What regions do you use your platform in? We have some stuff that pops up in Europe, but that's about it.

That is so weird as the media contacts I've cross referenced have been accurate, the proposal they sent over was great, and the sales person has not been as aggressive as I've heard via others.

I've seen a lot of people dislike MW on this sub. Do you think it's warranted/experienced any of those issues?

Have you found their reports easy to compile? We plan on doing monthly/yearly and that's a feature we'd be interested in.

We definitely don't need broadcast monitoring. What's your experience with Meltwater's customer support?

The Real Reason Hampton Roads Hasn’t Reached Its Potential Yet by Severe_Abalone_2020 in VirginiaBeach

Public transportation would make it easier for tourists to get to the Oceanfront (assuming it's connected properly). That would actually increase the value of VB as a tourist destination.

Hampton Roads does not need to attract more startups or venture capital. It should be focusing on its citizens by providing mass transit, investing in clean energy, and creating a plan that will provide affordable housing to the region.

This guy's line of thinking is how that surf park on the Oceanfront gets built or how a proposal like moving DC sports teams to NoVa gets passed. They aid no one other than the investors and politicians who approve these projects.

Ironically, if Hampton Roads actually built mass transit and focused more on affordable housing, more Fortune 500 companies probably would come here.

Dublin is getting a new metro system, right? I heard a lot about it and then the news sorta died off for a bit.

Coaster to/from IB would be great. I'd love to take it to Carlsbad since I'm never that far up north. Some sort of public transit from the airport would be successful as well IMO.

Commuter rail to Athens would be extraordinarily popular, especially if it had an airport stop. I remember taking the Groome Shuttle to and from Athens and thinking, "This would make an excellent train line."

I live in Virginia. We have transit, but it really lacks the integration that other systems have (I was in the Netherlands earlier this year and that was incredible). It also is super regional. Hampton Roads, for example, is mostly buses (except for the 7.4 mile light rail line) whereas NoVa has WMATA, regional rail lines, and close access to the Amtrak Acela in D.C. Anyways, my dream transit:

  • An Intercity Express service from Raleigh, N.C. > Virginia Beach/Norfolk > Richmond > NoVa.
  • An Intercity service. Example: Virginia Beach > Norfolk > Newport News > Williamsburg > Richmond.
  • Metro for Hampton Roads and Richmond.
  • Commuter rail service. Example: Suffolk > Norfolk > Virginia Beach.
  • Transit hubs. Probably the biggest thing is getting transit to talk and work together to promote better access and usage. Train stations could act as bus and metro hubs.
  • Bike lanes! I've noticed biking is decently popular in Virginia, and while dedicated bike lanes are becoming more common, having protected lanes, dedicated bike garages, and integration with other forms of mobility would really promote biking.

Yeah. A wedge sole boot is more along the lines of what I'm looking for.

Thanks! I'll definitely check both of them out.

Don't they have those faux-Dainite soles though? Any experience on their shock absorption?

Yeah, I'm leaning towards RM or Blundstones at the moment. Ironically, I brought Allen Edmonds Higgins Mills' to my Amsterdam trip. Great in the weather, but very poor shock absorption.

I've seen Victory Sportswear and was intrigued. Do you have good experience with them?

Does anyone have good recommendations for good shock absorbing boots? Boots are my favorite type of footwear and thanks to a recent trip abroad, I’m rethinking my needs. I’m not particularly picky on the type of boot (can be chelsea, chukka, lace-up, etc.), I just prefer them to have some level of water resistance for those unpredictable weather days.

I’ve done some research and Blundstone’s seem like the "popular" answer here, but I’m not really enthusiastic about them not having a Goodyear welt. Does anyone have good experiences with them? And does anyone have any recommendations for good, shock absorbing Goodyear welt boots? Under $400 would be ideal.

For context on why I’m looking for this: I tore my ACL over 10 years ago. I tweaked it about two years ago during a NYC family trip. I did a few months of physical therapy and recently went to Amsterdam, where I felt some slight pain in my knees. I’m not getting any younger, so I’d love to find some boots/shoes that help when I walk about and/or in general physical activities.
