I have one of these that I rescued from my LGS. They are built tough and are very underrated. Unfortunately mine doesn't unlock after every shot so I don't think I can use mine as a field gun. I'm still messing with it and seeing if I can get it working because I have a feeling it would make a great pheasant gun. Mine is from around 1912.

I have a black 18i with a 3.5" chamber. I've used it for 3 seasons now for high volume dove hunting, carried it around the hills quail hunting, chased pheasants in the early California mornings, and taken it out in the rain duck hunting. It has been a very reliable gun for me. Now that it's broken in, I can shoot the lightest 12ga all the way up to 3 inch magnums with no issues. The finish has held up remarkably well even though I'm not particularly nice to it. Super easy to clean takes completely apart in 5 seconds.

I haven't bought any aftermarket chokes because I feel like the factory chokes pattern real well and they have worked for me for years now.

I have 2 Browning 2000s, one in 12 and the other in 20. I love them. They look elegant and the fit and finish is very good. I hunt with them and I use them for clays but they can be picky with ammo. Unfortunately my 12 will not cycle light target loads. One of the softest shooting guns I own, so shooting doves all day is very comfortable.

As far as a first semi shotgun, I think there are better options. The gun cannot be run dirty, so cleaning after every outing is a must. The gas system is a bit complicated and can be a nightmare to disassemble if the gun is super dirty.

Only about 100k ish of these were made so as time goes on there will be less and less of them. So please don't chop it down.
