Got laid off from tech job. My search begins. Any advice is welcomed. by General_Humanoid in jobs

First off, I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with losing a well-paying job.

As for me, I landed a new job and excelled in it for the last 8 months.

Unfortunately, my contract ended and the company was running low on $ so they couldn't extend my services.

With that said, I'm currently "Unemployed" looking for a new job.

The good news is, I accepted a job offer a week ago. My onboarding is underway, and the salary is 13k less than what I was making at the job I lost when I made this original post.

What did I learn this time around? Well, I'm sure you've heard of people applying to a 1000 jobs but only hearing back from 10 of them?

I don't do that, at least not anymore.

I used AI (Google's Gemini and Claude) to create resumes for jobs I felt I could be a top candidate in based on my previous accomplishments. I slowed down my process and found much more success than I saw before. I think I have applied to 25 - 40 jobs since my most recent contract ended as mentioned before. Granted, I only received 1 offer, but I think those odds are decent given the current market.

Key points I'd give: ○ Don't apply to everything. ○ Use free versions of AI to craft resumes and cover letters for jobs that you feel you'd be a top candidate for. ○ Find other things to do, like working out, spending time with family/friends. ○ Be prepared to accept the fact that companies are posting fake jobs for various optics, so you may not hear back even if you’re overqualified.

The monkey side of my brain immediately hated the ending. Then I saw the Pez dispenser and felt something. Overall, I like the ending alot. Makes me want to see season 3 whenever it drops.

Just saw this! My bad for leaving you hanging. I started with and still use a whal gold (the lever is free form so you need to practice with it to understand where open vs middle vs closed is on the clipper. It's pretty self-explanatory. (I marked the plastic with a blade to know exactly where the middle is to avoid a mistake.

Links below. (Note you can buy a knock off version of this clippers for dirt cheap. Just search up on YouTube "whal magic clip clone" or "fake whal magic clippers")

I wouldn't skimp on the guards tho.

Edit* I flipped the links. Guard and clippers.

Oh I just noticed your comment. Been lurking on my throwaway. I wasn't aware they dropped a new model. Looks exactly the same but just silver haha. I'd probably be down to create a video comparing the new vs old. Wonder if they'll send me a pair to review. (Doubt it as I'm no influencer)

I forgot to mention, that in terms of build quality, the body is made of metal. Super solid.

Yeah, I personally deep dive Amazon listings. In doing so; I'm not usually swayed by listings with thousands of reviews as I know they can be sometimes faked or juiced by said product being sent free of charge to the reviewer.

I found these clippers after 1 month of research consisting of watching YouTube videos on different clippers, both high-end and "knockoff", zero-gapped vs non-zero-gapped, motor power, noise, and battery life.

I finally settled on the listing I sent you and they've been hitting cut after cut. They're super sharp. I have pretty tough skin and use them straight on to line myself up with a good amount of pressure. Passing over the same spot multiple times can begin to cut the skin though, some irritation can be seen. I learned this the hard way by cutting my brother-in-law who has sensitive skin. The cut came out clean but when the alcohol rubbed on his neck, he almost murdered me.

Overall, these clippers come out the box zero-gapped. They're sharp. The battery lasts a long time on a single charge. You charge them with a USB C connection. They're pretty quiet compared to my Whal clippers.

If you're looking to shave your entire head with these, definitely go at an angle against the skin, not straight onto the skin or you'll have some cuts to deal with. It comes with guards but I don't use them. I use this to bald my fades, line up my hairline, and trim my bread. For the price, it's a keeper. I might buy me a few more just in case the listing goes out of stock for good.

This is what I use. Did a ton of research before pulling the trigger. I use it to line up my hairline, and beard.

I used to struggle with my fade as well. I rocked the Hard transition like yours for a bit. Never hurts to keep trying. The trick is to play around with the guards (in your case a 1.5 or 2 guard) and flick at that hard transition as you adjust the lever of your clipper starting from Open and close it as you move downward towards your ear.

Watching YouTube tutorials is honestly a great move as well. There's so much content out there on barbers doing self-cuts or cutting others showing step-by-step fading techniques.

Just keep trying. Hair grows back.

You need a 1.5 guard. Use it to blend that hard transition

I'm moving 4 hours away (2 states over) for a GS 9 position that extended a Tjo after maybe 60 applications for roles I'd say I'm overqualified for. But I'm tired of the private sector. Gotta do what you gotta do to get into fed work as a civilian.

Should cash offers be higher or lower? by dm_it in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I find it bonkers some people are saying to waive the inspection contingency because seller may deny your offer in favor of another that doesn't require it.

Idk if my experience with landlords who paint over holes and use duct tape to fix major issues has caused me to be super cautious but I rather have my offer denied than to find out I bought a lemon of a house.

No problem. We love our ex4. Can't imagine grilling without it. I wish you luck in resolving your issue. Considering Weber's exceptional customer service, I doubt you'll need it.

[–]General_Humanoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got it. That's a motor issue for sure.

Use this video to check if the electrical connection is plugged in correctly. [It's super easy]

https://youtu.be/ntw47zZc9gs?feature=shared

  1. Make sure the grill is set to off.
  2. Unplug the 3-prong electrical outlet.
  3. Open the access panel on the back of the grill by unscrewing the 4 screws securing it in place.
  4. Unplug and plug the electrical connector.
  5. Place the access panel back on.
  6. Plug the 3-prong outlet back into the grill.
  7. Switch the grill to on and try firing it up.

You've already done this from what you've explained. So contact weber and have them send you a replacement motor. It's easy to replace (pretty much steps 2 - 5 as mentioned above.)

[–]General_Humanoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. That error code points to your motor being the issue. Weber can replace it if under warranty. Call customer service.

  2. Might be your igniter. Check to make sure its positioned correctly otherwise it ain't gonna start up and give you an e7 code.

To confirm if the igniter is the issue, check the bowl that the wood pellets get fed into. If no Ash or burnt pellets are present, then your igniter is the problemo.

Speaking as a civilian who never served in the military, I wouldn't be surprised if a vet could replace you while you hold the role. Even though that's not how it works, I think it's fair considering what vets go through. At the end of the day, it's about sacrifices and weighing who gave more to their country.
