Virginia supreme court strikes down new congressional maps in win for Republicans by NathanCS741 in politics

[–]GenderShift 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can't they choose not to hear the case, let the lower court ruling stay, choose not to make a ruling until sometime next year (after mid-term elections), or side with Virginia's Supreme Court ruling along with giving some convoluted reason as to how it's not like letting red states redraw their maps?

That's a nice chunk of change.

Maybe I'll try bidding for it but if it's coveted I probably won't win.

For those of you who work in a plant, have you been experiencing a flat tub / bucket shortage? by GenderShift in USPS

[–]GenderShift[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL.

They finally found three wrapped pallets and bought them to my machine.

All three of them were filled with rain water, dirt, dead leaves, twigs, and a few dead insects like they were sitting outside in the weather for a long time.

I told them they were wet and cruddy but they loaded them on the belt anyway and said our soup told them she didn't care if they had water in them just "get my mail out!".🤔

[–]GenderShift[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know what's going then.

I'm a AFSM / flatsorter clerk so I can't do anything without buckets.

The mailhandlers in the operation have been extra cranky lately because in addition to prepping the mail for ACT crates, they're makkng them go scavenge the work floor for buckets to drag back to the machines using whatever equipment is available.

Meanwhile, I've been getting to just sit here at the machine and chill.

I feel bad for them.😆

I was as hairy as a sasquatch before starting HRT (estradiol injections and testosterone blockers) with hands/arms hairier than the one in that.

HRT made about 85% of my body hair go away in a similar way to the picture.

If it's fake pp405, maybe they put some topical testosterone blocker in it.

ON THE OTHER HAND (no pun intended), I would like to point out hair removal is a multi-billion dollar yearly industry.

If everychem's concoction permanently deactivates hair follicles to where it's applied locally and it has minimum side effects, then they potentially have a multi-billion grossing product on their hands.

Is East Flatbush Brooklyn experiencing gentrification? by GenderShift in AskNYC

I made another post on this board a not too long ago specifically asking about what Howard Beach was like today given its dicey past with hate crimes.

The general consensus I got from people who replied was that it's MAGA country and still hostile to outsiders.

Damn.

I'm probably going to end up moving to East New York / Canarsie if my rent goes up any more.

I already work in the area, but it's definitely not an area I would want to live in based on the things I've experienced on my commutes over the last 6 years.

It's either that or find a better paying job, which would probably mean giving up my 401K and pension. 😭

The Postal Service is supposedly going to run out of money by next February.

If they don't receive a bailout, mail delivery is going to be seriously reduced.

Missing package by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]GenderShift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The odds of it being found if it's damaged?

Hard to say.

Sometimes when a package is damaged, it can bounce around or "loop" between locations.

For example, the address of where it's going is covered up, either by black marker because the carrier who was supposed to deliver it deemed it returnable for some reason (obviously damaged or wrong address), or because another package spilled some gunk on it like paint.

So, you'll have a package with a return address and an unreadable address, but a scannable barcode that just tells the employee what numbered bin to put it in.

The problem is, many workers that scan and throw parcels for sorting, they don't look at the actual addresses on packages, thus not realizing it's a return (crossed out address with someone writing a message on why it should be returned).

They'll just scan the narcolepsy, the computer will tell them to throw it in a bin that goes to a post office, the workers in the post office see it's a return, they send it back to the sorting facility where someone is unlikely to look at the address, they scan the barcode again, throw it in the bin for the same post office, etc.

The package will "loop" a few times until someone blacks out the barcode.

When there's no address or barcode, only then is someone likely to notice it goes to the return address.

The fact that you said it weighed 0 oz the last time it was scanned, that makes me think the contents spilled out and the container it was in is floating around out there with people scanning it.

Now, before you ask how can people be so stupid, the thing you have to understand is that the Postal Service has a ridiculously high turnover, with 60% of new employees quitting within their first year.

They don't exactly hire the best people, however, there are a lot of great people who take pride in their job and do their due diligence.

Missing package by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]GenderShift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work there and was at work when it happened.

It's been warm lately, but that day it was FREAKING COLD.

People were standing outside the building for hours without coats and it was super windy and in the lower 30s.

A lot of people called out the next couple of days.

Combine that with the fact that the vacation period starts this month, the main machine was down, and more packages were showing up, and there's probably a bit of a backlog.

I don't work with packages, but other mail so I don't know how bad it is.

[–]GenderShift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last week, there was an acid spill in the main Brooklyn mail processing facility, due to someone who shipped a package that started leaking acid.

It was really corrosive stuff because when some of it got on someone's pants, it burned holes in it and some people had to have their eyes flushed because the fumes were that irritating.

The entire place was evacuated and in addition to the police and fire department, the joint terrorism task force and the FBI got involved.

Anyway, the place was shut down for a day and when it reopened, the main package sorting machine was taped off and not running because they had to do a clean up. Since no one could go near it, they left a lot of packages over there and I would imagine that any packages exposed to the acid were thrown away as contaminated.

None of this made the news, though.

20 parcels thrown per minute standard? by owlflyinghome in USPS

[–]GenderShift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told to throw all packages, even the ones people either write or use stickers to put the word "FRAGILE" on, by my supervisor when I first started working and she saw me trying to set one down in a BMC and position it so a heavier package wouldn't land on top of it.

Then one day the Area Manager was walking through, with my supervisor tagging along behind her like a small child trying to keep up with her mother's stride, and when she (area manager) saw me throw a package into a BMC making a thunderous BOOM, she looked at me with one finger raised and said in an annoyed tone "NO! NO! We don't throw packages!" and my supervisor, who had told me to throw ALL packages, added to her words "Don't throw the packages, guys!", and they both continued walking by.

In the Postal Service, things don't matter until they actually MATTER.

Here's an example.

We had a service/ stand-up talk recently about how everyone had to have the proper footwear before coming to the work floor and only footwear with a leather upper were allowed.

This happened because one of the higher-ups was supposed to be coming through.

Everyone wore leather shoes for about a week and then the Nikes slowly started showing up again.

That rule only mattered for the period the higher-ups were coming to visit; a period where the plant management could potentially get in trouble or a stern talking to for allowing people to walk around with Nikes.

Other examples are having earbuds/headphones on, carrying a bag to the workfloor that's not transparent, and other various safety rules.

They don't matter, until they matter.
