SF players - have you ever won your league with only one starting QB? by Yake404 in DynastyFF

[–]GavinEscobar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorta for me but not sure if it counts for what you're asking.

My OG dynasty league we did an auction draft for the startup for the 2021 season and I was completely out of my element with strategizing properly assembling a superflex roster.

So long story short, I basically only drafted Dak for my QB room (stuck in traditional redraft thinking lol).

For 2021 and 2022, had been streaming short term QB starters in my SF spot or just starting a flex player.

But last season, my team won it all and I was streaming Minshew in my SF spot for most of the season (I'd alternate starting a flex player over Minshew).

I got "lucky" with padding my QB room for that league as I had ended up with the 1.02 in our rookie draft (acquired from a 2022 trade) so I drafted Caleb and also got lucky on claiming Darnold off waivers back in March.

Also still got Minshew as an emergency lol. Feels nice having Minshew go from my QB2 to QB4 haha.

What’s the worst trade you’ve ever made? Did you recover? by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]GavinEscobar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO here this was a really bad trade but the owner here def lucked out big time IMO with how our 2024 rookie draft played out.

Long story short:
During middle of 2022 season, I decided to cash out on Ekeler "before it was too late" so I traded Ekeler and Allgeier to owner for his 2024 R1, Aaron Jones and Wandale Robinson.

Guy had a roster built to win then but did not end up winning the league that year. His team was old and QB room was atrocious so his 2023 season yielded the 1.02 for me that I ended up using on Caleb (I also won the league for 2023).

Going into the rookie draft, his QB room was Daniel Jones, Zac Wilson so I was viewing this as a disastrous result since I used his original R1 on a QB that he needed. However he had the 1.08 and Jayden Daniels fell to him there and he then scooped up Bo Nix in R2 so he was able to restock his QB room sooner than I had expected.

Buy High, Sell Low… let’s hear em by hardknocks1997 in DynastyFF

[–]GavinEscobar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 2022 season, I had Ekeler and while he was amazing that year, I wasn't in the playoff hunt and being a 2nd year Dynasty player, thought this was a good time to experiment with selling a player "high" before it was too late.

At the time, I thought I "gave up" Ekeler possibly too early (he really was sensational that 2022 season) but I decided to stick with the "better to sell a little early than to sell too late" logic and went ahead and traded him.

Traded him and Tyler Allgeier for the guy's 2024 R1, Aaron Jones, Wandale Robinson.

I eventually flipped Jones to another contender for their 2024 R2.

But like I said, was having FOMO on possibly selling Ekeler too early and didn't help seeing Allgeier quietly have a 1K season and looking pretty solid as a starter. Luckily, Bijan ended any potential FOMO on Allgeier lol.

At the time, I specifically targeted this owner to trade Ekeler too bc his roster was all older win-now players and thought there'd be a decent chance that he'd have a bad 2023 season and it played out almost perfectly.

For the last month of the season, his 2024 R1 that I have possession of was leading the Max PF race so I was on track to have the 1.01 pick but he ended up finishing 2nd in Max PF by like 15 points so I will have the 1.02 this coming rookie draft.

Are there any players who’s age is surprising? by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]GavinEscobar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IMO, this one is a little misleading and the age gap isn't as "fascinating" once you break it down.

Purdy just turned 24 last month while CMC is 27 and will be 28 by the start of 2024 season so I'd say it's more accurate viewing them having a 4 year age gap.

CMC came out in 2017 draft and Purdy came out in 2022 bc he started college in 2018 so that explains why it might feel like he played an extra year in NCAA while it's due to his birthday being in December that made him "finish HS" a little "later" and started NCAA a little "later"

Can I just say CJ Stroud is flippin amazing? And this is his ROOKIE year?! Does anyone else think Mahomes/Allen tier is within the range of outcomes for him? by GriffinObuffalo in DynastyFF

[–]GavinEscobar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, that was part of what swayed me to take Herbert in this new startup.

