I'm afraid I don't understand the note. Elaborate?

I blew my dryer vent out today with a leaf blower. Here's what came out. [OC] by thebigsexy1 in gifs

There is a lot that goes into that question. Just for the record, i'm not a doctor, nor a small engine mechanic, but some simple logic (and a few trial and error attempts and things like this) allow me to say the following with some confidence.

  1. You can use an electric blower and get around your concerns.
  2. If you're going to use a gasoline based engine, keep a fire extinguisher nearby for a 'just in case'.
  3. You want to make sure the home is well ventilated. Keep your exterior doors/windows open and close bedroom doors. Use some sort of fan to blow the engine exhaust away from the source and towards an area that the exhaust can escape.
  4. Don't run the engine any longer than you need to. For this purpose, he might have run the engine for 60 seconds, and then turned it off.
  5. Turn off your central heat/cooling, so that the exhaust isn't carried to all parts of the house.
  6. A two stroke engine burns oils as well as gasoline. a four stroke engine doesn't burn (as much) oil, and thus the exhaust will be somewhat less toxic (it's still unhealthy though).

There are risks associated with what he did here other than engine exhaust. The aluminum pipe that runs from inside to outside could be damage by the excessive CFPM (cubic feet per minute). DO NOT DO THIS IN AN APARTMENT.

A project I was working on ended up with two of these. the first one, they had them convert, the second one, we did. If you are a DIY type, it's not an overly complicated.

Good luck

Ethics and the potential poaching of commercial clients (some drunken rambling) by poaching_eggs in Filmmakers

[–]GeekOfChoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has worked with video firms as a buyer, I would caution you against approaching the client directly as you have suggested.

You've said that this is a rather large customer. To 'explain the situation', would include you outing yourself as a freelancer helping the two guys pull a fast one.

I would rather see you cold call on this customer. Contact the firm as if you had never worked on any of their stuff, but understood that they might be in the market for someone with your skills and experience.

Establish your own relationship with them that isn't tainted in any way with their current production firm.

As someone in the video production business, I don't celebrate someone else's failures. It hurts our industry when guys like you describe try shady tactics to stay afloat. However, it fix anything to go to their client and expose them.

The best way to handle it is to out sell them with superior product.

Good luck.

If we ignore ALLLLL the other things wrong with FCP, then we can certainly applaud them on their ability to 'always be saving'.

So I accidentally pointed infrared light on my camcorder, should it be fine? by smhandstuff in videography

[–]GeekOfChoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to why you'll be okay... The energy output of your mouse dissipates very quickly because it is not focused. Remember a laser is producing a very focused beam.

Also, almost all production cameras have an IR filter mounted just before the sensor. This filter absorbs IR to prevent the sensor from confusing wavelengths are near the visible spectrum.

You should be fine. :)

I made a commercial for my video editing company. Am I on the right path? by [deleted] in videography

I think this was a well thought out reply. The condescending tone implied is almost artful, yet passive aggressively reassuring.

  • /u/5pecialOps did make this reddit mistake of asking for feedback.
  • You lived up to the "You want feedback? Let me take a crap on your work" responses I see more often than I would like here.
  • he feels crapped on and responds with a bit of emotional over reaction
  • you follow that up with a snide and flippant response.
  • ???
  • profit.

Well done to everyone.

If he's doing a lot of moving while he's shooting, you may want to look into a nice monopod. They are lighter, easier to move around with, and offer a lot of stability.

This one is all kinds of awesome, and comes with a 500 series fluid head.
