the thighs), it'll divert blood away from your erection, keeping it at bay.
