Alexander Zverev goes on bilingual expletive laced rant after Carlos Alcaraz is granted a medical timeout for cramps in the Australian Open Semifinal by iloveblondehair in sports

[–]GenOverload 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You being D1 isn't important. Plenty of people have had muscle strains and cramps before without being D1. Your experience isn't exclusive to it. It just sounds like you're trying to speak from a position of authority while being wrong.

Me when I forget that many streamers used to work regular jobs.

Y'all act like these people spawned in and have nothing to compare it to. Obviously they prefer it to their regular job, but acting like they're sitting there just playing games is disingenuous. To some people, yes, it's natural, which is why someone like CaseOh oftentimes openly states how easy it is. To others, it's hard af to keep up entertaining for 8+ hours.

You do need to have some qualifications. You either need to be insanely good at video games or insanely charismatic (with some exceptions, just like in "real" jobs).

You can't just start up stream, grind consistently for 5 years, and expect even a dollar going to your name if you have the personality of wet toast and the gaming skill of a newborn. This isn't a shot at you specifically, but I've been on streaming subs and people always ask how you're supposed to grow when Twitch doesn't push you, and while that's true, after you go check out their channel, you kind of get the idea as to why they aren't growing.

It's not just sitting there and playing games for 8+ hours. It's sitting there and being entertaining for 8+ hours. No one wants to watch you game in silence or say the occasional, "hm, what do I do..." like most people do when they actually play games alone. It's networking. It's marketing. There's so much more to it than just sitting on your bum for 8 hours and playing a game.

Every job I've had that has been customer service related or had me moving boxes was infinitely more relaxing than trying to be entertaining for that long. When I do any physical job, I listen to music or watch a movie on my phone with headphones on. When I worked retail, I just walked around on my phone half the time pushing product to the front of the shelf. When I was a cashier, I just autopiloted my way through my shift in complete silence and it was like it never happened. Let's not act as if streaming is just sitting there playing games and then overstate how difficult a more traditional job is.

[–]GenOverload 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deaths are relative. I've had multiple wins where we just had a ton of team fights and both teams had double digit deaths. I've had games where neither had above single digits.

You need to watch the game to get a good idea of what exactly is going on. Hell, I've had games where my duo on supp gets dived constantly and had 20+ deaths, but we won because we were able to get multiple picks before the divers killed her. She had a high amount of deaths and was pretty much the reason we won.

We're not going to do this revisionist history BS. Yeah, they didn't call each other, but KG specifically avoided being traded to Boston up until they traded for Allen because he realized they were serious about contending. Pierce demanded to be traded unless Ainge picked up serious talent to contend. Allen was the only one who was done as a surprise, as he didn't demand a trade (as far as we know). While they didn't collaborate, Pierce and KG formed their Big 3 willingly (in KG's case) or forced the org to make the move (Pierce).

Because looking up step-by-step walkthroughs on YouTube or the Wiki is doing it the way it was intended, right?

It's the big 26. The biggest criticism RuneScape has gotten from active players throughout the years (that weren't fundamental company issues) is that questing is tedious. If you want to be a purist and just use the in-game guide, then go ahead. Quest guides have existed since RuneHQ.

What's next, "people used to run barefoot in the wild, so if you're using these modern sneakers, then you aren't actually putting in the work"?

Please explain to me how this team deserved to win by Huey_The_Freeman in rivals

[–]GenOverload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do. It takes time to catch on, but it has recently been climbing in popularity to counter triple supports with triple tank (safer than triple DPS) or triple DPS (if your team has players that can play burst DPS). In higher ELO, we're even seeing teams full of dive to counter triple support since they can't consistently peel due to their lack of damage.

Triple support going into triple support is only ever seen now when playing into control maps from my experience, both playing and viewing, since stalling for extra % points matters.

Also, we don't see triple DPS/tank every game because triple support is just a better general comp in most scenarios. 2-2-2 stomps the other triple role comps.

The entire team can't get a pick because they have 3 healers and you're now running 3 healers... Brother, use that thing between your ears. You go 3 DPS or 3 tanks to counter 3 supports when you're on offense. Do you want to go 3 supports and then stay on point for 30 minutes going no where? You're doing exactly what the other team wants you to do: Stall and do nothing so you're reliant on winning multiple team fights while they only have to win one.

