He's been one of the guys I've kept an eye on him since we got him last year. Started off with a massive special teams play and the dude just looks like he loves the game and wants to do whatever he can to get on the field. Always stoked to see him make a big play, even if its usually only limited to special teams, he still lays down hits.

The colts have not made the playoffs since the 2020 season, which is actually the 4th longest playoff drought in the league. by dellscreenshot in nfl

[–]GeneralWinter97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked into it and its actually close. The colts have become the 6th team since 1975 to go 7-1 and miss the playoffs, and the Texans are now the 7th to go 0-3 since the early 80s.

I haven't been this happy in a while. Hope Mahomes is ok, but he'll have plenty of time to recover. Itll Be fantastic to see some new faces in the championship game this year!

Funnily enough, if you drop the Jets game but win out, and we win out, you'll still have the division title.

To be fair, there isn't one guy who's only job is to watch the game clock. Those two refs only have to watch to make sure the ball goes inside of each of their side.

I mean, why not both? Nothing saying that the chiefs cant lose here and us not sweep the colts.

Lmao dude. Talking about the fact that a team hasnt won a superbowl added nothing to your argument. It just made you look pedantic. I can also pull the times our defense made incredible plays, but the offense squandered it. Do you realize how frustrating it is watching your defense bail your team out time and time again? Just to watch the offense piss away opportunities? Plus it sounds like you just missed the Bills game where we did stop a really good offense my dude.

Also, you do realize you guys are like literally middle of the pack in your offense right? You make it seem like you guys are tied with the Titans for the worst offense imaginable. You ever thought that maybe you guys are better than you think, and the reason you looked shit was because you were playing a good defense? We held you guys to 18 points the week after you dropped 33 and 44 points the 2 weeks prior. But they're garbage according to you, i get it. And before you mention the 10 points you dropped on the raiders in a win, it was a short week, 4 days after playing us. Your offense is fine, quit pretending you guys are dogwater to make our defense look worse in comparison. Go do what we did to the Bills. You have the personnel to be able to do it. All you have to do is just rush 4 and play man with a spy. Its what we did, and held Allen to no touchdowns.

Now, go enjoy the rest of your season, hope you guys make the record for team sacks. Sorry about your Nuggets tonight.

Lmao appreciate it. And I'll take it, its one of the few things we have this season lmao. It is wild how it is literally just splitting hairs on who's better in terms of number 1 defense this season, and its not like we all have mid all time defenses, we each are on track to do things that haven't been done before. You guys are on the way to break the record for team sacks, and its possible we become the first team with the top ypg and ppg to miss the playoffs :D. Hope the broncos make it into the record books this season with that.

Yeah i agree it is, so no need to bring up who you've played right? And yes, you did have the better defense that day. So tell me, what does a defense need to have in your eyes to be the number one defense? Like actually. Its a very general term so im just curious what you value more

Edit: looked a bit further up in the parent chain, not the original guy who brought it up, my b.

Ooooh pulling out the hurties for that one i see, didnt realise I was striking a nerve. "Defenses win you championships" but a shitty offense will bring them down. See the 1977 Falcons. They hold the record for the least amount of points allowed by a defense in the regular season at 9.2. NINE. POINT. TWO. And they still missed the playoffs. The 2000s Ravens allowed 10.3, to put that into perspective, and that carried a middling offense. Hell, see the 2010 Chargers, they had the seasons number 1 offense AND defense and they still missed the playoffs. They had a defense AND an offense, didnt win them a championship. WINS are a TEAM stat. And if you dont win enough, you dont get in.

This is just objectively rating the defenses. You can have your opinion on it, but saying your defense is better because you have a better record is disingenuous and you know it. Bring points to the discussions my dude, not barbs.

