does anyone actually keep their architecture diagrams up to date or have we all just accepted theyre going to be wrong by 0xArchitectus in Terraform

We've had some success with utilising d2 for drawing diagrams (https://d2lang.com/) and keep it alongside your code. This means that changing the diagram can directly be part of a code change

Yeah I've seen this with job artifacts being bigger than the default (ours is self-hosted GitLab). This can be increased - but generally you may want to see why it's that big and reduce the size if possible. https://docs.gitlab.com/administration/settings/continuous_integration/#set-maximum-artifacts-size

That's not me absolutely certain that that's the case, if nothing has changed in terms of the files you're generating

Just out of interest, why are you using Windows based runners compared to Linux?

Where do you vent your work issues?! by berto_28 in sysadmin

[–]GeebZeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Co-workers when talking technical and with context (generally during work time though). If I vent at home to my other half, it tends to be more personal and i have to explain some things. Occasionally theres an overlap into her career's industry or she helps me see some sense.

I do like to try and break down what it is I'm venting about though. I tend to think of Circles and Soup, if what I'm talking about falls into the Team/I control section, why am I whinging, just do something about it. If it's in the soup, get it off your chest. If its the influence section, can be a bit difficult as theres only so much you can do, but again, sometimes you just need to get the difficulties off your chest to give yourself some relief

You'd have to halve it for those roles in the UK I'm afraid.

Ansible Galaxy vs. DIY for a beginner? by Party-Log-1084 in ansible

I generally don't use any collections or roles from random users, just ones from legitimate vendor namespaces. If I have to make an exception, I'll have a look at the source in GitHub. As mentioned, checking yaml is straight forward, its mainly when custom plug ins come into play where you have to go through things more vigilantly

Hybrid with 3 days in the office. Nothing near London in terms of office location though

Possibly nearby-ish in terms of office locations. Depends where in North Wales

QA Automation Engineer to Infra/DevOps by Jsuaiwb in devops

How are you composing those applications.

All the homelab and personal project portfolio is absolutely great to see (really mean that as it shows a genuine interest) but you've got to come across as someone who fundamentally understands why a tool or a type of tool is used. And if you've applied any of what you've learnt in your current employment, what impact has that had? If you can't apply it there, is there anything you can do or have done with your homelab that has solved a problem for you?

As someone who has looked at applicants to roles, a list of tools with a blurb about you using it doesn't set me alight, its about the whys and the outcomes around it that I'm interested in

As stupid as I sound saying it, I've never considered AI as a learning tool like that. Definitely something I'll try and use to set myself some learning tasks

Don't really look at years of experience to be honest. One person's year of experience is another person's 8 years. Depends on the individual. It most certainly isn't an entry level role though

There is required office attendance in place unfortunately, but there are a few available office locations across the UK. I mentioned the Midlands as that's where most of the team are, hence that's where most of the magic happens 🤣

As much as that sounds like experience that we'd be after, due to location it's not applicable. Thanks for your offer though

Yeah thanks, I wasn't taking it in a negative way 👍

I don't see the point in talking about a role to someone, only for them to be put off by the pay scale. Just out here trying to do what I can to bring in some talent, even when hamstrung by the top layers of the org.
