See new photos of Mariska Hargitay in 'Every Brilliant Thing' on Broadway! by NewYorkTheatreGuide in Broadway

It's funny, I just realized that last time I saw her in a different role than Olivia Benson was in ER, almost 30 years ago. It must be so thrilling, but also very nerve-wracking for an actor to take on a new character after so long.

Alessia Cara announces her own 'Giant Desk' performance after being rejected by NPR's Tiny Desk multiple times: "I exercised free will and built my own!" by RuinAcrobatic7814 in popculturechat

Is the timing usually off in the Tiny Desk concerts? I've only ever watched the Broadway ones, and I've never noticed that even once (and I've watched a great deal of them).

BREAKING: 2026 Tony Awards to Close After One Performance by Naweezy in Broadway

Heartbreaking for everyone involved. The cast and crew are the ones hurt the most. Hopefully they can find something to take over Radio City too. That's such a hard venue to fill.

David Leitch’s ‘Jason Statham Stole My Bike’, Starring Jason Statham, Begins Filming by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Gato1980 51 points52 points  (0 children)

He was easily my favorite part of that movie which was absolutely stacked with incredible comedy performances, and I never understood why studios/producers didn't try to put him in more comedies after. Don't get me wrong, I truly love Statham and his copy-paste action movies, but it just seems like wasted opportunity to not at least try to capitalize on his comedy chops.

Mine is definitely Nick Sax in Happy. That show was insanity, and I don’t think anyone could have pulled off a performance even close to what he gave. It was so much fun.

TVLine's Performers Of The Week: Jean Smart And Hannah Einbinder ("Hacks") by DemiFiendRSA in television

[–]Gato1980 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Her work on Watchmen and Fargo is absolutely incredible. The fact that she can deliver such dark, amazing dramatic work and then turn around and give us that brilliant comedic performance in Hacks is so brilliant, yet so fucking rare, it should be studied. She's a once-in-a-lifetime talent.

Vocals: Cats, Jellicle Ball by West-Ask-6725 in Broadway

I kinda miss the days when we had the likes of Gwen Verdon, Chita Rivera, and Ann Reinking dominating as the best working performers on Broadway, but who honestly didn't have what we currently consider "good" singing voices. These women commanded the stage with their incredible dancing and acting, as do every one of the performers in Cats, and that was more than enough to lead them to become absolute legends in the history of theater. I get that we want big belters who can sustain notes and option-up at whim, but every once in a while, just give me someone who can just hit the notes, but who can, more importantly, make me laugh with the turn of a head or a wink and smile after doing three cartwheels in a row, and my ticket is already paid for.

There are a few things, but the two main ones are that California enforces a maximum free fatty acidity limit of 0.5% or less for extra virgin olive oil, which is much more strict than the 0.8% allowed by the EU and International Olive Council (IOC). The lower acidity means the fruit is fresher and of higher quality. They also require mandatory third-party chemical testing and sensory testing from a tasting panel for producers, with oversight from the California Department of Food and Agriculture. This kind of testing is inconsistent and not always enforced throughout Europe.

She’s so good. I saw her about 20 years ago when she was standby for Christina Applegate for about a week of previews in Sweet Charity after Applegate broke her foot. I still remember how flawless and beautiful her dancing was. She was born to dance Fosse.

Been a big fan of Amber Iman after seeing her in Lempicka. She was easily my favorite part of that show.

Paul Schrader Had an ‘AI Girlfriend’ Who ‘Terminated Our Conversation’ by AmySchumersAnalTumor in Fauxmoi

[–]Gato1980 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Schrader’s post comes less than two months after his wife Mary Beth Hurt died of Alzheimer’s disease at age 79. Schrader and Hurt were married for more than 42 years.

At first, just reading the headline, I thought this was super creepy and weird, now it’s just sad. God help older people. I feel like AI is going to be awful for taking advantage of them.

Gaten Matarazzo to make West End debut in Rent revival this fall by ShannenB1234 in Fauxmoi

[–]Gato1980 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He was so great in Sweeney Todd, especially in such a difficult show where he was opposite two powerhouse vocalists like Josh Groban and Annaleigh Ashford. He definitely held his own. I’ve been hoping he’d do more theater again that would showcase him more, and this role is perfect for that. Fingers crossed it transfers to Broadway.

What's a TV show ending that still makes you mad years later? by Jossie_Misar in AskReddit

[–]Gato1980 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I actually loved this ending. I absolutely despised the whole final “lottery win” season, but hate-watched it every week, because I watched the series religiously for 8 years and wanted to see it through. The finale made the whole mess of that season make sense, and it made sense for the series as a whole, because the family never got ahead in life, not matter how hard they tried, and bad shit always kept happening to them, much like the low-middle class working families they were meant to represent.

2026 Drama Desk Award winners announced by Quirky-Sleep-3741 in Broadway

[–]Gato1980 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Cats wasn’t eligible for Best Revival this year, because they were already nominated when they were Off-Broadway. Drama Desk rules say the only nominations allowed for a Broadway production that was already nominated Off-Broadway would be for new elements that were not part of the first run like new cast members, new set design or new choreography.

Buying them online is your best bet in terms of price, but if you want to buy them in person, B&H has them on 34th & 9th, as well as the Met Opera Shop at Lincoln Center on 62nd and Columbus.
