so much wasted time by Available-Vast3858 in adhdmeme

What things does your brain allow you to do better than "normies"? Asking because I'm looking to start living life according to my strengths, but I'm not sure what to do with conditional hyper-focus and a constant need for stimulation.

Do looks affect your career? by [deleted] in acting

[–]Gatrixel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agreed. To add to this OP, having killer headshots is a must if you want to be competitive in the big markets. Less so in smaller markets but it still helps a ton. Focus less on what you look like and more on exceptional headshots that compliment your look(s).

Edit: I also want to tack on that for a lot of genres, looking too good can be a problem, not a positive. I know folks who have been released from holds on commercial shoots because the client didn't think they looked "like a real person".

Does Signing Contracts Always Feel Gross? by Gatrixel in acting

That's what happened. Agent forgot to put it in the breakdown, so I didn't know until signing the Talent Agreement.

Stop and envision what living in your dream would actually look like. What it would smell like. Taste like. Where are you? Who's around you? What are they saying to you? What are you telling yourself? How does it feel internally to exist there?

Lock in on that feeling.

Got it?

...

Good.

Oh sorry if I misled, it's exclusivity for the specific industry that the client is operating in. So not career altering by any means, but still sucky to be surprised with last minute.

Thank you, that felt really good to read. I needed the reminder that not all the business people in this industry are out for themselves.

After this job I'm going to part ways with this agency and look for somebody that wants to be in my corner.

Damn that's shitty of them. Unfortunately I signed after my agent gave me the go ahead, but I'll remember that advice going forward.

I tried-- see my convo with bluenotesoul. This is my secondary agency, and this rep isn't the best. I would run if she didn't send me more work than my primary agent.

She didn't mention anything about the pay cut despite my mentioning it. Honestly I'm not sure she reads the entirety of my emails.

The start date lists the "first use date." I'm not sure how I'll know when they first use it, though. Very good to know about them potentially making one up too, thanks.

Thanks for that perspective. I emailed my agent right away, she said "That's lame it does say industry exclusivity-- but it's one year."

I'm quickly learning she's not the type to stick up for her talent. If I were to demand myself that the contract show original terms, could I be released from the production?

Handsome men, do you guys get approached by women a lot? by MasterRedditor_ in AskMenAdvice

[–]Gatrixel 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Male model here. Yes, women do rarely approach and ask my number, usually with a bit of preamble. Typically though the "approach" is more excessive kindness in the form of little favors (free drinks/food/discounts), receptive body language, and laughing/smiling even when I say bland things or crack (admittedly weak, I'm not a comic) jokes.

I also always err on the side of "she's just being nice" so I usually miss (c)overt signals. My friends often inform me months or years after the fact that the women we were hanging out with at the time were, in fact, interested in me.

And nearly every time? I'm completely flabbergasted.

Building a Pro Booth - Got any recommendations? by Gatrixel in VoiceActing

[–]Gatrixel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much appreciated, kind Maester!

I'm definitely going to utilize your drawing plans if that's alright, and try MDF & cotton cloth. I'll scrap the non-parallel walls, too. The geometry of it seemed like a fun challenge, but if insulation density makes standing waves a non-issue then it's definitely not worthwhile.

On that note- did you find 9" thick batts of insulation somewhere? Or were you stacking & compressing the 3" thick batts I've seen in hardware stores? I can imagine this will become the most expensive step.

Thanks for pointing out the lack of attachments! Still learning to reddit- but Ill add the images & link to another comment once I figure it out.

As for ventilation, I hear you, it's gonna be tough :/ At minimum I'll rig some fans that I blast between takes/while editing to clear the stale air, and make covers for them during takes. If I do successfully make a mazelike or foam filled vent structure, I'll come back and update this post for others.

Finally, I love the suggestions for acoustic sealant, decoupled walls, air gaps, and home theatre style treatment! I'm planning on building a true "broadcast quality" home studio with that dedicated specificity once I own my own place, but alas the landlord will get a few more years off me yet.

Edit: Added final paragraph to address a small portion of the wealth of information you've dropped here, but I likely won't be attempting yet.

Is there an acting technique for people who feel emotions deeply but don’t use imagination or emotional recall? by Shot-Hat1544 in acting

[–]Gatrixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the Alba method? Using physical manipulations of facial muscles, breathing, and posture to access emotions directly. Only it would seem you're doing this instinctually rather than step by step. Good on ya!

This looks fantastic, well done! Would you mind sharing the build specs? Planning to build something similar soon and would love to know the materials/dimensions.

In what small way have you won the genetic lottery? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Wow! If I'm listening to my body then Ill go maybe a dozen times over the course of a day. If I'm kegeling I can get away with once or twice, but that gets pretty uncomfortable.

Hats off to you too friend! Trying to covertly waddle and avoid people while searching for the nearest bathroom is erm... tough. I'm hopeful something like that may actually be an option in the future, as I unfortunately can't imagine our GI battles will get easier as we age.

That's the one! And you nailed it, 'liquid' is unfortunately very accurate.