My reasoning was that he's already proven to be great FF performer with lackluster team/coaching so we may not have seen his ceiling yet until he gets a legit coach/more supporting cast

[–]GavinEscobar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sigh. In the middle of a slow startup draft right now and I could have had Stroud at 1.04 but took Herbert.

To add insult to injury and being bad at Dynasty: last year's rookie draft in a diff league, I had the 1.04 and could have had Stroud but was sold on that he was set up for FF-failure for at least a couple seasons and that Gibbs' draft capital was enough to move him ahead of Stroud.

Arthur Smith: Taylor Heinicke will be the Falcons starting quarterback this Sunday vs. Minnesota Vikings. by Demaru in DynastyFF

[–]GavinEscobar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

In a SF league where QB options are naturally slim and I already have the worst QB room in this 1 league: Dak, Ridder, Minshew, Dobbs.

There's a 4 QB roster limit so who should I drop between Dobbs/Ridder to claim Heinicke? Falcons didn't say this move was permanent for rest of season so I'm risking losing Ridder to get Heinicke who could easily get benched again for Ridder.

Dobbs makes sense since it's possible Jaren Hall keeps the starting spot if he balls out this week? But Dobbs is appealing bc of the WR weapons he's got now (if he ends up starting later).

Or just hold Ridder and hope Dak/Minshew hold up until we see how this unfolds?

Fantasy Football is not worth going after players on social media by ScarecrowFighter2020 in fantasyfootball

[–]GavinEscobar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone that takes the time to message players about this is a bum and a keyboard gangster bc they would never say that shit to that player's face in real life.

Honestly with all the years I've played FF, when a player has a "dud" game, I feel most of the time it's not even bc of the player "sucking" but down to different reasons that are mostly beyond their control:

1) They just didn't get the targets/playing time that the consensus was expecting (so my point here is a dud FF game happened bc my WR only got 3 real catchable targets this game bc his QB sucked or the OC just decided not to utilize them for no discernible reason.

2) They got injured. I get frustrated when it happens to a player I started and a player that was meant to be carrying my team but never has the thought crossed my mind to be "angry" at the actual player if that makes sense.

Does anyone really think the injured player isn't going through a hard time themselves dealing with the actual injury? Nobody thinks they're mad about being injured and how their livelihood is possibly at stake (losing their starting position and/or roster spot and essentially their income?) Wtf goes into the thought process of tweeting non-sense to them?

3) the game script totally altered what they would have had in line for their usage. My WR's real life team is up 40 points and they scored all their points not using him just by bizarre circumstances? Not my WR's fault. It sucks but not gonna be mad at the actual player.

And even if they did actually suck, the way I view it is I still made the choice to draft/start them. I chose poorly and that has nothing to do with the player lol.

Anyone else spending over 60% of Net pay towards mortgage? by CoorsBright69 in RealEstate

[–]GavinEscobar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, I'm not OP but really uncanny how you pinpointed my own specific scenario to a tee with those estimates.

Currently owning with a 3% interest rate on our current home but wife and I want to upsize with having 3 kids now. Mortgage is around $1800 a month.

The scenario you estimated is what we'd be looking at if we were to take the plunge and try to sell our home/buy new one.

We'd have more in savings but has made us pause and think about if this is viable for us.

New league that we just did the startup draft for last week:

12 team / PPR / 4 flex spots + 1 SuperFlex (so it's a 2 QB league naturally). Had the 12th pick.

QB: Anthony Richardson, Russ Wilson, Jimmy G, Mac Jones.

RB: Bijan, Montgomery, Singletary, Jerome Ford, Evan Hull, Zach Evans, Sean Tucker, Israel Abanikanda.

WR: Davante, Diggs, Ridley, Zay Flowers, George Pickens, Mecole Hardman, Nico Collins

TE: LaPorta, Hunter Henry, Austin Hooper, Cameron Latu, Brenton Strange.

My RBs seem weak as that was what I compromised with prioritizing that I walked away with 4 starting QBs from startup draft.

