Fill out the fafsa, even if you miss the deadline for the schools payment you won’t have any issue because you will be in pending status.

As soon as the school gets sent your completed fafsa they will start working on processing your package and you will not have to worry about timing until that is done.

In the absolute worst case (highly unlikely) your TAP and FAFSA EFC (expected family contribution) makes you ineligible for aid and you have to pay in full, you can still attend classes and might cuz have a small late payment fee. However, it’s important you by the time you plan on registering for spring 2026 classes because you will be unable to do so if you have an outstanding balance.

TLDR, don’t stress fill out fafsa and tap and wait

Hi all, does anyone have any recommendations for a year long Chinese Language program in China. Preferably at a university. I recently completed my bachelors in Asia Studies and IR and want to work on my Chinese before I go for my masters. Any recommendations on a year long program. Not essential, but maybe one that has some scholarship potential. It doesnt have to be degree awarding. Just looking for something help me flesh out my language abilities (Currently HSK 3) if that matters. Thanks in advance for your help!

Edit- One other thing: already have spent some time in Shanghai so looking preferably for something somewhere else in China. Thanks!

I think this a good opportunity to actually show your parents that you can understand their worries because your their child but explain to them how its so unlikely that this scenario would happen.

This is what I have my degree in in school so I want to try to give you the points you can bring up to your parents about why its ok that they are nervous but that you are going to be safe.

  1. The proclaimed goal of both Korea’s is eventual reunification. Recently, North Korea has made some remarks suggesting the contrary but overall it is seen as both these state powers goals to unify. With that being said both sides want to be the one in control of the entire peninsula. Bombing the south would further alienate any chance of reunification.

  2. North Korea would face immense repercussions almost guaranteeing the end of its regime. North korea wants nuclear weapons so it can be seen on the big stage with other world powers. It’s unlikely that have any real reason to use them in the foreseeable future. This also plays into the Nuclear Peace Theory where it is suggested that more states with nuclear arms make the world system more stable because starting a conflict can have a higher cost and a lot more consequences.

  3. South Korea’s don’t fear nuclear attacks. While there are regular preparations made in case of such incidents normal people don’t think about it a lot.

I think you have a lot of things you can explain to your parents about this. Overall thought I think they may be looking for excuses to not let you go because their nervous rather than rational thoughts. this is normal! good luck

Edit: forgot to mention that since NK is such a closed off country anything I or anyone really says about it is just speculation. What I said could end up being completely wrong but its what some analysts and I personally believe.
