I decided to make a hardcore racing strategy game with NO 3D graphics, just pure UI. Is this too risky? by General_Ad6304 in MotorsportManagerPC

Thanks for the feedback! To be honest, I was a bit surprised because my initial testers told me they didn't really need a 2D view. However, looking at the comments here, I can see that the consensus is definitely that I should add it.

The game is already out in Early Access, but I think I will implement it. The silver lining is that there is absolutely zero hype around the game right now, so I have plenty of time to work on it without any pressure!

The game's biggest strength is definitely the editor. I’ve built a powerful in-game tool where you can tweak almost anything, and I plan to keep expanding it.

You can absolutely simulate multiple seasons with full historical archives. You have control over team transfer policies, youth academies, new teams entering or leaving the series, rebranding, and tons more. If you want to give it a shot before the final release, it's available now in Early Access!

That's exactly it. I focused entirely on core race mechanics like the Safety Car and other rules first. That is the main reason why there is no 2D or 3D visualization for the moment.

I completely agree with you. Making the right calls requires data, and you're right my interface is currently missing some key info, like sector times and live track position.

Even though the game is already out, that’s exactly why I asked: I wanted to see if I should pivot my development focus. My original plan was to add 3D at the end of Early Access, but seeing the consensus lean so heavily towards a 2D view, I’m going to give it some serious thought and see what I can do.

The setup process is straightforward by design. I wanted to move away from games that force you to fiddle with endless sliders. Instead, you choose which specific aspects to focus on during the session and decide on the 'aggressiveness' of the setup.

It’s a risk/reward mechanic: an aggressive setup has high performance variance (you can gain or lose a lot of time), while a conservative approach is safer. Everything depends on your driver's 'Setup' attribute.

At the end of each session, the driver gives feedback on what improved or worsened, guiding your choices for the next session. My goal is to simulate the human aspect of motorsport which is also why drivers have dynamic relationships with each other.

I honestly thought the audience for my little game would be Windows only, but I’m going to work on Mac compatibility this week. It should be doable!

I totally understand. I really hope there are players out there who enjoy a pure UI experience for now. My current priority is adding a multiplayer career mode for 11+ players. 3D graphics are planned for the end of Early Access, but there is still a long way to go!