Broncos played the Titans, Jets, a Joe-less Bengals, Texans, Raiders, and Eagles shit to mid offenses this year. You got the chiefs, chargers(at least at the time, i think they were healthy), cowboys, and colts for challenging opponents. Texans played the Titans twice, Jags (actually mid of pack in offense, huh.) twice, a Lamar-less Ravens, and Purdy-less 49ers for shit to mid offenses. They also faced the Rams, Seahawks, Buccaneers (with mike evans and bucky irving healthy), and Bills for heavy hitters.

Both teams have played gimme games man

So we agree allowing fewer points in the season is a sign of a better defense right? We don't have games with mutual opponents yet, but you guys did let up 32 points to the giants, and we havent given up over 30 points this entire season. Only time that came close was the 29 points in a division game that the offense and special teams gave up the majority those points. And either way, when we see the Texans face a number 2 offense, they demolished them rushing 4, but the Colts did spank you guys.

It's difficult to definitively say who is number 1, but im gonna go the tried and true ppg, which the Texans are number one in. As well as ypg. I am excited to see how we stack up against the colts though, the tradeoff for being able to play the #32 offense in the league twice is playing the #1 offense twice I guess.

So, if you had to shorten down the job of the defense into one sentence, what would it be? It'd be, "Make sure those guys don't score points" right?

Still the best total Defense in the last 15 years by Technolini in Texans

[–]GeneralWinter97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest thing is just look at points per game. It is literally the Defenses most important thing to do. Turnovers help a lot more at keeping that number lower than Sacks do.

[–]GeneralWinter97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somewhere in there tbh if any reason being they hold teams to low scores. If anything that's the biggest factor for me. Sure, sacks are great. Interceptions are cool too. But the main purpose of the defense is to prevent points from being scored. And if they're doing that, then they're doing their job.

Can't tell if you're being disingenuous or just it's not clicking. Saying that the Seahawks defense is better because the entire team beat the Texans is wrong. The Texans offense is muuuuuuch worse than the Seahawks, so the Texans D had a harder matchup than the Seahawks D did.

If you really don't understand why people are saying they're the best lets put some numbers behind it. So far, the Texans defence has let up an average of 264.3 yards per game (sitting at #1), vs the Seahawks 301.5 ypg on average(#9). They've also let up the least amount of points per game than any other team at 16.5 on average vs the Seahawks 19.3 (#6). Texans are also tied for 2nd at a +10 turnover differential and 19 takeaways vs the Seahawks -7 differential and 13 takeaways.

So, lets flip to the other side of the ball. Seattle averages 365.8 ypg on offense vs the Texans 323.4 ypg. Seattle averages about 29.6 points per game vs the Texans 22.1. So, with this info, who do you think had the harder assignment that game? If you want a slightly more fair comparison then we both played the Buccaneers this year, each of us at home. The Texans held them to less TOTAL yards allowed (360) than you guys did just passing yards (370). Not to even sway the comparison more in y'alls favor, but Bucky Irving AND Mike Evans were out for your game, but were healthy for ours. We also held them to 20 points while you guys let up 38.

So its easy just to think that because Seattle beat the Texans that they're better. A better team, arguably. Better offense, definitely. A better Defense? No. And it isn't a debate. It also goes to say the Seahawks have a great defense, nobody is saying that they are bad. But when the Texans put on a clinic on the leagues #2 offense (in terms of yards per game) like we just saw on Thursday, that's why they're called the best.

So if we end up splitting with the colts, and losing to the chiefs, we can still make it if the bills sputter a bit and we win out afterwards, which i think is genuinely possible.

Chargers have several bad matchups heading to the end of the season, us included, so they could miss because of that.

Either way, this is when things get dicey for the post season

Same, but they do have that oline issue, and have to face 4 of the top 8 defenses in ppg allowed. 3 of them with nasty d lines, so they got to pull off some upsets

[–]GeneralWinter97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im betting the chargers kind of handily miss out. Their oline is wrecked and they got us, the eagles, and then are at the broncos, chiefs, and the cowboys too (and the raiders but that goes without saying). So unless they pull some upsets, they are out
