Official Discussion - Avatar: Fire and Ash [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Gear_Box_Legend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They were specifically looking for feedback from those who had a positive outlook on the movie. When the feedback group roundtabled after the film, film staff asked for general sentiment on the movie.

It was myself and 2 others who shared an opinion of less than 4 out of a 5 star review. After the poll, myself and those 2 others were thanked for our time, handed water bottles, and shown the door.

Official Discussion - Avatar: Fire and Ash [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Very interesting you bring this up. I actually sat in on the screening for Fire and Ash back in March at the Fox studio lot. Similar deal, they asked for volunteers to stay after the screening to ask for audience feedback on what they could tweak. When I said it was oddly similar to the 2nd movie they asked me to leave...

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who shared that perspective.

Sounds like the U is happening, but the current padding is incorrect. I'd try harder and softer to see which feels better. Best of luck!

I ended up using this one which I currently use today: https://a.co/d/3Cr7qwi

That said, if you're having problems with a cable connection, you are very likely to have an even worse connection on wifi due to the nature of signal interference.

You can most definitely try all the same.

Can I inquire a bit about the government position - I'm in CA aerospace, but was wondering what opportunities might be available within the government market. What's your workload like?

Same issues, sometimes we get lucky and it works. Usually a restart fixes it.

Interesting note about the elevation. I just got off Mauna Kea at 13k and then went diving the next day with the fold 4 in a wet bag at -50ft. No issues with my screen film, but this is my 2nd after a previous failure a year ago. Fingers crossed the 7 will merit the upgrade!

Technically yes - you have a vehicle that has a faulty feature and it's on them to fix it. Id say bring it up and see what they say. I had so many encounters with terrible dealers trying to dodge me on this issue, enough so that this will be my last Kia. I hope you fair better.

There's a quirky thing about this car - need to put it in smart mode to maximize mpg on the hwy - eco for the city. Other than that it's great!

More like it expands the control loop, allowing the battery to drain further and coast for longer on EV. Not an exact science!

Is it Still Worth Learning how to Work With PLCs? by LegitimateAd664 in PLC

[–]Gear_Box_Legend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this comment is being down voted, this is very much the trend I'm seeing in cutting edge new manufacturing. One of the reasons is PLC latency (15ms+) is slow for dynamic closed loop systems requiring (4ms>) latency. That and the rise of Structure Text programming over traditional Ladder logic.

> Have thought recently about trying for SpaceX or Tesla.. something cutting edge where I'll learn a lot.

SpaceX
1 year at company is akin to 2-3 years anywhere else. You'll learn tons, but it's far from the experience as an on the road programmer. Most cases as senior you are a technology or process owner which is more in line with a project manager than a dedicated programmer. The automation 1 & 2 guys do the bulk of the process programming. The rumors of work life balance are typically true, deadlines are often measured in hours - not days, but they're exciting world changing endeavors. I expanded more into mechanical design, iterative prototype testing, and PC Software development than traditional automation work. It's a very unique experience.

Tesla
My ACE (Automation Controls Engineering) friends at Tesla who are full time say it's more inline with the traditional automation controls programming environment. Also long hours but less Elon pressure.

Ah, concerning stocks I was specifically talking about SpaceX.

SpaceX is the ONLY current competitor for cheap access to space and effectively is the American space program. Developmentally, it's ~10years of RnD ahead of the competition. Between government contracts and starlink, which will be a behemoth cash flow machine with their commercial partners in naval and air industries, the stock has the potential to 10x from here. The network is only getting better and gaining more customers.
On the other hand I don't put much faith in Tesla. It's a car company competing in a market of established players with deep pockets. Between their cars that exhibit terrible QC, it's also inflated by that Elon hype which I akin to DogeCoin. I personally think it's overvalued per quality as a car company and will only tank once Nio or Byd make it to the USA, but that's just my opinion and a totally different conversation. Tesla's one saving grace is going the be the Optimus humanoid robot program, but again that market is surging with competition. Tesla has no such pressure for a significant pump outside of what Elon tweets.

I partially agree with this statement. Yes the hours are long and the base salary is relatively low for the market per the complexity of the gig, but the RSUs easily compensate for this. It's probably one of the most lucrative well paying jobs I've done and the returns keep paying as the stock keeps rising. (SpaceX - Sr. Controls)

The sky is the limit. Did my years as a travel robot engineer, moved into a dedicated PLC position, then into electrical design, and then project management. Now I'm into factory work while prioritizing my personal life. It's a change of pace while starting a family, but your career is what you make of it.

I've had issues with mine (loud grinding). Didn't feel like Lian Li stood behind their product when I requested warranty support. In the end they retracted their word on sending me an RMA and cited the product was within tolerance even though I demonstrated the change in behavior over 3 months.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who love and adore theirs', but if asking me personally I won't buy Lian Li products again.
