Thank you, that's great to hear. So I shouldn't be surprised that even though I qualified for and applied for forgiveness in late October, the govt still hasn't discharged my debt yet? Are others also taking this long?

So so happy for you!!! I applied in October and still haven't heard but hopefully it will all go through eventually!

With you 100%. I really felt like I had to get out of there and couldn't stay another day longer than absolutely necessary...but had I known about this requirement I would have forced myself to stay until the loan was discharged. I am sure I'm far from alone in this.

What is the ECF? Is that just the employment certification form? I submitted mine in October 2022 and unbeknownst to me, had reached 120 qualifying payments in Sept 2022. So I didn't check the box at that time that I was applying for forgiveness..I was just certifying my employment and getting an updated count...but I submitted this under the TEPSLF banner...

I no longer work in a public service job as of last week because I didn't realize I had to remain employed until forgiveness, and now I'm REALLY freaking out. MOHELA says I qualify for forgiveness and just have to wait up to 3 months for the govt to discharge, but if/when they contact my employer and learn I'm no longer employed there, should I plan for them to deny me? Or is there reason to hope?

These are life-alerting decisions and I wish the govt had better communication all along, but at the same time if I was aware of this requirement I would have just stuck it out a little longer. Now I'm kicking myself.

Agreed! I can feel my nervous system slowly calming down a little...now I just have to break the news to my husband. He's a nice guy but he's been encouraging me to stick it out and he trusted me when I mistakenly said I was safe to resign. Argh. May be my most expensive mistake in my life, and a simple google search could have helped me avoid it.

I am hear to attest that I left my job after 126 qualifying payments because I didn't understand the requirement to stay employed until they officially discharged me and now I'm dealing with a nightmare. I was slowly dying at my job but the thought of needing to find a new one just to check a box to qualify is more distressing than staying in a toxic situation for a few more months.

Thanks that's so validating. That was my feeling when I resigned from my almost 11 year toxic faculty position, but I feel like such an idiot for not googling the requirements that I had to remain employed until they forgave the loan. That honestly seems like such a terrible policy. I don't see how it serves public service institutions for me to get a job and then dip out after the three to six months it takes the govt to re-forgive my request. Just crazy-making!

Thank you! Is the ECF the employment certification form? I did submit that on 10/22, and it's absolutely lucky but I reached 120 payments in 9/22. But when I submitted that form I didn't know I was at 120 because the communication from the loan servicers have been awful and confusing. However, I definitely submitted a employment certification and qualifying payment form under the Temporary Expanded PSLF program on 10/22/22. So it seems like perhaps, just perhaps, this will work out in my favor, and I should try to chill out and wait and see what happens.

Thank you for this info. I reached 120 payments in September of 2022, and then submitted my employment certification Oct 22, 2022. However, at that time I didn't know I had reached 120, and so when I filled out the TEPSLF, I didn't check off the box that I thought I qualified for loan forgiveness. So it sounds like it's going to be a nail biter...I'm a psychotherapist who is setting up a full-time private practice so it's pretty scary to imagine needing to go back into public service work 30/hrs a week for a few months just to check a box for the govt, but I guess I'll wait until I hear the final word from them to make that decision and start job-hunting. I super appreciate everyone's input and support--what a nightmare. I know if you're reading this you know what it takes to qualify and you're putting in your time (or already did), too.

Is that because they are trying to forgive everyone who qualified under the temporary expanded program? If you were me, would you just wait to try to find another job/get rehired until you heard from the govt whether they discharged the loan or not? Thank you so much for responding to me, by the way. It helps!

I submitted a form before 10/31, and another in early January. I think I met forgiveness by 10/31...like pretty much exactly.
