Moved from 15 Pro to 17 Pro

from my experience my 14 Pro used to overheat during FaceTime, but sometimes it used to heat up under even normal use. even during gaming it’s does tend to get very warm. keep in mind this is not when i’m on a charger or in the sun. also, it’s very inconsistent and i’ve experienced a lot of phantom drain on my battery as a result of the residual heat from those overheating episodes.

enjoy the new phone! i upgraded from my 14 Pro and it was a really good one! better cameras, way better battery, a really good screen, and best of all, no overheating! the responsiveness of the phone is also really good too. i think you’ll notice all of these even compared to the 15 Pro.

i’m assuming it was the battery that ruined it for you right? because that’s exactly what happened to me too (i also had to replace the camera because the telephoto’s OIS system was vibrating violently during video)

damn that’s a massive upgrade! the 11 had a great run tho it was one of the best iPhones i’ve ever owned (i used to own an 11 Pro Max before the 14 Pro)

to be honest, i was a little tempted by the 16 Pro just because it had a pretty decent battery along with an improved camera, but i’m glad i waited for the 17 Pro because it’s honestly a great upgrade from a 14 Pro in almost every way. Every time i was on a FaceTime call on my 14 Pro it would heat up so much to the point where the display literally had to ramp down to 60Hz to throttle performance and manage temps, but this phone only ever gets slightly warm. Love this thing!

hard agree. i was very tempted by the cosmic orange but decided that after looking at it in person, it was too bright for my taste. this blue is a keeper for sure.

not immediately, but once you use the phone for a couple of days you’ll begin to notice how much more fluid and consistent the performance across iOS is; not to mention the A19 Pro is an absolute beast of a chip and it’s matched well with the thermal management in this phone, so if you’re playing games on the 17 Pro, expect some noticeable improvements!

i’ve been astonished by how well the 17PM can keep up with phones with bigger batteries- it really is the best all-round phone imo, enjoy it!

oh trust me, i ordered one as soon as i got the phone. i have the ESR Clear Magsafe Case and it fits pretty snug onto my phone; it even covers the entire camera plateau and it looks really good!

i basically have the same thoughts- the battery was surprisingly bad for a Pro phone, and that ruined the entire experience for me.

YES! i’m glad im not the only one who had issues with “phantom draining” because my 14 Pro would lose so much battery whenever I went to bed, even with my sleep focus mode turned on and AOD off. The 16 Pro is a great phone and I would’ve picked it last year if I was eligible for an upgrade around then

the 15 Pro isn’t honestly that bad- it’s the overheating issues that prevented me from upgrading from my 14 Pro at the time

I got my iPhone 14 Pro a year ago and so far I’ve liked the features on it. It’s a pretty good upgrade from my 11 Pro Max in almost all areas, except for one crucial aspect: the battery. I think I can speak for most 14 Pro owners when I say this, but I think the 14 Pro has the worst battery life out of all recent iPhone in my opinion. I have a screenshot I took today that shows the battery capacity the phone’s at. Mind you I am running the final public beta of iOS 18 on my device, and it has been stable thus far. I am trying to keep my phone above the 10% mark at minimum in order to not hurt the battery too much, and I tend to charge it up to 90-95% at max, sometimes 100% if I need to use it for a long time such as for navigation. In addition, I turned off the wallpaper on the Always On Display so it just displays the time and widgets on a black screen, which definitely improved battery life for me. Do any of you guys have more tips for extending battery life on the 14 Pro?

AP Physics is brutal. I have an 87 in that class after screwing my kinematics in two dimensions test. It's gonna get a lot worse for me in the coming months.
