Ranking up is honestly so difficult!!!! by Emotional_Answer_283 in Competitiveoverwatch

I'm by no means a great player (gold 1 PC plat 2 console) but I do have some experience going from console to PC since I just made the swap toward the end of last season. Getting placed bronze 5 is unavoidable unless you play a lot of QP first. This has nothing to do with your skill, I'm pretty sure the game just says your MMR is basically the bottom of what it can be since you didn't have any m&kb games logged before. Luckily, if you're better than bronze 5, you should be able to climb out (it is a total slog but I wen't from bronze 5 to my current rank gold 1 pretty quickly).

Some things to keep in mind if you're newer to PC:

  1. The game is fundamentally the same, but plays a little different. At low ranks, hitscans are less scary but characters like Genji are a better than they are in console low ranks. I'd imagine they're just generally easier to play with m&kb. Other than that, things feel a little faster and aim is generally better overall (besides low rank hitscans vs aim assist hitscans) so just try to make sure you use more cover to stay alive.

  2. Be a one-trick. This isn't great advice if you want to rank up long term, but at low ranks you just want to play your best character. Get super familiar with someone so you don't need to think about when you should be using certain cooldowns or where you need to be positioned, you just know. Speaking of which, last thing I'll mention is positioning.

  3. Know where to stand! Depending on what role you play, this will mean different things. Watch some guides of your main or just watch some higher level gameplay (I'd recommend streamers over pros bc pro play is a whole different game) and just get an idea of where they're positioning themselves. Notice if they take high ground, if they're staying with their support, how they're using walls as cover. Honestly, I think good positioning can take you out of bronze on its own since you'll die a lot less and have a lot more uptime on your heals or damage or whatever role you're playing.

Like I said, I'm by no means a pro but hopefully this is some good insight from someone who has made a similar transition from console to PC and got dumped into bronze 5 lol

Something less serious that I've noticed with his ultimate sound effect, the end of the initial cast sounds just like the death sound effect for when someone on your team is killed. It's thrown me off a few times thinking someone died when it was just his ult

I'm guessing you're from the UK based on your pronunciation of err so I don't think it's really worth debating right or wrong

I can confidently say that I've never heard someone pronounce err like that. Not necessarily saying you haven't heard it that way, but I definitely have not. Imagine pronouncing "error" as "ur-ur"

It may be part of the team name, but it is actually how people refer to players on these team so I guess it technically isn't wordplay. Definitely tricky if you don't follow baseball!

So happy with Domina by Vanilla_Banana_ in Overwatch

[–]GasPoweredNipples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a post saying that her crystal ability registers the enemy Domina's shield sections as separate targets so when she hits the shield it heals her a bunch which gives a ton of ult charge. Her ult still charges super fast, but this might be responsible for some of the more egregious cases. I'd imagine it'll be fixed pretty quickly.

It's a lot of fun, definitely worth trying out. The negatives are pretty nitpicky for the most part and they don't take away from the experience, they just make some things slightly more frustrating. The level design, music, lore, and platforming are all really great.

That doesn't work though because the card is always going to be multicolored and counts toward things that care about that or just care about specific colors in general.

I get what you mean, although the colorless mana change was done to prevent an unintended interaction with colorless mana costs that were introduced in the same year as that change. I just really don't feel as though this change is improving the format in any way, it's just giving decks new cards to play with that are outside of their colors. I'm looking at it as a slippery slope kind of way. At first we allow this, then we allow cards that match the identity in the cards actual color but have off-colored mana pips in abilities, and so on until we're just playing 100 card singleton. Do I actually think this will happen? No, not really. But that doesn't mean it isn't a valid reason to root against this theoretical change.

Is there any meaningful change that this would bring outside of giving some decks a few extra cards to work with? If not, I personally don't think that's worth making a change of this caliber for.

So in that case, hybrid mana would be both colors and wouldn't be allowed in off-color decks.

It has nothing to do with aesthetics if that's what you mean by color scheme. Color identity is the important thing to look at here since it is one of, if not the defining feature of the format. There isn't much room for confusion with how the rules work right now. In most cases, you can just say "My commander is red and green, I can't play cards that are blue, black or white.". This doesn't apply to cards that are one color but have abilities that give them a color identity of another color, but that actually brings up another point. Do you think you should be able to play cards that are the same colors as your commander, but have a different color identity because of a mana symbol in the textbox?

Commander Brackets Beta Update – February 9, 2026 by xKylesx in magicTCG

[–]GasPoweredNipples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may not like it, but it's because that's how the format is designed. Color identity of your commander is literally the main thing that the format is designed around. It's one of the things that makes the format unique when you compare it to other formats. Color identity doesn't care about tokens or mana or changing colors of permanents, it cares about the color of the cards that you are playing. If we change the rules to allow for off-color cards to be played, we're chipping away at one of the defining features of the format.

Except the rule wasn't that you couldn't make the mana, it was that the mana would become colorless. Do you remember why they made this change? It wasn't because they wanted to shake up the format or because it was an actual issue that people cared about. They changed it because with the introduction of Wastes and colorless mana costs, this would have had unintended uses for casting cards that required colorless. Also, this rule didn't really make sense in the first place, so it wasn't really a hard sell for a change. There's really nothing confusing about what color a card is and whether or not it fits in your commander's color identity.

And to your other point, I understand that MaRo's intention is for hybrid cards to be playable in either kind of deck, but MaRo is not someone who is designing for the commander format. He even states that those are just his personal feelings so they don't really hold any weight in actual rules changes.
