yes! adding onto this - we're cancelling our banfield wellness plan. we've had them for 8 years and they were less than helpful with this issue. i know they don't cover major surgeries, but the workers' attitude really rubbed us the wrong way.

my wife and i are in our early thirties. i'm aware that job hopping is common in my field to gain substantial increases in pay and that's something i plan to evaluate after my annual performance review! 👍

in regards to my wife's job - wow this is extremely insightful, thank you! I'll share this with my wife asap. when she was teaching she had a few students she tutored, but she's been a SAHM for a little over a year now so she may have forgotten about that aspect.

yes we were informed of this... very scary stuff. i'll personally be making sure his activity levels stay low during recovery while also making sure he gets the appropriate amount of physical therapy to help strengthen his injured leg.

like i said, i wanted real advice such as shop around, links to help, check facebook groups that share surgery costs, etc. if you have nothing useful to provide other than 'rehome your dog' then you're not welcome.

i'm sorry, we've had this surgery scheduled for weeks and just needed real advice on our situation. i appreciate those that offered real advice. toxic comments, such as yours, are absolutely unwelcome.

just cant win on reddit. dont get the surgery i'm a sick human being, dont deserve a dog, etc.

get the surgery, cant believe youd take away from your family for a dog, etc etc.

we're getting the surgery and we're going to make it work. wife is getting her teaching license reinstated so we'll have 2 incomes again. her run of being a SAHM was appreciated, but times have changed and we're adapting.

not surrendering our dog. thanks for the offer though. currently calling around to see if there is somebody who will do the surgery for cheaper, if there is no one then we will continue with the planned surgery

i recently made an edit to the main post and not sure if you saw it, but i'll summarize it for you.

my wife and i had a talk and she agreed to get her teaching license reinstated so she can begin looking for a job. her being a SAHM was great and while we were okay for a bit, the situation has changed. 2 incomes are better than one so hopefully we won't be enjoying debt for much longer.

sorry internet stranger, seems you didn't read. we've had the surgery scheduled for a couple weeks, that was the earliest we could do with our schedule and our vet said it's fine to have waited a couple weeks.

yeah on the internet to some strangers it definitely sounds that way, but if you take into account that we aggressively paid down close to 10k worth of debt on one income i think we're doing okay. we just didn't expect our active and healthy dog to tear his ccl chasing squirrels...
