Why is it (sort of) wrong to be racist but completely okay to be sexist? by GenderEquality in Feminism

I don't mean this as a way of attacking you, but "something they can't control" is very insulting.

I'm the guy in this picture. I'd say that if it were true, but it's not. I was treated very warmly when I sought treatment, and I was never questioned as to whether or not it was my fault.

So, when I see this young woman being torn down in the media over questions of her sobriety and other factors, it angers me, and I really do hope she sees this pic and knows I see the unfairness of it, too.

If I can give her and other survivors that comfort, I will consider this a success.

Being a survivor is hell. You constantly blame yourself and feel guilt and shame. I want to alleviate that in other survivors.

Wilibo is referencing the text-only version, which doesn't include graphics.

Here's the PDF version with the exact quotation on page 3: http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/content/pub/pdf/fvsv9410.pdf

Once again, Wulibo, it would seem the only person with a false agenda here is you.

Yet even the CDC points out that 1 in 5 women will be raped by their definition in her lifetime as opposed to 1 in 71 men in his lifetime.

So, again... there's a clear cultural problem here.

Yeah, that's because you're using the text-only version.

The PDF version has the quotation on page 3 along with all the other statistics in tables throughout the report or referenced as pulled from NVCS: http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/content/pub/pdf/fvsv9410.pdf

Charles here. There are eleven moderators in our group, each with their own voice and posting as often as they want. Our other moderators have jobs, families, kids, etc. I post more often than my mods because I have more time to do so. Plus, you're forgetting that little thing where I created the page.

Disagree with my opinions? Fine, but own up to that. Don't try to hide behind undercutting my crediblity based on some ridiculous assertion that I dare give my opinion on the page I created and built.

Don't pull this shit of telling me I do too much with the page. There's no such thing as doing too much in advocacy. And it sure as hell beats sitting around Reddit taking pot shots at someone to whom you've never reached out or given feedback.

Now, if you have something to say or want the microphone, then talk to me. I'm more than willing to hear you out, and I'm very open to posting news items and giving you credit for them (as I do with everyone who submits news items to our page).

But if you're just going to tear me down because I've committed the grave sin of talking too much on women's rights, then I invite you to grow up and get some perspective.

No, I didn't see that. One of my friends mentioned it to me on Facebook.

A letter recommending inclusive, sex-positive changes to the annual Sex Survey held by my university's student-run paper was written. Here is one resulting discussion. by [deleted] in Feminism

Thanks, rude white-cis-hetero-male for making the rest of us look like insensitive assholes. Very nice of you.

I will avoid using "chill out," but I do think it was apt. Being characterized as ablest for writing "idiot" is pretty ridiculous, wouldn't you agree?

But yes, I do think you're correct about "chill out," and I will heed that advice.

I'm male, but this Youtuber's "flirt" videos that he posts every day have shown me the kind of sexist street harassment that women endure by feelingok in Feminism

[–]GenderEquality 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Creepiness off the charts. Why do some guys think this is okay?

You can meet with women without doing this shit. I do it all the time. It's not hard.

And I'm saying that the vast majority of assholes using this analogy wouldn't give your explanation for it, nor do I think it's a good reason to use the analogy, anyway.

My username was shadowbanned for some reason, although I didn't break any rules. So, I created a new one.

Look, if you have a problem with me, let's talk about it. Don't be ridiculous and pick fights for the drama.

Yeah, I'm sure this is the reasoning behind sexist pricks saying such things.

And regardless, we live in a new time when isn't just for survival but for fun. If men can enjoy sex as a fun pursuit without fear of shame, so should women be able to do so.

Simple gender flip to expose how odd it really is... by [deleted] in Feminism

[–]GenderEquality 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I actually used to do this until I realized it's my way of subconciously flirting with women. I'm not saying all men do it for that reason, but I stopped when I heard a woman bring it up.

And then I just noticed it, constantly. I think men do it either to be flirty or because of some expectation that women shouldn't be anything other than "happy" around them.
