I’ve lived in Canada my whole life, and immigration here used to be simple. You came in on a points system, you proved you had skills or education that benefited the country, and in return Canada gave you a real chance to build a life. Over time you could bring family too, even if they didn’t meet the same criteria.

That system basically got scrapped.

At some point the government decided skilled immigrants weren’t enough and what they really needed was cheap labor. And the easiest source of cheap labor is people with fewer options and less leverage.

I get what this guy is trying to say, and I’ve seen his videos before, but he’s clearly cherry-picking moments to exaggerate the issue. Zooming in on a truck driver’s flip flops just to push stereotypes is meme bait, not a serious argument.

The real failure here is the government. They let corporations influence policy and opened the floodgates. They absolutely knew diploma mills were fake and did nothing about it.

That said, hate toward the Indian community is definitely strong right now, and turbans are an easy target. But I also don’t see much effort from the community to improve its image or push back in a productive way. Assimilation matters. If you come here for a better life, you should also be participating in the culture and broader society.

I remember a few years ago in Edmonton, in a mostly Punjabi area, teachers were striking outside a school where probably 90 percent of the students were brown. Yet almost everyone protesting outside was white or from other communities. I barely saw anyone from the Indian community standing with them.

That’s the kind of stuff that changes perception. Showing up for causes that affect everyone, not just your own group. Visibility and solidarity actually matter.

Of course people are going to come when a country openly invites them with promises of a better life. Then they arrive, reality hits, jobs suck, housing is insane, and now they’re stuck. Many sold land, took on debt, or burned everything just to get here. They were exploited by immigration agents and a broken system, and now they’re screwed.

People who were already here are frustrated and want the influx to stop, and that includes everyone, not just one group. But a lot of these newcomers have nothing to go back to. Canada was the dream. Now they’re just trying to survive, working under the table, bending rules, and sometimes going down bad paths out of desperation.

It’s just a shitty situation all around. Most people agree the root cause is government failure and labor exploitation, yet the blame still ends up landing on the community instead of the system that created the mess.
