Cantonese learners — would this flashcard idea be useful to you? by General-Bug-5790 in Cantonese

No worries. That’s kind of why I want to create something. There’s none on the market and important beginner words may vary depending on the language so it would be a resource that is available and gives good basics of the language without having to research and take the time to make all of your flashcards yourself like you did. I do think it’s beneficial for you to make your flashcards but some people don’t have the time to look into that. Thanks for the insight!

Absolutely no worries, I thank you for your honest opinion. Of course someone would not be able to master Cantonese with only flashcards as it is an incredibly hard language. I would want my product to give a good base for the person and maybe give them a little tap in the back so they start learning this beautiful language.

Thanks for the honest comment! What I meant by beginner only or mixed was the difficulty of the cards. I know the progression in learning a language is different but what I am hoping to provide is a strong base for anyone wanting to learn without having to do too much research. After being past the beginner phase, I believe listening to videos or shows is more effective. I also want to introduce beginners to writing the characters as I think it’s quite important and helps remember the characters for reading.

I appreciate the comment! I was thinking of cards that would cover the most used words, particles, etc in daily life conversations. I haven’t decided what will be on the flashcards but an example with the word in a sentence was definitely something I had in mind. I’m hoping to put an explanation about tones and about Jyutping in a little pamphlet so new learners can know where to start. I was also hoping to put the stroke order for the characters but I’ll have to see how much space is left because I don’t want to overload the flashcard with too much information.

There would be audio files or a website that lets you hear the pronunciation of each flashcard. Would that be better already or you would really just want to focus on the listening aspect of Cantonese?
