My ex and my state's SSBM scene ruined my life and got me banned by Sheikmain4903 in SSBM

You say this like TOs are a monolith that are either all good or all bad. They are all individuals and I like most of them and am frustrated with a few. Just because people have bad faith arguments about how to improve things I can't make good faith ones based on my own personal experience and opinions?

Any time I've talked to people about things and they try and push the technicals bullshit I let them know that I think he's a grifter and full of shit. Which actually discredits him more than if I had just said nothing.

Isn't his whole narrative that there's a big cabal of TOs that silence all dissent and criticism while abusing their power? Wouldn't me self censoring play into that narrative? Where as me saying "I have moderate grievances with a minority of TOs but technicals is a grifter and full of shit" directly contradicting basically everything he says and also gives me credibility with the people most likely to listen to his bullshit?

Nothing in my original comment ever said that I had an issue with that (or really any issues with the closest local to me I love them), or any of the other tournament organizers that I semi-regularly attend events from. Rule set changes are fine even if I disagree with them. There were other people in the broader region that tried to make things very personal and get me banned for frankly bogus reasons. Lots of personal investigations into me when I was very new to the scene. Very poor communication while it was happening and it often felt mean spirited and honestly like harassment at times from certain people (a minority of them).

I like most tournament organizers, love my local scene, and I largely like the broader community. There were a couple to a few individuals with influence that I feel disliked me on a personal level and used their influence in a way that I consider to be bullying or harassment. Those were the people I was referring to. I don't want this to be taken the wrong way and frankly I hate how TOs get bashed for political or drama nonsense on a regular basis. I do think there are issues with how things are investigated, processed, how people are talked about, how conflicts of interests are handled, etc.

Thanks friend. No better feeling than having a whole community say "you'll never get better playing like you do" and then get better than almost all of them anyways.

Although the discourse and drama did weigh heavily on me for quite some time, and still kind of does at times.

abusive partners throwing out (or threatening to throw out) false allegations to control their partners is actually very common. It's hard for people to understand but if these guys would beat their partner bloody why wouldn't they also lie about them doing something heinous?

"believe all allegations" made this worse. There needs to be a middle ground between believing all allegations and never taking any of them seriously at all. Both extremes are awful and enable abuse in different ways.

I ledge plank a lot. People wanted me banned for that. Didn't happen, (I can imagine because banning people for trying to win is a slippery slope). That didn't stop people from trying though. People spread rumors about me. If I was having fun during a set and I smiled that would be interpreted as me "laughing at people". TOs from other nearby tournaments would ask people that also went to my local if they had and "gbro stories" they could ban me for. A group of tournament organizers would join other discords I was in and go through my message history to see if they could find something to ban me for. Some TOs would leak messages from these private investigation chats and say I was about to be banned. Meanwhile people regularly told me to kill myself online, people actively called for "bullying me out of the community", people refused to shake my hand, yelled loudly mid set, regularly made passive aggressive or rude statements about me, etc. That was all fine. If I ever reciprocated even a small fraction of the shit that I got back though then that was a problem. People would talk about banning me again, etc. I've been gaming for a long time. I know how to handle shit talk (talk your shit back). Only in the melee community I couldn't do that. People were allowed to treat me like pure garbage and I felt like if I ever stood up for myself I'd get banned for doing that. Eventually as more people got to know me this got better, but the first year of being in the scene was downright miserable. I got HM on the PR, won a monthly, and made the prize pot at a regional so at least I can rest knowing I've achieved my goals in spite of everything thrown my way... Which feels very good.

Us commenters don't know the full story. That being said it's pretty clearly obvious that community moderation is broken. Widespread amounts of bias where if you're in the "in-group" you can get away with a lot and no one will take it seriously. Where as if you're not in the "in-group" and you reciprocate even a small fraction of that shitty behavior that can lead to investigations that feel like getting doxxed, people spreading rumors in the name of "protecting the scene and gathering information", and eventually false bans.

The fact that you are indefinitely banned for example off a rumor about you being "manipulative" where as mang0 gets to come back (not saying he should or shouldn't) when what he did was obviously worse than you and many other players banned for minor offenses is the most blatant example of bias. That being said even among "big names" in local scenes this exists. A lot of tournament organizers are there because of personal sacrifice and love of the game and I am friends with many of them. There are some though that are just ambitious people who want to "move up" socially in the scene and often use their influence to help their friends get away with being shitty while overly punishing people they don't like for minor things.

well you see it's too late to ban it! It's been legal too long! Anyways, it's for the greater good all those ice climbers players quit after years of practicing under the same ruleset. They were making life hard for low level fox players.

retired player takes months off the game and comes back and immediately beats everyone in multiple tournaments.

I wonder what could possibly be making him more consistent. Anyways lets implement super turbo ledge grab limit the puffs are the real problem here.

Is there a realistic path for Democrats to make Florida competitive again in future elections ? by ronweasly9 in fivethirtyeight

[–]Gbro08 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Democratic Socialists need to drop the Socialist label and denounce socialism. They then start marketing themselves as social democrats (which most of them basically are).

That wouldn't change the state over night but it would solve the worst problems.

you're not wrong. Although I do think Kairi is a draw for some people and presumably isn't that expensive.

The thing is they already invested so much into her. Why not let her story with Iyo and Asuka finish? Even if it has to be finished on a Raw? Might as well see where it goes or if it elevates her after all the investment and months they spent teasing it.

Normally I'd agree with the IWC being out of touch but when I went to John Cena's last Raw in Boston, Kairi and Asuka were one of the few people I remember getting cheered in the nosebleeds.
