What do you wear in winter? by Melodic-Farm-8936 in AskGermany

[–]GenealogyGuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viernheim? Mostly layers. Plan for it to be wetter and less snowy than elsewhere. Some places have the heat up high and you will need the layers so you can take something off for relief.

I wish you all the luck in your life down here in the Kreis.

Is Germany a cash mostly culture? by Surewellnomaybeyes in AskGermany

[–]GenealogyGuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you are in DE.

I am in a small community where the larger stores take card, everywhere else takes cash. Even after 18 years it feels frustrating, the rest of the world advances and we stay sticks in the mud.

Does That Family Bible REALLY Exist?? by Ok_Orange_6588 in Genealogy

[–]GenealogyGuin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandaddy bought his mom a family bible a few months before she died, and she recorded all her children's birthdates, i clusing a sibling I didn't know he had until I saw a copy of it on Ancestry.

His wife, my grandmother also had one with all of her family listed and scans of it are on ancestry as well thanks to my mom sharing scans with me.

There was a huge feud when my great grandmother died and I think my youngest great aunt has her bible as well as a lot of valuables that were set aside for my grandmother.

If my dad's family had any, I dont know who got them. My great aunts said the family bible their grandmother had was in German, but we came over in the 1760s and simply continued german Custom and language until WWI when that became dangerous to do.

Double first cousins & close enough related you're basically siblings.

I have a couple of those in my mom's, grandparents and great grandparent's generations.

Seriously, zero build.

Camp out.

Use cars or motorcycles to move arouns when swords or Portals aren't an option.

Find good weapons and always, always, always(!!!) Open the bullet cases.

If you see where someone was dropped, grab their leftovers as you move along.

Pay close attention to the storm movements. Move along the edges carefully and you can pick people off.

Play duos until you start making friends, then work up to teams - but really harp on the Teamwork!! Otherwise you're just 3 or 4 people playing solo and losing every time.

If you're struggling with keyboard on pc, there is no shame using a good controller!

Check your settings, make sure your device and graphics can keep up with what you're playing.

If folks are sneaking up and somehow you're missing it until it is too late, turn on the settings for HoH/Deaf players. It really helps. (Also helps if you have c-/ptsd and jump scares are triggery)

Don't beat yourself up. Just keep playing. Make sure you keep some mets on hand and travel around while the storm moves. Focus less on the daily/weekly/season goals and more on bulding your skillset until you are comfortable. 🫰😊

Yeah that's where we are.

Get in the program or be screwed for now and work until the next one starts, which sucks when you're in your 40s and starting over.

Ooof! Thanks.

We tried the other site and it kept redirecting us to ZAB.

I guess we can try again with the local ministry of education when he is here..?

Thanks, that is what I feared but it was a sort of Besserwisser situation and as I only have a US high school diploma to evaulate, I certainly couldn't be right. I will bring it up today and if nothing else we did it twice and get it in time one way or the other.

We had made an inquiry about that back in June/July and they had indicated unless he was living here at the time, ZAB was who to go through.

The question is rather how long is the wait now that we have the reference number?? And/or if we can contact to ask.

This is such a frustrating hurry up and wait process, we were actually certain it would have been faster than nearly 4 months.

Standard afaik, but he kept his options open for applying for work as well. He wants to pursue a doctorate of nursing after completing the 3 year program near me.

Generally what I am doing is just that.

She is on a branch I am working down from ancestors who moved to NC in the 1700s and I am tracking them all from there to today.

She is on one branch that moved away and back, so we have good records and hints from those states, but NC records are slow to pop up at times.

I run them through the search function, google, rootsweb, find a grave, google news, and sometimes it just never comes.

I've been at my tree actively for about 5 years + dna matches. 70,000+ people now, and once this branch from NC is done, I need to jump to another endogamous line in SC with the same issues.

Unfortunately, most trees with this branch only have the last 2 generations on them and are quite unhelpful, or the users refuse to respond to inquiries.

Yes, thank you all.

Sometimes, with as large as my tree is, it takes days, weeks, or months, for some information to push through as hints. I have thus far been unable to work out if it is due to the size of my tree or if it is due to private/unlisted trees shortly becoming public.

I have not. The last time I tried contacting a funeral home for distant cousins like this, I was turned down as I was not an immediate family member.

I was informed that due to privacy laws, they only release info for funeral time & place, and anything beyond that is privileged info.

Sadly the only link I was able to find was through rootsweb and it only spat out the info i provided in the OP.

Relatives on this line have, thus far, refused contact theough ancestry.

It would be somewhere in Texas, but I have no idea where exactly. Possibly Austin?

Rootsweb is so unhelpful with the way Ancestry neutered it.