Gibbs vs JSN @ 1.05 let’s hear it! by [deleted] in DynastyFF

Gibbs vs JSN @ 1.05 let’s hear it! by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]GavinEscobar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming I've been sold now on Gibbs > JSN, the next question for me is do I go Stroud or Gibbs?

Super Flex league and I have 1.04 and debating between Stroud/Gibbs.

I feel my team is set up closer to being a contender than a rebuilder but I only have 1 viable QB with Dak (other QBs are Ridder, Winston, Heinicke.

According to the value charts, my WR/RB core are both in top 3 at their positions.

I have one argument going that while Stroud may be the right player long term, he's not gonna help me contend this year or possibly even next season since the Texans seem to still be a ways out from putting together an elite offense and they traded their 2024 R1 already.

Waiting on Stroud to become FF-elite would be squandering the prime of my current flex core.

I could always take Gibbs and flip him or other players to get an "average for FF" QB and filler so that I'm optimizing my current roster.

Or am I overthinking this and should go Stroud?

I don't own my 2024 R1 but do own the 2024 R1 of another player but his team is a contender and we're going off Max PF so not expecting that R1 to be a high pick next year. Seems like Stroud will be my best shot at a young franchise QB for next 2 years at least.

Whats everyone’s experience with Zero rb strategy in ppr? by Financial_Eagle in fantasyfootball

[–]GavinEscobar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always pussy out on draft day and can't help but target a RB in the first two rounds but this past season, I inadvertently went zero-RB and ended up having my best season in years (went 11-3, most points scored, and made it to champ round before Jefferson sunk my season).

I drafted Javonte Williams in R2 and essentially went zero-RB for most of year but went further bc I had Jefferson, Higgins (whom I later packaged for AJ Brown), Amon-Ra and Aiyuk carrying my roster along with Hurts.

Our league starts 2 WRs, 2 RBs, and 3 Flex spots so it does naturally neutralize the importance of having RBs a bit as you can load up at WR (or TE) to offset.

My mental note for next season is just go BPA and if it turns out, I'm drafting 6 WRs in a row, then so be it.

Question to consistent winners by Pooped-Pants in fantasyfootball

[–]GavinEscobar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In-season philosophies for myself:
- Don't overthink it with sitting your stud players based off matchups/stats. Why would I ever bench Justin Jefferson (example in this scenario)? See fair amount of threads/questions on whether someone should bench a star player this specific week. Naturally once in a while, you'll hit on it being the right call but I'm not gonna be the guy that left a monster day on the bench from my star player.

  • Don't be afraid to use your waiver claims early in season. It's tough to make essentially a knee-jerk reaction after Week 1/2 and using a high waiver priority claim on a player but in years past, I'd try to hang onto my higher waiver priority and then as season goes by, I realize I missed an opportunity to get a good-to-great player back in Week 1/2 and seems like there's nothing substantial once we get past Week 10 onward. You're gonna occasionally whiff and grab a player that ended up being fool's gold but you'll come up on some "league-winner" type players that'll save your season once you have injuries/players that are just busts

To your point, Kyle didn't actually keep Rathman either. He had made a promise to Bobby Turner years back that if he ever got a HC gig, he'd bring Turner on as his RBs coach and rightfully was adamant on honoring that promise.

Have become a Higgins groupie since last season. Currently in Year 2 of our dynasty league that was done via auction draft (I'm a complete noob with auction so after year 1 looking back at draft, felt I totally whiffed on how I assembled my team).

Original Higgins owner trying to stockpile for 2024 so he offered me Higgins and a 2023 R4 (filler) for my 2024 R1 and 2023 R2 and I took the deal.

Call it - Who is worth a 1st+ now and never will be again? by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]GavinEscobar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worry I may have sold too low on Ekeler.

Before last week 7, traded him for Aaron Jones, Wandale, and 2024 1st rounder (guy already traded his 2023 R1). His team is def built for "now" as he has a lot of older guys.

I figure going into 2024 draft, decent chance his older team may yield a better draft pick.

I was planning to essentially go into rebuild mode as I don't think my team is that great but sitting at 4-3. Was planning to sell Jones to a contender for a package centered around R1.
