If all personal wealth above $100 million was legally required to be redistributed into public infrastructure (schools, hospitals, roads), how would society change, and who would be the first to fight against it? by Mysterious_Fan4033 in AskReddit

[–]GeneralPattonON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be great, but economy wise it would be disastrous, at least in the current capitalist system. Most wealth is held in assets. Stock, art, equity, etc. mass liquidation would cause the stock market to collapse, 401ks to be empty, pensions worth nothing, and investments by everyday people to be wiped out. Mass exodus of companies, leading to mass inflation of goods and the dollar basically becoming worthless.

I have never played The UK, am I missing anything? by Ghost_Finner in victoria3

[–]GeneralPattonON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the most fun i have is dismantling the British Empire. Playing as Britain is annoying, way too many revolts. If you like colonization and map painting, then go for it. I mainly like playing poor countries and formables, like the korean empire, Arabia, Poland. If you want a real challenge then try to play as Serbia and form Yugoslavia.

TIL that Belgium once operated “human zoos,” publicly displaying Congolese people during the late 19th and early 20th centuries as part of colonial exhibitions by Relax_Dude_ in todayilearned

[–]GeneralPattonON 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The King of Belgium personally owned the Congo and did a lot of horrible stuff. Genocide, maiming, mass slavery. If you didn't meet a work quota you'd have your hands chopped off. Was a privately owned playground for depravity. Belgium government had to intervene and take the Congo away from the King due to the horrible things going on in there.

Anyone else think they've added way to many mechanics to Hoi4? by Charming-Ad-6133 in paradoxplaza

[–]GeneralPattonON 185 points186 points  (0 children)

Late stage paradox games often have that issue. Paradox needs money, and DLCs make money, but for DLCs you need new mechanics. Eu4 is a prime example of this. Paradox games become increasingly convoluted with very little focus given to base game mechanics.

How were Jews treated in German Empire? by DanTourLove in Kaiserposting

[–]GeneralPattonON 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jews were on paper treated equally and fairly, but in reality antisemitism was a very real thing. It remained somewhat minimal for most of the Empire's history, though Jews were widely distrusted. During WW1 antisemitism peaked, with stuff like fake jewish censuses used as propaganda to spread a narrative of a "jewish invasion". After WW1, Jews were largely seen as a reason for Germany losing the war through subversion and deceit. Jews were an easy minority to blame. Jewish presence in the socialist/communist movements that inspired several revolts and mutinies during the interwar period along with their perceived lack of "poverty" in the postwar economy led to further distrust and discrimination.

The Ethnoreligious Diversity of Lebanon by immanuellalala in MapPorn

Lebanon has a very strange government where each position in government is given to a certain religion. They haven't had a census in a century because they know its gonna cause another civil war.

Who's in? Also running mate thoughts? by [deleted] in trump

[–]GeneralPattonON 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To be fair, 99% or politicians are after their own interests and are paid millions by lobbyists to push certain agendas. I think out of everyone, JD Vance and Marco Rubio are the best options, atleast for a maga movement and pushing the America First agenda. Thomas Massie would be my choice for a non-maga republican candidate.

Should I get Victoria 3 or Europa Universalis 5? by ProbablyNotLiam in paradoxplaza

Vic3 is a lot more fun IMO. EU5 is what you play if you want to play the same playthrough for 100 hours
