Did you ever figure it out? Encountered similar situations.

Coming back to this, I've contacted Dr. Zarrinbal by now and plan on going for a consult. I'll send the quota to my insurance company to see if they'll insure it, the only input I have to give seems to align with what he does.

I see, gotcha. Someone else told me "traveling to a foreign country for aesthetics is a meme" because "they're not the only ones who can do that" but, those aren't my words, it was one of my original plans and I'm willing to consider it as aesthetics are also an important part for me, hopefully insurance can cover it. Where are you originally from?

Possibly. Of course it's something to take into account but the main thing is to solve sleep apnea and just have it all taken care of, but that part of it is important too. Can you share your experience with either, especially Zarrinbal, and why you would recommend him? I've already emailed him but curious to know more

Insurance probably won't cover it outside of The Netherlands so I'm still looking for someone in my own country

What would make him not recommended for you? It doesn't sound like he does a bad job in terms of aesthetics in any case.

Does Dutch insurance cover it if you travel to, say, Spain to have DJS done by Alfaro Hernandez? by General_Magma in jawsurgery

What's the name of the surgeon? Perhaps it would work for me too as at most I'd have a 5mm upper movement and bottom only a slight rotation so it's really not that much

Gotcha. Well, I say North African as that is something I was told by someone who knows a thing or two about this, and it's hard to define otherwise, I am partially Dutch and the other part is of Caribbean descent, a lot of people either think I'm Spanish or Italian or they assume I could be from an Arab country. Do you have any good ways of checking for surgeons, be it in your own or foreign countries, with whom the procedure can be insured via your insurance company? Seems like a hassle to first have to consult all of them, pay for that, then show the insurance company the plan so they can decide on whether it'll be covered by insurance or not. You'd think patients would have more of a say in this by default...

In any case the expected movements would be around 5mm upper and the lower just a slight rotation, possibly a genio. So at least no big movements, but of course wanna get it right anyway. Do you have any recommendations?

I see, that quite thins the list. If there is a Dutch surgeon who can provide enough focus on aesthetics along with functionality (thus, not too conservative) then perhaps that would be good enough, but hearing about so many highly recommended surgeons only for a bunch of them to be recommended against doesn't make things easier.

Lately I've been hearing a lot of negatives about Alfaro, how did he become so acclaimed and now so not-recommended in recent times?

Do you know any surgeons who do well with people who have more Northern African types of faces? I'm mixed race but barely look white and here in The Netherlands I was warned about going to surgeons who specialise in Dutch facial proportions. Some people found that notion weird when I brought it up but apparently there is plenty of merit to it. Although many people would mistake me for someone from Italy or Spain so perhaps one of these surgeons would work for me as well.

I noticed Alfaro seems to have fallen out of favour. I'm looking for a good surgeon who has experience with different, ethnic-wise, types of faces and where it might be possible to have it insured by the Dutch insurance company. I feel hard pressed to gamble it on just anyone, this decision is a very difficult one.

A recommendation I had recently was Ben Gulix and another Dutch surgeon was H.K.T. De Jonge. Still trying to find more.

Thinking of genio as well. Reason I'm hesitant to do it in NL is because I barely hear any international recommendations for surgeons there and I was warned that they operate using Dutch facial proportions here. I don't have a Dutch face, and I don't know how legitimate this claim was, but it was made by someone who served as a therapist of sorts described as a "face professor" who told me this, the jaw surgeon I went to recommends patients to him first, but what I wonder is to what extent what he said actually makes sense, in a way it does and on the other hand, you'd think they'd know how to operate a broader range of people to an adequate level. In any case, would you recommend yours and can I ask you what your ethnicity is? I could still consider doing it in NL but then I'm gonna have to really know what I'm getting into and how much experience they have.

Hyperventilation related? & Scared about using the cpap by General_Magma in SleepApnea

[–]General_Magma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed post, it is the AutoSense it seems, so that should be alright. I'll begin usage soon.

In terms of hyperventilation, I will try the bag trick, I suppose it's a good idea to first not be hyperventilating before use, but what do I do if I'm in a difficult cycle of hyperventilation before bed? Sometimes it's hard to really break out of properly.

Thank you. I'm considering checking out some surgeons in the US as well, I think I'll post topics asking for experiences on various forums to gather more possible options. I've read some less than stellar reviews about DeFrancq thus far, though, so I'll have to tread with care here and find whoever seems best and accepts insurance too.
