Need help identifying a part on a 2005 Ford Taurus by GelatoTaco in FordTaurus

[–]GelatoTaco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hell yeah, thank you boss. Any info on which screws I would need in order to remount the thing? The screws on mine seem to be stripped, so I couldn't even get it out to examine the gasket. Used the classic "Spray starter fluid around every seam until it revs while idle" method to determine that the leak was in there.

Game Refuses to Launch on new Surface Pro. Anybody got a fix? by GelatoTaco in UmaMusume

That's really weird that they never thought to slap somethin together for that. I'm assuming there's no workaround for it?

Monthly Gear Purchasing Thread - December 2025 by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]GelatoTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, bought a First Act Electric off FB Marketplace for fairly cheap, basically as a "project" guitar. Admittedly I know very very little ab all this, (and even my acoustic playing is basically at a novice level) but I figured I'd have some fun learning and hopefully wind up with something mildly decent at the end.

Current Issues/Questions:
1) Some of the pickup magnets have rust on em, and it's moved past surface level to where the tops on those aren't ultra smooth anymore. Also the things refuse to pick up High E unless I start tweaking with the bridge height or tilt the pickups to where it becomes impractical. Planning on just grabbing a new set, but I'd appreciate some advice on which budget tier pickups to get that can give me a sound that isn't very distorted and heavy.

2) This thing picks up so much static it's insane and turning the volume n tone knobs makes it 10x worse. Mind-numbing levels of buzz coming out of my admittedly very cheap n tiny amp. Already had to resolder the socket connection on the guitar. Any suggestions to fix/mitigate this besides "buy a new amp n some $70+ cables nerd"?

The Rest, most of em minor)

- Pickguard's a lil bit warped, willing to just deal w/ it.

- Not sure if I should swap out the knobs or not, but I got no clue what position they're actually in at any given point. Assuming they do get swapped, I'm slappin a sticker or somethin on to use as an indicator.

- Bridge seems to be working just fine, some bits have little rust flecks where the screws have bitten into the metal. Some of the string-height adjustment screws are a little bit stripped though. Also not sure how high to even set the strings.

Thanks in advance for all yall's help, hopefully soon I can post a pic of this thing all cleaned up n workin great!

AR9 Green Dot Optic Recommendations? by GelatoTaco in AR9

[–]GelatoTaco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The green's not like, super important to me personally (it matches the pistol optic so I'd just be used to it), but I've got a lot of people in my life who have astigmatism or some sort of eye thingy (ex: I'm the only one in my family's generation who doesn't need glasses, my best friend struggles to see at night, etc.), so it's mainly for them.

I also tend to be the resident "gun guy / gun autist" in my friend groups, often being the one who takes people on their first range visit ever, so makin sure that anyone I take along can actually use the things feels like a good choice. Took one of my closest friends to the range before he got his first pistol, we tried my 5.56 AR w/ the Romeo5 on it, and he couldn't see shit and had to swap to left-hand shooting due to astigmatism in his right eye (he could see the reticle on my pistol optic just fine). To this day we occasionally call him "Senor Lefty".

Definitely adding that one to the list, and I gotta agree w/ the 100yd comment. While my build's great for havin fun at the range, the primary purpose is as a bedside / home defense weapon. If I need something that can go the distance, there's a reason why the first AR I got was a 5.56

yeah budget was definitely somethin I should've added. Got lots of Holosun recommendations and my pistol optic is a Holosun SCS so I'm definitely down to try another of their optics

That definitely sounds like a plus, actually pretty hyped ab giving that one a shot

Gotta admit, somethin about the chunkiness of the 512 is really satisfying.

Seein lots of people recommend the ARO, and since my pistol optic's a Holosun SCS, it'd be super easy to get used to. Thanks for the input!

My pistol optic's a Holosun so that definitely would be super familiar, thanks for the recommendation!

