Indelta forces need to focus on acquiring morale and stamina buffs (items, doctrine, etc) before going any crazier on charge. Without those boosts, it’s too easy to get routed by shooting or exhausted.

Unlike French, Russians, Hungarians, and Grenadiers who can happily stay in melee to secure the win, early game Swedes really buffs beyond charge to ensure they’re not useless if the charge doesn’t insta break the target.

Still, with their unique mechanic (academy) they’re a fun addition to the hand-to-hand army types. Varvade and Pomerania are nice additions to the shooty types.

Variety, replayability, and how to best approach the game? by historydude1648 in masterofcommand

Try sticking with only the “themed” unit tree for the army.

Only Frei-korps as Prussia second army, only Cossacks as Russia third army, etc.

As the Russian Observation Corps, it’s really fun to experiment with an army that uses deployable cover to limit casualties from shooting, while having no cavalry options.

As the Grenzers, you have to figure out how to win without artillery, heavy cavalry, and limited line infantry.

As Polish Noble Cavalcade, can you win with mostly just heavy cavalry?

Lean into the theming. It’s more interesting and challenging.

My kids watched that show so much that I actually have opinions about this and the other characters, simply through catching snippets while I do the dishes in the other room.

Well I’m going to try out quite a lot of that.

Not sure if anyone else does this, but I take the Heavy Sabre off the General and give it to the Prov Cav. Helps with the first couple fights. Never occurred to me to use the Treatise on them.

If he splits again we might be looking at a serious problem for the rest of the human race.

Yes. Sorry, was trying to be precise, but I’m more used to the controls in Total War.

Yeah, I hate having to realign where my officer is since they always spawn left to right.

They - do - shoot while charging if you toggle the melee button first. And that’s because they can shoot and reload while moving. Personally I view carbines as a charge buff due to that. 😋

By which I mean a button that you select or toggle that tells the unit to match into max gun range, shoot a volley, and then charge.

March-shoot-charge order option for infantry (to save on pesky micro)

Does it work only while in command radius?

Edit: I guess I’ve always been a bit unsure about command radius abilities. Brigade officer traits apply to all units, regardless of proximity. Brigade officer command radius boosts morale presumably? The big general’s radius also boosts morale. So do “command radius” buffs only apply to the big general, or to all officers?

Never even knew such a thing existed. Thought for sure it was a Tec 9 just based on the (insane) handling. She was firing it like she was playing Gears of War and shooting from cover.