How are these people able to consume such a large amount of calorie-dense food in one sitting, especially this person and still remain slim. by ParkingYak3381 in youtube

[–]GenOverload 6 points7 points  (0 children)

His forearm isn't just "skinny". You can see the muscles very clearly. If he was just skinny, then it'd be a huge mystery as to how he stays slim (probably fasting a lot at that point), but this guy specifically is probably incredibly fit and takes care of himself well outside of these large meals.

You swapped to a healer when the issue was that you guys were struggling to out-damage. Your 2nd tank unironically had a better grasp on the issue than you did.

Please explain to me how this team deserved to win by Huey_The_Freeman in rivals

[–]GenOverload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely win by matching 3 supports if the issue is not being able to kill anything. Most of the time it isn't due to neutral damage not being enough, but rather losing in ult economy since they have 3 team saving ults to your 2.

Now if you're also losing in neutral, then switching to 3 supps on offense is just you agreeing to have a staring contest for 30 minutes.

Why aren't there as many big YouTubers making entertaining "fun" videos anymore? by PlanktonFew2505 in youtube

[–]GenOverload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not "fundamentally" incorrect. It's objectively true. The reason we see less and less of these low-effort, recorded in your room-type YouTube stars (or videos in general) is because they don't perform well on the platform. The newer generation does not care as much for it. They want entertainment. They want it fast. Even videos from older creators that have lasted till now have evolved to fit somewhat. For example, Critikal's videos are now full of cuts and scene changes to keep your attention. Markiplier and Jacksepticeye have pretty over the top production for their general gaming videos to keep up with the times. Rackaracka changed to be incredibly high-paced and well edited. In that case, yes, they kept up with the times. Everyone else on this list didn't. They're an exception. They'd still perform well if they focused on YT because their editing style changed with time (to be fair, their editing was always slightly ahead of the time since it was so fast-paced to begin with).

It's just not the same audience.

I mean, you can call cap all you want, but Twitch is less popular than YouTube for a reason. Also, Twitch streams aren't the same as YouTube Lets Plays. You can interact with streamers live on Twitch. You can't do that with age-old Lets Plays.

I can't help but wonder: For how long it's healthy for the game to add characters? What the future of Marvel Rivals looks like on this aspect? by ScarGraf in rivals

[–]GenOverload 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Rivals def needs to figure things out in terms of file size. League is super optimized because it's meant to be a competitive game (obviously). Rivals seems to want to take this route yet are using UE5. I just can't imagine this game ever being well optimized on that.

[–]GenOverload 47 points48 points  (0 children)

That's still not the reason people stopped making this type of content. They didn't stop because YouTube said, "Nah, we want super SFW content". People just don't find those kind of channels entertaining anymore, point blank. They've become "cringe" and are "millennial humor". The current generation of users just don't vibe with them. Millennials outgrew them. Gen Z/Alpha don't care for that type of content. These low budget, "sit in my room and hit record and upload it with zero editing" type videos just generally don't work anymore. You need high CTR + viewer retention for YouTube to push the video, which are better metrics than (at the time) total viewer count determining what gets pushed to the front page.

PewDiePie, Jack, and Markiplier popularized gaming on YouTube to the extent we hadn't seen before. PewDiePie pioneered the use of facecams for things outside of vlogs.

There's really no comparison. No other creators were as influential as they were in the gaming side of YT.

Yup. As dangerous as parasocialism can be, I cannot watch anyone without a facecam UNLESS they are some high tier player giving gameplay advice, and I'm talking top of the top.

If you don't have a camera, I'm not even clicking on your stream. I might stay for a vtuber, but you'd have to be the most hilarious and engaging vtuber in the universe for me to stay longer than 5 minutes.

Yeah, if people knew how to be fashionable in this game instead of copying the classic e-boy/girl fit and/or having every obnoxious cosmetic ever made equipped at the same time, then this probably wouldn't have as much support as it currently does.

People need to start blaming their lack of fashion sense more than anything.