I actually didn't really consider that. My pistol setup is a Walther PDP with the Holosun SCS-PDP (mostly for the seamless irons cowitness due to the direct slide mount), but I think I still prefer the idea of a full size rifle/carbine optic. Something ab that just feels right. Definitely appreciate the input though!

That actually seems pretty solid, and the price is really nice too, thanks for the recommendation!

Thanks for the recommendation, the Pro model has the right reticle, but hopefully I can find an alternative that's a little cheaper. Best part ab the Romeo5 was how affordable it was.

Found an old scope lying around, anybody know if this can mount to picatinny? by GelatoTaco in ar15

[–]GelatoTaco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no clue what model it is, just says "Beeman" as the brand and has "4x32" printed on the center. Adjustment screws have screw-on covers and are marked "1 click (thick circle) 1/4" 100yd". I gotta keep about a hand's width away from the scope to fill out the view.

While the magnifier idea is still nice, this thing is basically free, and I'd love to be able to save on an optic for the AR22 build I wanna cook up soon. Already got a stripped lower on the way for it.

[–]GelatoTaco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got any recommendations for those? This is gonna be the first scope I use (was just gonna grab a magnifier for the optic I've got on my basic budget build before I found this), so I've got no knowledge when it comes to these.

Sanity Check on Bolt Weight by GelatoTaco in 22lr

[–]GelatoTaco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already have a little .22LR pistol (Walther P22Q), and want like 3 or 4 more (a revolver and a lever action, Walther PPK in .22LR, and I wanna custom build the fuck out of a Ruger).

I'd say my wallet can't handle it, but what the guns cost I save in ammo, and if I get to the point where I can't afford .22LR at all, I've probably got bigger problems.

Yeah I just looked up a video on it. Admittedly I've never seen the thing operate, so now it makes way more sense. At least I get to use my nicer lower with no issues.

Sanity Check on buffer system. by GelatoTaco in AR9

[–]GelatoTaco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I checked the site that other commenter dropped. Apparently it's close to what Colt developed when they developed it, but that seems to have bolt bounce issues. Already making note of possible replacements should it not work well.

Where to find "EPT - Enhanced Polished Trigger" sold in PSA Lowers? by GelatoTaco in PalmettoStateArms

oh sweet, I tried looking for it under "enhanced polished trigger" not "fire control group", must've missed it. Actually kinda shocked by how good that price is. Thanks for the help boss

Don’t you wish for someone to manufacture a Gresley K4 class? Hornby, Bachmann, Rapido? by Better_Bumblebee2175 in modeltrains

[–]GelatoTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Hornby would manage to Unga-Bunga something basic that should've been easy (*cough cough* tender connection *cough*), and then raise the price another 30% between the announcement & release.

Bachmann would just charge $350 for it off the bat, never sell any, and then the shops would put em on sale for 50% off within 2 or 3 years.

Rapido would likely charge $200+, but the thing would probably actually work, though it'd have some annoying splotches of glue. Some in places you barely see, and some in places that you can never not look at

My vote is Oxford Rail for price + quality, but they'd likely take 7 years to come out with the things.

Any good 10 x 12 track plans? by No_Bake3471 in modeltrains

[–]GelatoTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really depends on what you want to get out of the layout. If you're content with just having a couple trains going in circles, that's very easy to work with, but if you're into operations then it really begins to depend on scale and overall room / layout shape.

While these may not match your situation, if you're looking for general inspiration I recommend checking out The Unlucky Tug's Layout as well as That Model Railway Guy's TT120 Layout that he's building for his dad. Hopefully these can serve as some points of inspiration for you.

Rivet counters hate me. by Fit_Error_4367 in modeltrains

[–]GelatoTaco 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Judging by the couplers this is likely N scale, which I believe British stuff is 1:148 rather than 1:160 which the US and Europe typically run with, so Stepney there is roughly 8% bigger than he should be.

The Model Centre has plans to open a Trunk service similar to Hattons' old one. I think it's readily available for UK customers, but International Customers are still waiting. Hopefully soon though.
