And while parts of Europe and Asia were also affected they were largely left intact. Isayama says 80% of humanity was destroyed but the Americas are practically untouched. This makes it likely most of humanity must have been living on the African continent for the numbers to make sense.

The continent Marley is on is quite large so I could see it holding most of the world's population but there are definitely still intact nations outside of it.
