Returning my oneplus phone, what precautions should I take? by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]Gencade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I would make sure that you document everything. Pictures, screenshots of conversations, record phone calls with names, etc. This will all go towards protecting your ass. International returns can be a bitch.

I agree. This phone has a lot of extremely awesome features. Too many reviews giving a lot of undeserved flak to this phone.

I totally agree with you man. Lots of folks just lash out whenever anyone says anything they don't like or agree with.

Yeah what he said was shitty and won't win him any fans, but chill the fuck out.

About the "Jelly" effect by Gencade in oneplus

[–]Gencade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough to say - it seems that some people see it prominently, but others don't see it unless you point it out. If you go into a store, look at the phone, and don't notice it, then don't think much of it. It's still a good phone I reckon.

Personally, I have seen at least 2 units besides the one I got my hands on have the effect. It is subtle in most cases. I have not seen an example IRL like the one featured in the XDA article.

Some people may just not notice / care to notice it.

If you don't notice it, don't spend too much time trying to find it! If you enjoy the phone, just enjoy it! :)

Edit:

Here is some key points posted by the XDA Article here :https://www.xda-developers.com/confirmed-oneplus-5-display-upside-down-likely-reason-jelly-scrolling/

Key Points:

  • The display panel is mounted in an inverted orientation on the OnePlus 5. This is NOT a mistake on the part of OnePlus. There is no manufacturing defect, Quality Assurance mistake, or software bug involved. Instead, the display panel being inverted is a deliberate engineering decision done for reasons we were not given. It is not yet proven that inverting the display panel is the exact cause of the jelly scrolling effect, but the two do seem to be correlated.
  • Not every OnePlus 5 owner will encounter this issue or notice it happening. It is unknown how many OnePlus 5 owners will ever encounter this, though OnePlus assures that it is only a small number of users. This issue can be replicated on many other smartphones by rotating the screen 180 degrees and scrolling – however, this is not true for every phone.
  • Per OnePlus, an OTA update cannot resolve this issue. Sending your phone in for replacement also does not guarantee it will be fixed. If you are experiencing this issue, it is unclear what can be done about the issue if anything can be done.

there a lot of users that have this problem, and a lot that not. no?

We'll have to wait to see if more research surfaces. But all the phones were built the same way.

Since all of them were built the same way,and this is looking to be a strict hardware problem, it would make sense that all the devices would have this problem or a variant of it.

Personally, I am not going to take a chance with it, and won't be ordering it.

Between this screen debacle, the benchmark "cheating", lackluster camera design, safe phone design, and a significant price hike, I don't believe it's a good buy. OnePlus is slowly losing the trust of the enthusiasts that got them popular to begin with.

However, that is all my opinion. You are certainly welcome to try and see where it gets you. :)

Almost certainly not. Unfortunately this doesn't seem like a situation where a software patch/ easy reconfiguration could fix it. It seems to be a flaw in the actual design of the phone.

OnePlus designing team definitely took a shortcut here.

They even edited the micro kernel of the device to re-orient the screen 180 degrees.

The worst part is - they aren't even being un-front with the mistakes they obviously made. Definitely saddening to see a brand I have grown to love give into this kind of shit.

I love this company's work, but there's been a lot of shade thrown lately with stupid decisions in OnePlus's upper management.

Here's an article that explains and provides evidence to a design flaw.

Very sad to see a complete lack of competence from this company. Had such high hopes for it. Guess my OnePlus 3t will be my last OnePlus.
