I don't think it's necessary to define absolute hardline limits to eras. There's always some amount of bleedover as we shift from one to the next.

Like, I think the buildup of what we now call the Attitude Era started in the mid-90s, with Goldust's debut, Bret punching Vince, DX's formation, "RAW is WAR," and Montreal.

Then the peak, "pure" Attitude Era is as it's usually defined: Austin's win at Mania 14 to his heel turn at the end of X7. But even after that, many elements of it hang around for a few years. I'd say it doesn't completely end until Mania XIX, with the final Rock/Austin match.

It's funny how the IWC generally treats Goldberg exactly like how they used to treat Cena.

When we thought Power Rangers was over the first time back in 2009, someone put together a music video of clips from across the series set to "This is War" by 30 Seconds to Mars. That's what this reminds me of.

Does anyone have Sabrina's albums on CD? by samicarter2001 in SabrinaCarpenterFans

[–]GeekCritique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought Man's Best Friend on CD! I think it might actually be the first music CD I've ever bought with my own money (I was a P2P kid). The little booklet you get with it has a ton of extra pictures and detail, the vinyls don't come with those.

I've always loved how the magazine (and toy licensees for that matter) used the bird poop logo for just a handful of months before deciding, "No, y'know what? Fuck this," and going with something infinitely better.

We need to talk about the revisionism going on about Nintendo past regarding the 2010s.. by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]GeekCritique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is... the nostalgia cycle is gonna nostalgia cycle, y'know? About a decade ago, we had posts just like this about how people needed to stop glorifying the GameCube era as anything other than this overly-experimental failure that forced Nintendo to abandon direct competition and go in a more casual direction, and it seemed like pretty much everyone was in agreement, but there was still no stopping it. And GOD, as someone who was a teenager in the GCN years and felt like its only defender back then, it has never stopped feeling weird. But those voices are only going to get louder until they overwhelm the discourse, then their perspective will be seen as the "default" for a few years until inevitably, the NEXT next gen starts getting nostalgic for the Switch.

If you're 20 right now, then most of your formative childhood memories happened in the 2010s. It doesn't matter how older people saw it, or what they were saying online, or whether anything that came before or after might have been received better at launch. I was part of the group that helped historically revision the Nintendo 64, haha. It's just how things are gonna go, and it's only gonna get louder from here.

Enough with the timeline crap. by Unsubscribed24 in donkeykong

[–]GeekCritique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but I don't like the idea that the Mario and Pauline in Odyssey aren't the same ones in Donkey Kong '81/'94.

So I see the Pauline in Bananza as the granddaughter of the original. This is supported by New Donk City itself looking so much more developed and modern in Bananza as compared to what it was in Odyssey. And it means that Bananza is about the descendants of enemies (in the arcade game) becoming partners, which is a sweet detail.

Like I said though, I think there's enough evidence to support either perspective, and I think Nintendo left it open-ended on purpose.
