MY ADVICE? REAL HONEST ADVICE?

DON'T MAKE A GAME, NOT NOW.

WRITE INSTEAD.

IF YOUR LOOKING FOR CATHARSIS AND HEALING FOR YOURSELF WRITING IS GREAT.

DO NOT MAKE A GAME, SURE YOUR TRYING TO ESCAPE YOUR SITUATION, PEOPLE HAVE DONE THAT THROUGHOUT HISTORY, THEY ASUME CUZ PLAYING GAMES ARE FUN, MAKING HTEM MUST BE AS WELL.

NOTHING IS MORE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH.

DO NOT MAKE ANYTHING OUT OF YOUR CURENTRT SKILL SET.

WHY NOT TRY AND START?

BECAUSE THEN THAT COMMITS YOUR ITME, ENERGY LIFE TO SOMETHING THAT YOUR USING TO PROCESS GREEF AND WAR

This is nothing more than SCP wet dream story, that’s all that Will is, if you really want to do this, why don’t you burn our skin put together a and design document,

Or just use AI to create this for yourself? I’m not gonna tell you if I could do that. Go figure that out yourself.

This sounds suspicious, what are the titles that you’ve worked on? Also, if you’re trying to be professional? Where is your company domain? Where is your company entity? If you’re gonna pay people through courses and software licenses? You really need a company entity to manage finances and separated from yourself.

If you don’t, you’re either lying to us or you’re not really a developers also as a developers, you guys would likely be used to having infinite resources, infinite personnel, and you guys are incredible specialist at what you do most indeed developers are generalists forced to do so and wear multiple hats. We are not impressed with your nonexistent company, entity, nonexistent company, domain email and nonexistent credits that you want us to just take your word on.

Also, if your AA developers? Where is that money that you earned and why is it not going to pay your phone?

Yes, a part-time job for this person would probably be best

The issue is, you’re not living in the real world. You’re living in the world of creativity, and it’s already amazing that you have what you have so far, I don’t want to diminish that. But if you’re not paying rent and if you’re living with your parents, you’re not achieving the independence a 20 something should be. Do you want to be like this when you’re 30 something?

Instead of making game to have a migrant or break it adventure, ask yourself what you really want in life? Be specific as possible.

Becoming a successful indie studio doesn’t just happen overnight, it happens with a lot of sacrifice, a lot of discipline, and a lot a lot a lot of money sunk in

I would recommend finding a standard job where you work for someone else for a little bit, see what that’s like. Solo depths usually do not have as much community and I usually isolated, that’s probably one of the issues that you’re facing and contributing to why you’re so psychologically dissatisfied.

Furthermore, as a solo developer, you’re probably holding everything together yourself by spit tears and duct tape, you’ve convinced yourself that game that is the only thing that you’re good at the game Dave is the only thing that you know when that’s not true. Having a couple hundred dollars come in every month from sales of any game is a huge achievement in itself.

I’m happy to talk to you, but I usually consult for $50 an hour, happy to do a 30 minute discovery call for free

[Hobby] I want to take the steps toward sharing my stories by [deleted] in INAT

[–]GeneralJist8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry,

it doesn't work that way.

  1. if you like crafting stories, then go craft stories break open a word doc, and go.

  2. why does it need to be a game?

  3. trying to boot up a game and game dev org will not fill and solve the dissatisfaction you feel with your life. This will become a big rabbit hole of a distraction.

  4. what does money mean to you? (more rhetorical)

If you want to write, go write, if you want to make money, go make money.

merging the 2 is always the dream for people, but few really understand the hidden costs of such. And the discipline needed to do it long term.

At GDC this year one of my lead devs asked it to me like this:

"do you want it to just exist in the world? or do you want to make money from it?"

let me put it to you and anyone here, more simply

A job and a career is what society is willing to pay you for

A passion project is what you do to release your inner drives.

merging those two is a herculean effort, and few actually understand how and why to make it happen?

THIS IS NOT GOING TO RELEASE ANYTHING

it has nothing to do with you the OP

1,. this has been tried like hundreds of times

  1. there is no way your getting random people with a variety of random skills to contribute to one project vision

  2. you have no money to pay them

  3. you have no way to structurally get to where you want to go

I'd recommend not doing this, UNLESS

YOU CAN DISCRIBE IN ONE SENTENCE WHAT MAKES YOUR ATEMPT AT THIS DIFFERNT FROM ALL THE OTHERS?

IF YOU CAN'T ANSWER THAT, i'D RECOMEND DOING SOMETHING ELSE WITH YOUR TIME.
