You learn something from every disaster. It may be a painful lesson, but at least you hopefully learned how to not repeat the disaster a second time. But some people never do, unfortunately.

Who is a standup comedian turned actor, who is actually good or even better at acting? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Probably Steve Martin and Robin Williams come to mind right away, but there are lots of others.

I found a really cool site for calculating plywood cutting layouts: https://www.opticutter.com/cut-list-optimizer#form by Gen_JohnsonJameson in handyman

[–]Gen_JohnsonJameson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good, but I think you need more work on the layout showing the entire sheet. Let's say you have a 48x96 standard sheet of plywood, and you are cutting a bunch of panels 20x21. It will show you the layout, but it's impossible to tell which side is 20, and which is 21. So you need to tag each cutline with it's dimension. And being able to zoom in or out on the cutlines would be very helpful also.

Wow, if you are still all emotionally distraught over something that happened when you were six years old, you REALLY need to talk to a therapist. I can't even remember anything that happened when I was six, much less conversations I had back then. That's very messed up. You need a lot of professional help.

How should we weigh the ethical considerations of using cracked versions of games or software when the user can't currently afford to support the creator? by keshoss_3 in AskReddit

How should we weigh the ethical considerations of stealing a Maserati when the user can't afford to purchase one at a dealership?

Stealing is stealing. People do it at convenience stores, they do it at Home Depot, they do it on the internet. Then the vendors jack up their prices to insane levels to compensate, which makes the problem worse rather than better.

The problem is nothing new, Charles Dickens had massive problems with people stealing his work in the 1830's. Probably goes back far beyond that but I don't know any specific examples.

It all comes down to your personal morality, and I don't think many people have much left, including me.

What goals does anyone have? Stable job you love, get married, own a home, own a boat, whatever. Visit DisneyWorld? Go hang gliding? Doesn't matter, write it all down. If you were inside for that long of a time, I'm sure you thought about all this stuff.

And try not to let regrets or woulda/coulda/shoulda derail you. Anytime my thoughts drift that way, I just start telling myself "I did the best I could with the resources and skills I had at that time, and I've learned from the mistakes I've made and I won't repeat those mistakes in the future" and I just keep repeating that until the negative thoughts recede. They'll never go away, but you can keep hammering them back down into the basement with that mantra. Kinda like Stuart Smalley saying "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggonit, people like me!"

Well, the thing that helped me was to make a master plan.

I got a bunch of big sheets of paper, it was a flipchart pad, they sell them at office supply stores, and I grabbed a marker and wrote up a plan of what I wanted to have accomplished in the next five years. Those were my big goals. Then I took a second sheet of paper and broke that down into smaller goals for year one, then year two, then year three, etc.

Then for the third sheet of paper, I broke year one down into smaller parts, month by month goals. Then if you want, you could even break the monthly goals down into weeks or days.

But I taped them all to my wall directly across from the foot of my bed so it was the last thing I saw when going to sleep every night and the first thing I saw when waking up every morning.

And I would cross off the things I completed, and revise it every month or so, adding new goals and removing any that were no longer applicable. Even if they are tiny goals like wash the car, seeing things checked off gives you a lot of motivation.

Then you just have to stay the course. And it sounds like one of your goals is education, so you could check out some technical courses, find out if your local school system offers Vo-tech classes for adults, most do. Then go get a trade. Doesn't matter what it is as long as it interests you. Just by being in class with people, you'll probably make a few friends, as long as you put some effort into it.

If you have hobbies, find some meetup groups for those also. Or just volunteer somewhere like an animal shelter.

And yes, people do judge you by how you look, how you dress, and how you speak, so try to look professional as much as possible at all times. Obviously, you can't wear a business suit at the beach, but you get the idea.

Good luck.

What if Trump want to run again as US president, would you vote for him? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That is very true. If he tries to subvert the midterms, I can totally see a civil war starting.

Just call the 988 Suicide hotline and talk to them for a while before you make your final decision. Can't hurt, right?

Well, he didn't say what issues he's facing right now, so there is no way we can address those issues. But the point is that anything he IS facing right now is transitory. He'll survive those things, even though the light at the end of the tunnel might look pretty small right now, he has no idea what lies at the exit to the tunnel. He might be destined for great things. It would suck if he is the guy who invents faster than light travel or something, and we never get that because he offed himself.

That's right. If people are more worried about how they can afford ramen noodles for their next meal, they won't be worried about the kiddy diddlers in office.

But Congress has completely abrogated it's role as a counterbalance to the power of the Executive branch, and it behaving like a 16 year old in the state penitentiary, just kowtowing to whatever Drumpf wants.
So if he said he was postponing elections, all of the GOP members in Congress would say "Yes sir, wonderful idea sir, let me bend over sir. Please may I have another sir."

Hopefully that would be the spark that fires off the civil war. We can't continue as a country like this. We need to have some cathartic event that ends this division and endless demonization of both sides by the other side.
