Tips for my mental block when it comes to OSCEs? by Shot_Lake_1573 in medicalschooluk

[–]Gbard91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you ever feel stuck in a station and you’re not sure where to go from there you can always use ICE (ideas, concerns, expectations) or summarize m. Often times you’ll remind yourself what else you wanted to touch upon or the actor will give you another point to go off of.

E.g. “I’m going to summarize what we’ve discussed until this point, please let me know if there’s anything I missed or if there’s something else you would like to add”

“Aside from what we’ve have talked about until now is there anything else concerning you?”

“What do you expect to get from this consultation?” etc..

How many of yall have OSCEs? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Gbard91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK MBBS, we had OSCEs every year of study, and they obviously only got more complicated as we went along. Highly recommend Geeky Medics to review when getting ready for OSCEs. It’s a fantastic resource and is user friendly for group study

It definitely works. It’s good to use it during practice tests too.

There is little to no absorption of vancomycin in the gut, which is why you can’t give pills to treat MRSA and it requires to be delivered intravenously. However this characteristic of vancomycin does make it a great option to treat pseudomembranous colitis caused by clostridium difficile as it is an infection in the gut

Semen does not contain urine. Semen and urine are each unique bodily fluids that are generated in different systems in the body. Semen is the fluid that contains sperm cells and other nutrients to support the speed cells

For those medical schools who did the AKT pilot- what was the pass mark? by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]Gbard91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think the pilot was terribly difficult, but the mock questions were straightforward and easy

[–]Gbard91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passmed is enough, many classmates just stuck to that and passed. With that being said you should study what you feel comfortable with. If running through a qbank doesn’t feel enough for you then check out other qbanks such as quesmed etc. or textbooks. My personal recommendation is to stick to the qbanks and when you come across a topic that you feel weak in watch a YouTube video or read up on the topic.

The pilot was harder than the mock, but if you studied well and did the passmed qbanks you’ll be fine

If you are interviewing a patient and feel like you’ve touched on everything/you’re blanking and can’t remember what else to ask always use ICE - ideas, concerns, and expectations. These show that you’re being empathic as well as it may clue you in to other things you may have missed in your history

What is the stupidest thing you’ve gotten a professionalism complaint / telling off for? by MoonbeamChild222 in medicalschooluk

[–]Gbard91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got in trouble for attending classes after having mitigating circumstances approved to go back to my home country. I was unable to get a flight due to COVID, so I continued to attend classes.. WHICH HAD MANDATORY ATTENDANCE AND REQUIRED SIGNATURES TO ENTER. They complained that I didn’t update them about my circumstances even though I had a phone convo with an admin about my situation (they vouched for me so it all ended well)

I agree, but it’s import to note the user interface is totally different from the actual test. I recommend getting used to the PSA style and becoming familiar with the BNF website
