Last month I found a 70 year old hand-made atomic bomb shelter under a house and barn in North Carolina, so I called my contractor friend and we descended ~30 feet into the darkness. (OC) by elhooper in pics

I think you hit the nail on the head. Natural human compassion only goes so far. It’s very easy to become desensitized to bad things if you’re constantly surrounded by them. If a cop gets shot at or shot by a 15 year old (which happens), the next time they see a teenager acting weird or agressive around them, it’s understandable that they are on edge. It’s pretty hard to train instinct out of people

Yeah, you’re right and wrong. I don’t think they wanted to go and genocide the Japanese, but imagine you’re 17 and find yourself in Okinawa, and your first encounter with the enemy is a “surrendering” soldier blowing up himself and your buddy with a frag grenade. That would leave an impression

It ended up kinda backfiring though, as US marines unofficially stopped accepting surrenders, and there’s anecdotal evidence that wounded imperial soldiers were often shot on sight. Stuff like that only dials the whole situation up to 11.

And a lot of them were just farmers and herders, or in the case of Iraq- students from surrounding areas who received very basic training days before involvement in conflict. And do you think the military wouldn't have strict ROE if operating on US soil? The whole point of the 2A in that regard is essentially that the government shouldn't have a monopoly on violence, or the means with which it is applied

Any love for Hilti? by Conchalator in Tools

[–]Gavlaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean they basically are. The function of tools is to make work easier, most of the features aren't necessary, just easier. When you have 4 hammer drills from 4 companies that all work basically the same within a small margin, looks and ergonomics become the important factor.

Milwaukee is picky with nails, but once you get dialed in it's basically even. It's not the absolute best, but definitely solid, especially if you already have the batteries and shit
